Sometimes it seems that no matter what we do to try to jog our memories, they betray us at the worst possible moments. How many times have you had the exact word you needed on the tip of your tongue only to have it tease and evade your memory? Who hasn't written a list to remember and then forgotten the list Or perhaps you asked someone to help you remember and they forgot. Maybe you hid something from yourself in a special place you were sure to recall and spent weeks searching for the item because you forgot where you hid it. How many Easter eggs have been hidden, only to rot several days later because the person who hid the eggs forgot where they put them? What about that person you spent weeks secretly adoring, finally got the perfect chance to make their acquaintance, and then suffered a mental freeze? A well-rounded diet can benefit in many ways, and often the benefits to memory function are overlooked. Using herbs to improve memory have long been practiced not only by those in the United States, but in other countries as well. The American Indians, Orientals, Egyptians, and Greeks have all used herbs to enhance the mind. Spicy foods are said to increase the cognitive functions of your brain, and there are several spicy herbs available. The diet can affect the physical health, obviously. But if you aren't in good physical health, how can you also be in the best health mentally? The mind depends on the body to work at its best for the mind to work well. Just like the training for the body we need to have brain training. So where is the brain gym? There are games to help improve memory and physiological functioning of the brain. Learning new skills also helps the motor capacity of brain by challenging it. Proper blood flow and plenty of oxygen are also two factors that must not be overlooked. Now is the time to start training your brain and keeping it well nourished so you will have the best memory you can have. If you are looking for guidance on how to craft a sentence or find a literary agent this book is not for you. Rather, here is a map for traveling the emotion-laden path that is the creative process. In "For Writer's Only," bestselling author and playwright, Sophy Burnham weaves the insights of some of the greatest writers with her own observations and experiences to provide inspiration and encouragement for writers everywhere. Burnham wrote this book for herself when she was in a particularly dark period, unable to get any of her work published. She wanted to know, how did the Great Masters, the immortals, do it? How did they combat discouragement, despair, rejection, dismissal, defeat? Did they write every day? What counsel and advice did they have to offer? In this book, you will discover the strange places authors have found they work best (Agatha Christie plotted her books in her bathtub, eating apples); the surprising diversions they use to escape the project they are working on (Anne Beattie used to vacuum rather than write); and why Faulkner famously asserted, "If a story is in you, it has got to come out." The truth is that the act of being creative is a difficult-even violent-process. Whether you read this book in one gulp from cover to cover, or simply pick it and read a few pages at those times when your are blocked, you will find yourself renewed, restored, re-heartened, and ready to race back to your own writing, your creative center.
The Sword of the Spirit demonstrates a very easy method for memorizing scripture while enabling a deeper understanding of His Word. It will change you. You will establish a secure and solid foundation in Christ. You will become spiritually stronger as you face different challenges throughout life in your walk with the Lord. You will be set free from long-term sin, habits, and attitudes that have weighed you down and affected your overall Christian experience. You will develop a new way of thinking and discover that old ways are becoming a thing of the past. You will experience victory rather than defeat. You will move on to maturity more easily. A twenty-five-year-old has reached adulthood, but he is not as mature as the fifty-year-old. That twenty-five-year-old should not be thinking or acting like a child that is five, ten, or fifteen years old. Nothing of those ages should influence his maturity level, or he will have difficulty making it in life-and he will know stress very well. The same applies to us as Christians if we are not actively forsaking old ways and developing new ways. Your arsenal for Christian maturity includes forgiveness, prayer, faith, resisting temptation, peace, enduring trials, renewing the mind, going forward, putting sin aside, and allowing God to live through you-just to name a few. They are the very essential basics. The scriptures chosen for memory will set you free from unnecessary burdens of self that hinder your moving forward in victory. As you memorize and meditate on these scriptures, you will be set free from emotional baggage that guide your feelings, thoughts, reactions and decisions. You are renewing your mind and you are being transformed. It is what takes place in you by the working of the Holy Spirit, God Himself, as you memorize His Word-a genuine "new you"

