Alexandru Popa
R949 Discovery Miles 9 490 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

"Quantum and Classical Connections in Modeling Atomic, Molecular and Electrodynamic Systems "is intended for scientists and graduate students interested in the foundations of quantum mechanics and applied scientists interested in accurate atomic and molecular models. This is a reference to those working in the new field of relativistic optics, in topics related to relativistic interactions between very intense laser beams and particles, and is based on 30 years of research. The novelty of this work consists of accurate connections between the properties of quantum equations and corresponding classical equations used to calculate the energetic values and the symmetry properties of atomic, molecular and electrodynamical systems, as well as offering applications using methods for calculating the symmetry properties and the energetic values of systems and the calculation of properties of high harmonics in interactions between very intense electromagnetic fields and electrons.
Features detailed explanations of the theories of atomic and molecular systems, as well as wave properties of stationary atomic and molecular systemsProvides periodic solutions of classical equations, semi-classical methods, and theories of systems composed of very intense electromagnetic fields and particles Offers models and methods based on 30 years of research

Renormalized Perturbation Theory And Its Optimization By The Principle Of Minimal Sensitivity (Hardcover): P M Stevenson Renormalized Perturbation Theory And Its Optimization By The Principle Of Minimal Sensitivity (Hardcover)
P M Stevenson
R2,381 Discovery Miles 23 810 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

The results of renormalized perturbation theory, in QCD and other quantum field theories, are ambiguous at any finite order, due to renormalization-scheme dependence. The perturbative results depend upon extraneous scheme variables, including the renormalization scale, that the exact result cannot depend on. Such 'non-invariant approximations' occur in many other areas of physics, too. The sensible strategy is to find where the approximant is stationary under small variations of the extraneous variables. This general principle is explained and illustrated with various examples. Also dimensional transmutation, RG equations, the essence of renormalization and the origin of its ambiguities are explained in simple terms, assuming little or no background in quantum field theory. The minimal-sensitivity approach leads to 'optimized perturbation theory,' which is developed in detail. Applications to Re+e-, the infrared limit, and to the optimization of factorized quantities, are also discussed thoroughly.

Fault Location on Transmission and Distribution Lines - Principles and Applications (Hardcover): S. Das Fault Location on Transmission and Distribution Lines - Principles and Applications (Hardcover)
S. Das
R2,667 Discovery Miles 26 670 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book provides readers with up-to-date coverage of fault location algorithms in transmission and distribution networks. The algorithms will help readers track down the exact location of a fault in the shortest possible time. Furthermore, voltage and current waveforms recorded by digital relays, digital fault recorders, and other intelligent electronic devices contain a wealth of information. Knowledge gained from analysing the fault data can help system operators understand what happened, why it happened and how it can be prevented from happening again. The book will help readers convert such raw data into useful information and improve power system performance and reliability.

Efficient Unconventional Models Of Multi-component Magnetic Hysteresis (Hardcover): Amr Amin Mohamed Adly Efficient Unconventional Models Of Multi-component Magnetic Hysteresis (Hardcover)
Amr Amin Mohamed Adly
R1,430 Discovery Miles 14 300 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This unique compendium deals with modeling magnetic media exhibiting hysteresis using computationally efficient phenomenological models that may be utilized in a wide spectrum of both coupled and non-coupled situations. The main factors affecting the behavior of media exhibiting hysteresis - such as magnetic field, mechanical stress and temperature - are dealt with from a higher-level perspective. The volume offers a brief review of well-established definitions of the hysteresis phenomena and widely utilized models. It then presents in its separate chapters a set of innovative efficient multi-component hysteresis models, some of which involves novel operators and/or neural network activation functions as primitive building blocks. Identification methodologies, simulations and experimental verifications for the presented models are also prominently highlighted. This useful reference text offers a great resource material for academics, professionals, researchers and graduate students in electrical and electronic engineering, superconductivity, magnetic materials and mechanical engineering.

Special Topics In Accelerator Physics (Hardcover): Alexander Wu Chao Special Topics In Accelerator Physics (Hardcover)
Alexander Wu Chao
R4,493 Discovery Miles 44 930 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Accelerators as research and industrial tools are increasingly becoming a key driver of the advances of a modern society. As accelerators and its science evolved to meet the ever-increasing needs of society, the field of accelerator physics has evolved and deepened over the past few decades, and many of its branches developed into special topics of research by their own rights. It is appropriate at this time to start accumulating this hard-earned expertise by the accelerator physics community. With this view, a selection of these special topics is presented in this volume, Special Topics in Accelerator Physics. Although not exhaustive, they are chosen to present accelerator physics as a diversified and exciting field and written based on the practicing and teaching experiences of the author accumulated over the past decades. The book is presented as an advanced textbook. The material on each topic has been intended to be self-contained. The reader is assumed to have a basic knowledge of accelerator physics to put the material in some context.

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is an analytical tool used by chemists and physicists to study the structure and dynamics of molecules. In recent years, no other technique has gained such significance as NMR spectroscopy. It is used in all branches of science in which precise structural determination is required and in which the nature of interactions and reactions in solution is being studied. "Annual Reports on NMR Spectroscopy" has established itself as a premier means for the specialist and non-specialist alike to become familiar with new techniques and applications of NMR spectroscopy.

This volume of "Annual Reports on NMR Spectroscopy" focuses on the analytical tool used by chemists and physicists and includes topics such asProfiling of Food Samples, Recent Advances in Solution NMR Studies and Magic Angle Spinning NMR Studies of Protein Assemblies"

Is It the 'Same' Result - Replication in Physics (Hardcover): Allan Franklin Is It the 'Same' Result - Replication in Physics (Hardcover)
Allan Franklin
R2,064 Discovery Miles 20 640 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Replication, the independent confirmation of experimental results and conclusions, is regarded as the "gold standard" in science. This book examines the question of successful or failed replications and demonstrates that that question is not always easy to answer. It presents clear examples of successful replications, the discoveries of the Higgs boson and of gravity waves. Failed replications include early experiments on the Fifth Force, a proposed modification of Newton's Law of universal gravitation, and the measurements of "G," the constant in that law. Other case studies illustrate some of the difficulties and complexities in deciding whether a replication is successful or failed. It also discusses how that question has been answered. These studies include the "discovery" of the pentaquark in the early 2000s and the continuing search for neutrinoless double beta decay. It argues that although successful replication is the goal of scientific experimentation, it is not always easily achieved.
