Pigment info: PBk7Series 14oz (118ml) squeeze bottleAkua Liquid Pigment was originally developed for monotype printmaking, but it can also used for other techniques such as Japanese woodcut and painting on paper. The Liquid Pigment contains no chalk, fillers dryers or polymers and the addition of honey give the colours a brilliant, vibrant appearance that dry with a luminous finish. It has a slow drying formula which will allow for an extended working time to create images on a monotype plate. It is thick in consistency which is perfect for both additive and reductive monotype techniques. It can be mixed into Akua Intaglio Inks or the Transparent Base to create new colours, it can also be printed on top or beneath Akua Intaglio inks for multi-plate overlays. All colours are lightfast. The Liquid Pigment is rolled directly onto the plate rather than transferring the ink from a separate slab, saving time and money. The pigment can easily be modified to adjust the sheen, thickness and transparency. It prints beautifully on dry paper as it stays wet on the plate, eliminating the need for prior soaking, blotting, flattening and drying. Where the paper will not stretch or shrink, this means that your print will be registered perfectly. The pigment cleans up easily with just water and a rag. As there are no suspension agents added, pigment can settle at the bottom of the bottle. There is a mixing ball enclosed in the squeeze bottle to allow you to easily mix the pigment.
Speedball’s Fabric Block Printing Inks are an oil-based range of bold, permanent colours designed to be with washed up with soap and water. They are an opaque ink with excellent coverage and by adding Speedball’s Fabric Block Printing Transparent Extender you can create transparent colours while maintain the inks viscosity. These inks are designed to print onto smooth fabrics that do not possess a heavy texture or stretch such as cotton, linen, broadcloth or denim. Nylon and canvas are not recommended. Your printing block can be lino, wood or any similar surface and soft rubber rollers or brayers are ideally suited for inking the block.Speedball’s Fabric Block Printing Inks will dry to the touch overnight depending on your climate and they do not require any setting with heat. It is recommended you wait 4-7 days before washing your fabrics after printing.
Made from soft, natural latex gum rubber with a precision-ground finish, Speedball Soft Rubber Brayers are ideal for use with linoleum, vinyl, or wood blocks. Â The flexibility of the 40/42 durometer rubber ensures for even ink distribution especially over uneven surfaces. The roller can be popped out of the plastic handle to allow for easier cleaning. Designed for use with water based and oil based inks. Care should be taken with the rubber rollers when cleaning and storing. Â Lightly dust with talc to avoid the surface becoming sticky and ensure the surface of the roller is not pressing against anything when put away. For a replacement Roller / Brayer, click here.

This combination tool is designed to be used in intaglio printmaking processes. Both tools will reduce the ability of an area of a plate to hold ink.One end is a blunt burnishing tool, used for smoothing the face of the metal plate in order to soften engraved lines and remove burrs. The convex stem of the tool, just below the tip (rather than the tip itself) is used for this purpose, in a polishing motion. The other tool is a scraper, used to lower the plate surface and scrape away burrs.
For printmakers interested in non-toxic printmaking, Caligo are pleased to offer a new and innovative range of oil-based inks that can be washed away with liquid soap and water, without the need for harmful and often more expensive solvents. They call these inks ‘safe wash’ and they are available for both relief and intaglio printing.Caligo Safe Wash Etching inks are suitable for all types of intaglio printing, for example, etching, aquatint, line engraving etc. This range does not contain any driers. If you want faster drying rates, you can add a small amount of cobalt or manganese driers.
Available in A4 or A3 sizes.Bockingford Inkjet is the answer for artists who wish to create their own limited edition prints. Fantastic prints can be reproduced to look like the original, when using a good inkjet printer. Artists familiar with the original Bockingford watercolour paper will recognise the same beautiful surface on Bockingford Inkjet. It is made in the same time-honoured fashion as Bockingford watercolour paper using a traditional mould machine.Unlike other artist inkjet papers, Bockingford Inkjet has an ink receptive coating on both sides of the sheet, allowing limited edition books and portfolios to be created.
Akua Intaglio Ink was originally formulated for intaglio printmaking, however this ink can also be applied with a brayer for relief printmaking, monotype, and collagraphs; and it will print from any plastic, wood, linoleum or metal plate. It is a soy based ink which is made with high quality lightfast pigments. The inks have a thick consistency with minimal water content and contain no toxic driers - this means a longer working time. The ink cleans up easily with a dry rag followed by soap and water. Inexpensive liquid dish detergent can be used. Never use toxic solvents. Prints can be re-soaked immediately after printing if handled carefully. Once the print is dry, Akua Intaglio is permanent. Ink will never skin or harden in the jar or the ink slab, meaning minimal ink is wasted. Wiping the plate with Akua Intaglio is easier than wiping oil-based ink, meaning you need to spend less time cleaning up.
