Cognitive Assessment for Clinicians (Paperback, 3rd Revised edition): John R. Hodges Cognitive Assessment for Clinicians (Paperback, 3rd Revised edition)
John R. Hodges
R2,197 Discovery Miles 21 970 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

The third edition of the best-selling Cognitive Assessment for Clinicians provides readers with an up-to-date, practical guide to cognitive function and its assessment to ensure readers have a conceptual knowledge of normal psychological function and how to interpret their findings. Organized into 8 chapters, this resource offers a framework in which various aspects of cognition are considered. This includes the representation of cognition in the brain (such as attention and memory), focal representation (such as language, praxis and spatial abilities), detailed descriptions of the major syndromes encountered in clinical practice, and discussions on taking a patient's history and performing cognitive testing. To ensure readers are aware of the latest developments in patient assessment and neuropsychological practice all content has been carefully revised by John R. Hodges to include essential updates on areas such as the pathology and genetics of frontotemporal dementia, and social cognition and major syndromes encountered in clinical practice such as delirium. This useful resource offers a theoretical basis for cognitive assessment at the bedside or in the clinic, and a practical guide to taking an appropriate history and examining patients presenting with cognitive disorders. This edition also includes the latest version of Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination III (ACE-III), and 16 case histories on a variety of cognitive disorders illustrating the method of assessment and how to use the ACE-III in clinical practice. In addition, the appendix outlines the range of formal tests commonly used in neuropsychological practice.

R378 Discovery Miles 3 780 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

There are a number of paper and pencil instruments designed to gather data from people with OCD. The most common among them the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale which underwent an extensive and much needed revision in 2006. The Komor Comprehensive OCD Inventory (KCOCDI) was developed from the point of view of the person with OCD. As such it focuses on collecting information that will lead to one very specific goal - assisting the individual OCD sufferer My goal in its construction was to elicit the kind of information which OCDers have told me they want their treatment providers to have. Hopefully the KCOCDI accomplishes that. The KCOCDI is designed in sections so that separate assessments can be made of the range of symptoms the individual is experiencing, the intensity of those symptoms, the conditions which might work for or against them in the healing process, and the presence of Special Characteristics as well as co-existing obsessive compulsive spectrum problems.

Applied Psychometrics Using SAS (Paperback): Holmes Finch, Brian F. French, Jason C. Immekus Applied Psychometrics Using SAS (Paperback)
Holmes Finch, Brian F. French, Jason C. Immekus
R1,549 Discovery Miles 15 490 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The book is designed primarily for graduate students (or advanced undergraduates) who are learning psychometrics, as well as professionals in the field who need a reference for use in their practice. We would assume that users have some basic knowledge of using SAS to read data and conduct basic analyses (e.g., descriptive statistics, frequency distributions). In addition, the reader should be familiar with basic statistical concepts such as descriptive statistics (e.g., mean, median, variance, standard deviation), percentiles and the rudiments of hypothesis testing. They should also have a passing familiarity with issues in psychometrics such as reliability, validity and test/survey scoring. The authors do not assume any more than basic familiarity with these issues, and devote a portion of each chapter (as well as the entire first chapter) to reviewing many of these basic ideas for those not familiar with them. This book will be useful either as a primary text for a course on applied measurement where SAS is the main platform for instruction, or as a supplement to a more theoretical text. The readership will include graduate students, faculty members, data analysts and psychometricians responsible for analysis of survey response data, as well as educational and psychological assessments. This book aims to provide readers with the tools necessary for assessing the psychometric qualities of educational and psychological measures as well as surveys and questionnaires. Each chapter covers an issue pertinent to psychometric and measurement practice, with an emphasis on application. Topics are briefly discussed from a theoretical/technical perspective in order to provide the reader with the background necessary to correctly use and interpret the statistical analyses that is presented subsequently. Readers are then presented with examples illustrating a particular concept (e.g., reliability). These examples include a discussion of the particular analysis, along with the SAS code necessary to conduct them. The resulting output is then discussed in detail, focusing on the interpretation of the results. Finally, examples of how these results might be written up is also included in the text. This mixture of theory with examples of actual practice will serve the reader both as a pedagogical tool and as a reference work.