For Lyn Traill, childhood was scarred by violence and abuse ranging from the emotional to the physical. But through it all, a shimmering flicker of hope stubbornly refused to be extinguished. Now she shares her story, told with honesty, pathos, and humor. Lyn's resilience in the face of abuse illustrates how life can change dramatically when we are open to becoming better observers. Her journey travels down some dark pathways before revealing a remarkable transformation. Here, she shares the strategies that have taken her from victim to victorious. A major turning point in her life appeared when she discovered ontology, the study of being-what it means to be human. Ontology focuses on the dynamic interrelationship among three areas of human existence: the language we use, which creates our reality; the emotions we live in, as our moods and emotions have a direct bearing on our actions; and the effects of both on our bodies. The role of the body in sustainable change has been greatly underrated. Are you seeking a way to untangle and improve your life? By clearing away the dead embers of old flames, you can ignite the sizzle you may have thought had disappeared. Lyn's victory is proof that it is never too late to start sizzling
THE Universe is governed by Law - one great Law. Its manifestations are multiform, but viewed from the Ultimate there is but one Law. We are familiar with some of its manifestations, but are almost totally ignorant of certain others. Still we are learning a little more every day - the veil is being gradually lifted. We speak learnedly of the Law of Gravitation, but ignore that equally wonderful manifestation, THE LAW OF ATTRACTION IN THE THOUGHT WORLD. We are familiar with that wonderful manifestation of Law which draws and holds together the atoms of which matter is composed - we recognize the power of the law that attracts bodies to the earth, that holds the circling worlds in their places, but we close our eyes to the mighty law that draws to us the things we desire or fear, that makes or mars our lives. William Walker Atkinson was an attorney, merchant, publisher, and author, as well as an American pioneer of the New Thought movement. He is also known to have been the author of the pseudonymous works attributed to Theron Q. Dumont and Yogi Ramacharaka. In the last 30 years of his life he wrote more than 100 books.

This very small book is Ralph Waldo Emerson's essay, Self-Reliance, translated into modern English by me, Adam Khan. When I tell people about translating Emerson, the first thing people always ask me is, "Why would his work need to be 'translated?' After all, he lived a fairly short time ago and he spoke English." I've found when I share quotes from Emerson, it becomes clear why a translation might be helpful. For example, this is from the original Self-Reliance: "As soon as he has once acted or spoken with eclat he is a committed person, watched by the sympathy or the hatred of hundreds, whose affections must now enter into his account. There is no Lethe for this. Ah, that he could pass again into his neutral, godlike independence Who can thus lose all pledge and, having observed, observe again from the same unaffected, unbiased, unbribable, unaffrighted innocence, must always be formidable, must always engage the poet's and the man's regards." I enjoy Emerson's prose. But it took some time and I had to look up a few words before I really understood what he was saying in that paragraph. My little "translation" is just something that helps. Hopefully, when you're done, you can go back and read Emerson's original essay and understand it better.

"The First Three Parts of this book, Passion, Aspiration, and Temptation, represent the common human life, with its passion, pathos, and tragedy. The last three parts, Transcendence, Beatitude, and Peace, represents the Divine Life-calm, wise and beautiful-of the sage and Savior. The middle part, Transmutation, is the transitional stage between the two; it is the alchemic process linking the divine with the human life. Discipline, denial, and renunciation do not constitute the Divine State; they are only the means by which it is attained. The Divine Life is established in that Perfect Knowledge which bestows Perfect Peace." James Allen was a British philosophical writer known for his inspirational books and poetry and as a pioneer of self-help movement. Allen's practical philosophy for successful living has awakened millions to the discovery that "they themselves are makers of themselves." Allen insists that it is within the power of each person to form his own character and create his own happiness.

When I was kid I can remember numerous times being told that I needed to change my behavior or I would find myself in prison or possibly dead. The only challenge that I had was no one could provide me with guidance or the how to. At the age of 12 I learned self hypnosis from an audio tape and at the age of 16 I read my first psychology text book. I joined numerous churches and inquired into numerous religions. I search from one end of the United States to the other looking for answers but all I found were doctors and counselors that would tell me what was wrong with me but not one person could tell me how to change the direction of my life. I had been given a diagnosis of bipolar, ADD/ADHD, depression, anxiety, these were to name a few. Eventually, I turned to self medicating and before long I was told I was an addict. I gave up. Then one day I had an epiphany. What I had been looking for was right in front of me. I had been so focused on the negativity in my life I was overlooking the gifts that were being bestowed upon me. Now you have the opportunity to discover what I have discovered throughout my life long search for answers. As you open the pages and begin to read open your mind and your heart and enjoy the journey. I once was told that it isn't the destination that's important it's the journey we learn from. |
