Stating that memory loss is the result of a distressed brain and not a natural part of aging, a guide to rejuvenating the mind identifies brain toxins in everyday medicines, household products, and foods while recommending a program that incorporates dietary changes, supplements, and exercises. Reprint.
THIS little book is intended to help the student to study his own nature, so far as its intellectual part is concerned. If he masters the principles herein laid down, he will be in a fair way to cooperate with Nature in his own evolution, and to increase his mental stature far more rapidly than is possible while he remains ignorant of the conditions of his growth. The Introduction may offer some difficulties to the lay reader, and may perhaps be skipped by such at the first reading. It is necessary, however, as a foundation for those who would see the relation of the intellect to the other parts of their nature and to the outer world. And those who would fulfill the maxim "Know thyself" must not shrink from a little mental exertion, nor must expect mental food to drop ready-cooked from the sky into a lazily-opened mouth. If the booklet helps even a few earnest students, and clears some difficulties out of the way, its purpose will have been served.

It is an analytical view of some of the concepts and aspects of life according to recent scientific studies that changed my consideration of some of these concepts and led me to the discovery of these secrets. It is literary and social in the light of opinions, the great philosophers' theories, the writers' words, and the psychologists' ideas about concepts and explains them. I tried to understand and comprehend the wide knowledge base about how to behave better and find more wealth of realism and much happiness in life.

The book is comprised of inviting and intriguing questions that result from peer pressure, morality, bizarre circumstances and everyday situations that teens go through. I have used questions similar to these in the classroom as a psychology teacher and in-group and individual counseling sessions to generate thoughts, evaluate decision-making skills and to use as a guide to understanding teenager issues. I found the book to be very successful with helping students to talk about issues that they were experiencing. My professional background includes working as an Adolescent and Child Psychologist, Career Counselor and for the last seven years, I have worked in the public school system as a Psychology Teacher and School Counselor, which afforded me the opportunity to become knowledgeable of the issues that teenagers go through. From the above experience, I have designed questions that teens find humorous, authentic, and informative. Although the title of the book reads for teenager, I am quite confident that teachers, counselors, and parents would benefit from the book as well.

THE Universe is governed by Law - one great Law. Its manifestations are multiform, but viewed from the Ultimate there is but one Law. We are familiar with some of its manifestations, but are almost totally ignorant of certain others. Still we are learning a little more every day - the veil is being gradually lifted. We speak learnedly of the Law of Gravitation, but ignore that equally wonderful manifestation, THE LAW OF ATTRACTION IN THE THOUGHT WORLD. We are familiar with that wonderful manifestation of Law which draws and holds together the atoms of which matter is composed - we recognize the power of the law that attracts bodies to the earth, that holds the circling worlds in their places, but we close our eyes to the mighty law that draws to us the things we desire or fear, that makes or mars our lives. William Walker Atkinson was an attorney, merchant, publisher, and author, as well as an American pioneer of the New Thought movement. He is also known to have been the author of the pseudonymous works attributed to Theron Q. Dumont and Yogi Ramacharaka. In the last 30 years of his life he wrote more than 100 books.

For Lyn Traill, childhood was scarred by violence and abuse ranging from the emotional to the physical. But through it all, a shimmering flicker of hope stubbornly refused to be extinguished. Now she shares her story, told with honesty, pathos, and humor. Lyn's resilience in the face of abuse illustrates how life can change dramatically when we are open to becoming better observers. Her journey travels down some dark pathways before revealing a remarkable transformation. Here, she shares the strategies that have taken her from victim to victorious. A major turning point in her life appeared when she discovered ontology, the study of being-what it means to be human. Ontology focuses on the dynamic interrelationship among three areas of human existence: the language we use, which creates our reality; the emotions we live in, as our moods and emotions have a direct bearing on our actions; and the effects of both on our bodies. The role of the body in sustainable change has been greatly underrated. Are you seeking a way to untangle and improve your life? By clearing away the dead embers of old flames, you can ignite the sizzle you may have thought had disappeared. Lyn's victory is proof that it is never too late to start sizzling

This very small book is Ralph Waldo Emerson's essay, Self-Reliance, translated into modern English by me, Adam Khan. When I tell people about translating Emerson, the first thing people always ask me is, "Why would his work need to be 'translated?' After all, he lived a fairly short time ago and he spoke English." I've found when I share quotes from Emerson, it becomes clear why a translation might be helpful. For example, this is from the original Self-Reliance: "As soon as he has once acted or spoken with eclat he is a committed person, watched by the sympathy or the hatred of hundreds, whose affections must now enter into his account. There is no Lethe for this. Ah, that he could pass again into his neutral, godlike independence Who can thus lose all pledge and, having observed, observe again from the same unaffected, unbiased, unbribable, unaffrighted innocence, must always be formidable, must always engage the poet's and the man's regards." I enjoy Emerson's prose. But it took some time and I had to look up a few words before I really understood what he was saying in that paragraph. My little "translation" is just something that helps. Hopefully, when you're done, you can go back and read Emerson's original essay and understand it better.
If you are looking for guidance on how to craft a sentence or find a literary agent this book is not for you. Rather, here is a map for traveling the emotion-laden path that is the creative process. In "For Writer's Only," bestselling author and playwright, Sophy Burnham weaves the insights of some of the greatest writers with her own observations and experiences to provide inspiration and encouragement for writers everywhere. Burnham wrote this book for herself when she was in a particularly dark period, unable to get any of her work published. She wanted to know, how did the Great Masters, the immortals, do it? How did they combat discouragement, despair, rejection, dismissal, defeat? Did they write every day? What counsel and advice did they have to offer? In this book, you will discover the strange places authors have found they work best (Agatha Christie plotted her books in her bathtub, eating apples); the surprising diversions they use to escape the project they are working on (Anne Beattie used to vacuum rather than write); and why Faulkner famously asserted, "If a story is in you, it has got to come out." The truth is that the act of being creative is a difficult-even violent-process. Whether you read this book in one gulp from cover to cover, or simply pick it and read a few pages at those times when your are blocked, you will find yourself renewed, restored, re-heartened, and ready to race back to your own writing, your creative center. |