Twisted steel double-ended dry point scribe, used for adding detail or tone to metal plates for intaglio printmaking processes. The line is created as the dry point or needle is dragged or drawn over the plate. If this tool is used to add detail or tone directly to the metal plate (a technique known as 'drypoint'), it will inscribe a line with a slight burr, which will print a blurred, indistinct line. This effect can be controlled by manipulating the angle at which the point meets the plate.
Lascaux Stop-out resist has been specially designed as part of the acrylic-resist etching system. This coloured resist is fluid and can be easily painted onto plates to create images, make corrections to plates or used for stopping-out. It can be drawn into with etching tools when dry. Lascaux Stop-out resist is water-soluble, ready to use, non-toxic and suitable for use on copper, brass, zinc, steel and aluminium. The resist is highly acid-resistant and durable on unbitten or previously etched plates (e.g. aquatint, deep open bite). It is compatible with the other Lascaux resists and photopolymer resists such as Photec. Lascaux Stop-out resist may also be used to create a variety of effects on collagraph plates.
Pfeil Sharpenin Stones are the ideal tools to sharpen your lino cutting equipment and, in turn, to achieve excellent quality cut marks.
Stippling Tools are primarily used by copper engravers, but can also be used on wood. Copper engravers use them to create dots on the surface of metal plates, which will hold ink during the printing process. The dots thus show up as black in the final print. Stippling Tools will often raise a slight burr on the metal plate, around the edge of the stipple, which can be scraped away. Wood engravers use Stippling Tools to create a carpet of small round dimples on the surface of woodblocks. As woodblocks are inked with a roller, these recessed dimples do not receive ink, and therefore show up white in the final print. This tool was made from high carbon tool steel in the United States by E.C. Lyons. It is supplied factory-sharp, but it has not been honed to a fine edge.
Caligo Safe Wash Relief Inks are suitable for all types of relief printing, for example, linocut, woodcut, wood engraving, photopolymer and letterpress. Safe Wash Inks are oil-based, this means you can still use many of the modifiers used with traditional inks. For example you can use Magnesium Carbonate / Talc, Cobalt / Manganese Driers, or Caligo Wiping Compound / Tack Reducer etc.

This combination tool has a twisted shank of high carbon tool steel, and is tipped with a different tool at each end: a burnisher and a needle point scribe.Burnishers are used to flatten a section of a plate in order to remove engraved or etched patterns and lines. This 'erases' the marks on this area. Do not use the end of the tool; use the 'belly' of the tool, just below the tip.The other end of the tool has a needle point scribe. If this tool is used to add detail or tone directly to the metal plate (a technique known as 'drypoint'), it will inscribe a line with a slight burr, which will print a blurred, indistinct line. This effect can be controlled by manipulating the angle at which the point meets the plate. This end of the tool is designed to be resharpened periodically. This tool is manufactured by EC Lyons.
Well engineered portable presses from Italy with solid steel rollers and 3mm thick metal bed. Lifting up the top roller is for relief printing only, you will not be able to print anything but thinner intaglio plates on this press, optimally up to 1mm metal with a decent bevel on or thinner 0.8mm plates like our economy zinc or transparent printing plates. The Fome presses work well for line etching, drypoint, monoprint and relief. It must be stressed that these small press will not print with the same pressure as a larger heavier studio press. If you have designed your prints with your plates, inks, paper using a large heavy press, you will not necessarily be able to reproduce them on these small presses. Putting too much pressure on the presses can damage them. Please Note: The manufacturer recommends to attach this press to a table so you can get enough leverage for proper printing function.SpecificationsWeight: 8.5 Kg Length: 25 cm Width: 31.5 cm Height: 17 cm Width of ruler: 25.5 cm Diam. lower roller: 3.5 cm Diam. upper roller: 3.5 cm Metal plate: 26.8 x 42 x 0.3 cmMaximum board or lino thickness: 1.7cmRead our series of blog posts about setting up and using the Fome School Etching Press.Other Fome Presses available here.Replacement Fome Felt Mats available here.
This new-generation acid resist has been specially designed as part of the acrylic-resist etching system. The lines and marks which can be generated by using the Lascaux Hard resist are comparable to those offered by traditional hard grounds. It is painted on the plate in a thin even layer which when dry can be drawn into with etching tools. As the waxy resist allows free movement of the etching needle, delicate line drawings can be made. The resist may be used in its clear form or coloured after application. Broader open marks can also be created in the layer of resist. Lascaux Hard resist is water-soluble, ready to use, nontoxic and suitable for use on copper, brass, zinc, steel and aluminium. Plates should be correctly prepared, whether unbitten or previously etched (e.g. aquatint, deep open bite). The resist is highly acid resistant and durable. It is compatible with the other Lascaux resists and photopolymer resists such as Photec. Lascaux Hard resist may also be used to create a variety of effects on collagraph plates |
