* Skills-based: most books on burnout or compassion fatigue are
largely signs, symptoms, and "self-care". This book defines
concrete, acquirable skills. There is significant clamoring in the
field for "what we do about it." * Evidence-Informed: The guidance
offered in this book derives from an evidence-base. *
Trauma-Informed: The foundation for trauma-informed treatment is
the emotion regulation skills of the provider. The treatment
professional must be emotionally regulated to effectively implement
any trauma treatment--and a commitment to care for oneself can keep
professionals in the field for a career.

This book takes up the challenge of examining women's
understandings of eating disorders and child sexual abuse away from
a framework focused on pathology. The central argument is that
women's distress is an enactment of their engagement with certain
discourses and practices, rather than a reaction triggered by child
sexual abuse. Guided by a contemporary feminist framework and
Mikhail Bakhtin's sociological linguistics, to substantiate the
argument, women's own poetry and drawings are used as evidence to
develop, support and supplement research findings. The book
establishes that an eating disorder is 'an understandable response'
to sexual trauma and shifts the focus away from 'a damaged
personality'. Even more importantly, it demonstrates that women
with eating disorders are using their bodies as a form of
resistance to express silenced traumas that remain in the silenced
female body. This is an active way of making sense of experiences
of child sexual abuse.

Whether they are in developed or developing nations, all women are
susceptible to dying from complications in childbirth. While some
of these complications are unavoidable, many develop during
pregnancy and can be prevented or, when caught in time, treated.
These difficulties are often a result of inaccessibility to care,
inadequate health services, poor prenatal screening, and uninformed
mothers, among others, that in many cases are a direct consequence
of the mother's geographical location and economic status.
Innovations in Global Maternal Health: Improving Prenatal and
Postnatal Care Practices explores new techniques, tools, and
solutions that can be used in a global capacity to support women
during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, regardless
of their wealth or location. Highlighting a range of topics such as
maternal care models, breastfeeding, and social media and internet
health forums, this publication is an ideal reference source for
world health organizations, obstetricians, midwives, lactation
consultants, doctors, nurses, hospital staff, directors,
counselors, therapists, academicians, and researchers interested in
the latest practices currently in use that can combat maternal
mortality and morbidity and lead to healthier women and newborns.
