Reliance on Foreign Markets: Multinationality and Performance (Paperback, 2014 ed.): Makoto Nakano, Bayanjargal Purevdorj Reliance on Foreign Markets: Multinationality and Performance (Paperback, 2014 ed.)
Makoto Nakano, Bayanjargal Purevdorj
R1,514 Discovery Miles 15 140 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This study examines the relationship between multinationality and the performance of Japanese manufacturing companies during the period 1999 2008 by using geographic segment information. Despite the enormous interest in and importance given to multinationality from the academic and business worlds, prior findings about the multinationality performance relationship are conflicting and inconsistent. The overall results of the present study show that multinationality has a positive impact both on accounting performance and on market-based performance. In additional tests, Japanese electric and electronic equipment companies reliance on the Asian market was found to have a negative impact on profitability and no significant impact on firm value, whereas reliance on other foreign markets such as the Americas and the EU had a positive impact on profitability and firm value. The multinationality performance relationship cannot be generalized and varies among geographic regions. This book contributes to both the multinationality performance literature and the geographic segment reporting literature by offering empirical evidence about Japanese manufacturing companies and comparing them with prior findings about American companies. Jochen Binder
R2,041 Discovery Miles 20 410 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Today, most firms employ online and offline distribution channels. Customers combine both channels for information search and purchase. However, researchers and practitioners are still lacking insight concerning the creation of additional customer value, in terms of a seamless purchase experience, by combining the online and offline channels. Also, it is unclear if these channel integration activities can actually help multichannel firms obtain a strategic advantage over their online pureplay competitors. Jochen Binder investigates how, why, and to what extent an integrated online channel increases customer value and leads to higher willingness to pay, customer loyalty and purchase intention in a firm's online and offline stores.

The Great East Japan Earthquake and Its Impact on German Firms - An Empirical Study (Paperback, 2014 ed.): Ralf Bebenroth The Great East Japan Earthquake and Its Impact on German Firms - An Empirical Study (Paperback, 2014 ed.)
Ralf Bebenroth
R1,437 Discovery Miles 14 370 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This publication sheds light on how Japan-based German firms dealt with the impact of the Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred in March 2011. To gather data, a questionnaire was developed and sent out in April 2012 to 244 German subsidiaries based in the Kanto area, mainly in Tokyo, with replies received from the top managers of 84 firms. In addition, the author conducted follow-up interviews with top managers of 14 of those firms in Tokyo to illuminate interesting aspects of the responses given in the questionnaires. It is shown that the overall impact on the performance of German firms was comparatively low. Those firms have now returned to normal operation and face relatively few disaster-related problems. However, firms with higher autonomy more frequently moved their offices either to the Kansai area, including Osaka, Kobe and Kyoto, or at least temporarily closed down. In retrospect, the interviews made clear that relocating or suspending operations was a costly mistake. In contrast to transaction cost theory, which states that subsidiaries should be given high autonomy in such cases of emergency, it would have been better for the headquarters offices to have communicated more intensively with the management of their subsidiaries. Open Evaluation - Integrating Users into the Selection of New Product Ideas (Paperback, 2013 ed.): Joerg Haller Open Evaluation - Integrating Users into the Selection of New Product Ideas (Paperback, 2013 ed.)
Joerg Haller
R1,932 Discovery Miles 19 320 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Selecting new product or service ideas that are worthwhile to be exploited has always been a major challenge to firms of all kinds. Recent developments, however, add a new facet to the evaluation challenge. Initiatives such as innovation contests, in which interested users may submit their ideas or solutions to firm relevant problems, frequently lead to several tens of thousands of submissions. Consequently, solutions are needed that help identifying the most promising ideas. The book "Open Evaluation" proposes a potential solution: integrating external stakeholders into the assessment of product and service ideas by means of IT, i.e. open evaluation. Based on both qualitative and quantitative research, the author examines design options, strategies, and the capacity of open evaluation to efficiently and effectively support decision-making for innovation.

Perspectives on Methodology in Consumer Research (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 1986): David Brinberg,... Perspectives on Methodology in Consumer Research (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 1986)
David Brinberg, Richard J. Lutz
R1,414 Discovery Miles 14 140 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Methodological advances in consumer behavior are increasing rapidly. We can characterize these advances by work in two logically separate but functionally related areas: (a) the philosophical underpinnings of our methods, and (b) the analytic strategies for examining the phenomena of interest in the field. An important aspect in communicating these advances is the demonstration of their use on focal problems in consumer behavior. Current research strategies and analytic techniques in the field of consumer research reflect the dominant logical empiricist epistemology. The develop ment of new epistemologies (e.g., scientific relativism, hypothetical realism), however, is likely to modify the dominant logical empiricist approach and is also likely to influence the analytic strategies used to conduct research. For instance, with the increased awareness of scientific relativism and hypothet ical realism, greater emphasis is anticipated for idiographic rather than nomo thetic designs, for observational rather than experimental designs, for process rather than static analyses, and for more sophisticated techniques for summariz ing findings across studies. The major theme underlying this volume is that conceptual, analytic, and sub stantive diversity are essential for consumer behavior research to advance. Col lectively, the chapters we present in this volume are a diverse set of perspectives for the study of consumer behavior. This volume is organized into three parts: (1) philosophical orientations toward consumer behavior research, (2) analytic strategies for consumer behavior research, and (3) applications of these orientations and strategies to current research areas."

Ethics in Consumer Choice - An Empirical Analysis based on the Example of Coffee (Paperback, 2013 ed.): Nina Langen Ethics in Consumer Choice - An Empirical Analysis based on the Example of Coffee (Paperback, 2013 ed.)
Nina Langen
R2,185 Discovery Miles 21 850 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This dissertation elaborates differences and similarities of forms of ethical behaviour in general and analyses whether German consumers differentiate between different types of ethical behaviour in particular. The thesis is characterised by its intensive combination of theoretical and empirical research. It furthermore contributes to the literature as the method triangulation applied in the different surveys reveals previously unknown relationships between different kinds of ethical behaviour, such as ethical consumption and charitable giving, as well as between different forms of ethical products. Choice experiment, latent class analysis, information display matrix and item-based attitude assessment allowed the comparison of stated and revealed preferences as well as an analysis of the relevance of ethical product features within the context of different product and process attributes. The dissertation provides insights into a research field which is becoming more and more relevant and improves the understanding of consumers assessment and the interdependencies of the possibilities of ethical behaviour. This allows the development of recommendations for consumer policy makers, business and NGOs concerned with the ethics of consumer choice as well as future research on ethical behaviour in general and ethical consumption in particular.
