This insightful biography provides a closer look at one of the
entertainment world's biggest stars, with a focus on what got her
to the top-and what has kept her there. Dolly Parton has an
enviable record of accomplishment as a performer, songwriter,
recording artist, businesswoman, and philanthropist. She has
triumphed on Broadway, in the movies, and even with her own theme
park. The Words and Music of Dolly Parton probes its subject's
unique singing voice and prolific abilities as a songwriter, as
well as her impressive business savvy, fearless attitude, and an
imagination as towering as the Smoky Mountains among which she grew
up. This book focuses on Parton's most important albums and
songwriting style, examining her career from her early days in the
east Tennessee mountains through her national television exposure
on the Porter Wagoner Show, her crossover success in pop music, and
her return to her acoustic/bluegrass roots. In addition, it
explores Parton's story songs and characters, the spirituality
reflected in her music, and her important collaborations with other
artists. Rare photographs of Parton's early career from legendary
photographer Les Leverett, retired staff photographer for the Grand
Ole Opry Interviews with many of Parton's collaborators over the
years, including producers, engineers, and other artists A
discography of Dolly Parton's albums and hit songs and a list of
her awards
Learning The Tenor Clef by Alan Gout and Pat Legg is the long

studies and pieces in all the keys known by cellists at around

introduced including moving from the lower to the higher register,
learning to read and play on the transitional part of the cello and
reading tenor clef across strings
So this is permanence, edited by Jon Savage with a foreword by
Deborah Curtis, presents the intensely personal writings of one of
the most enigmatic and influential songwriters and performers of
the late twentieth century, Joy Division's Ian Curtis. The songs of
Joy Division, infused with the energy of punk but steeped in a
resigned longing, were born of Manchester in the late seventies - a
once flourishing industrial city in decline. They were the songs
too of Ian Curtis's inner tragedies, as he battled depression,
epilepsy and debilitating stage fright. Ian Curtis committed
suicide in 1980, on the eve of the band's first American tour.
Interspersed with the lyrics are previously unpublished facsimile
pages of Ian's notebooks, which throw his highly emotive lyrics
into fascinating relief and cast light on the creative process of
this singularly poetic songwriter.

Ravel composed the original piano version of this piece in 1899
after resuming his studies at the Paris Conservatory. It was
published the next year and became an overnight success. Despite
some self-criticism of his youthful work for being "poor in form,"
Ravel thought well enough of it to prepare an orchestral version in
late 1910, which was given its premiere under the baton of Henry
Wood at the Manchester Gentlemen's Concerts on 27 February 1911.
This newly-engraved critical edition will be appreciated by Ravel
fans, students, and conductors everywhere.
Vinyl: A History of the Analogue Record is the first in-depth study
of the vinyl record. Richard Osborne traces the evolution of the
recording format from its roots in the first sound recording
experiments to its survival in the world of digital technologies.
This book addresses the record's relationship with music: the
analogue record was shaped by, and helped to shape, the music of
the twentieth century. It also looks at the cult of vinyl records.
Why are users so passionate about this format? Why has it become
the subject of artworks and advertisements? Why are vinyl records
still being produced? This book explores its subject using a
distinctive approach: the author takes the vinyl record apart and
historicizes its construction. Each chapter explores a different
element: the groove, the disc shape, the label, vinyl itself, the
album, the single, the b-side and the 12" single, and the sleeve.
By anatomizing vinyl in this manner, the author shines new light on
its impact and appeal.
The so-called Cancionero de la Sablonara is a highly selective
manuscript collection of seventy-five Spanish polyphonic art-songs,
composed primarily at the Spanish Court during the first quarter of
the seventeenth century. Named after its scribe and compiler,
Claudio de Sablonara (the chief copyist of the Spanish Royal
Chapel), it constitutes one of the relatively few extant relics of
the court's prodigious musical repertoire. The majority of the
songs, comprising genuine Spanish genres and set for two, three and
four voices, were written by leading composers of the time. The
high quality of the musical settings is matched by the poetry, with
texts by prominent literary figures of the Golden Age. This
long-awaited critical edition of the Cancionero de la Sablonara
offers a complete transcription of both the poetry and the music,
whilst introductory chapters review the scholarship and research to
date on the manuscript. The notes and introduction to this volume
are in English. Professor JUDITH ETZION is chair of the Musicology
Department, Tel Aviv University.

for SATBarB unaccompanied The shades of Finzi and Vaughan Williams
are strongly present in these three delightful unaccompanied choral
settings, and yet the style and execution are wholly Rutter's own.
O mistress mine is a jaunty jazz waltz, Be not afeard casts a
dreamy spell with dusky sonorities and magical harmonies, and Sigh
no more, ladies brings the set to a cheerfully melodious and
high-spirited conclusion.
for SATB & piano/orchestra Here John Rutter uses oriental
musical influences to create a highly original arrangement of the
popular Christmas carol. The verses are dark and mysterious in
character, with warmth and joy radiating from the choruses. This
setting can also be found in Rutter's Christmas collection Joy to
the World. Scores and parts for the orchestral accompaniment are
available on sale.