Designed to complement the Mental Measurements Yearbooks, Tests in Print fills a pressing need for a comprehensive bibliography of commercially available English-language tests. Although these volumes are helpful in and of themselves, their maximum usefulness requires the availability and use of the Mental Measurements Yearbooks. Information on available tests and specific test bibliographies are valuable, but the greatest service of Tests in Print is to encourage test users to choose tests more wisely by consulting the Mental Measurements Yearbooks' test reviews, test reviews from journals, and professional literature on the construction, use, and psychometric properties of tests under consideration. Tests in Print IX contains descriptive information on approximately three thousand testing instruments. Detailed descriptions of each test include data on test purpose, target population, scores, administration time, publication date(s), author(s), and pricing. Indexes of test titles, publishers, acronyms, and subject classifications are provided as well as notations on out-of-print tests. Tests in Print IX provides specific information about testing required by professionals in diverse areas such as education, psychology, counseling, management, career planning, child development, and research. It also serves as a comprehensive index to the Mental Measurements Yearbook series by directing readers to the appropriate volume for reviews of specific tests.

Applied Psychometrics using SPSS and AMOS (Paperback): Holmes Finch, Brian French, Jason Immekus Applied Psychometrics using SPSS and AMOS (Paperback)
Holmes Finch, Brian French, Jason Immekus
R1,114 Discovery Miles 11 140 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

The book will be designed primarily for graduate students (or advanced undergraduates) who are learning psychometrics, as well as professionals in the field who need a reference for use in their practice. We would assume that users have some basic knowledge of using SPSS to read data and conduct basic analyses (e.g., descriptive statistics, frequency distributions). They should also have a passing familiarity with issues in psychometrics such as reliability, validity and test/survey scoring. We will not assume any more than basic familiarity with these issues, and will devote a portion of each chapter (as well as the entire first chapter) to reviewing many of these basic ideas for those not familiar with them. We envision the book as being useful either as a primary text for a course on applied measurement where SPSS is the main platform for instruction, or as a supplement to a more theoretical text. We also anticipate that readers working in government agencies responsible for testing and measurement issues at the local, state and national levels, and private testing, survey and market research companies, as well as faculty members needing a practical resource for psychometric practice will serve as a market for the book. In short, the readership would include graduate students, faculty members, data analysts and psychometricians responsible for analysis of survey response data, as well as educational and psychological assessments. The goal of the book is to provide readers with the tools necessary for assessing the psychometric qualities of educational and psychological measures as well as surveys and questionnaires. Each chapter will cover an issue pertinent to psychometric and measurement practice, with an emphasis on application. Topics will be briefly discussed from a theoretical/technical perspective in order to provide the reader with the background necessary to correctly use and interpret the statistical analyses that will be presented subsequently. Readers will then be presented with examples illustrating a particular concept (e.g., reliability). These examples will include a discussion of the particular analysis, along with the SPSS code necessary to conduct them. The resulting output will then be discussed in detail, focusing on the interpretation of the results. Finally, examples of how these results might be written up will also be included in the text. It is hoped that this mixture of theory with examples of actual practice will serve the reader both as a pedagogical tool and as a reference work. To our knowledge, no book outlining psychometric practice using commonly available software such as SPSS currently exists. Given that many practitioners in academia, government and private industry use SPSS for statistical analyses of testing data, we believe that our book will fill an important niche in the market. It will contain very practical information regarding how to conduct a wide variety of psychometric analyses, along with tips on interpretation of results and the appropriate format for reporting these results. We believe that it will prove useful to individuals in educational measurement, psychometrics, and survey and market research. Our text will add to the literature by providing users with a single reference containing the major ideas in applied psychometrics with instructions and examples for conducting the analyses in SPSS. In addition, we will provide original macros for estimating a variety of statistics and conducting analyses common in educational and psychological measurement.

Psychology 101 as you wish it were taught: a collection of entertaining experiments, quizzes, jokes, and interactive exercises
Psychology is the study of mind and behavior: how and why people do absolutely everything that people do, from the most life-changing event such as choosing a partner, to the most humdrum, such as having an extra donut. Ben Ambridge takes these findings and invites the reader to test their knowledge of themselves, their friends, and their families through quizzes, jokes, and games. You'll measure your personality, intelligence, moral values, skill at drawing, capacity for logical reasoning, and more--all of it adding up to a greater knowledge of yourself, a higher "Psy-Q."
Lighthearted, fun, and accessible, this is the perfect introduction to psychology that can be fully enjoyed and appreciated by readers of all ages.

Take Dr. Ben's quizzes to learn:
- If listening to Mozart makes you smarter
- Whether or not your boss is a psychopath
- How good you are at waiting for a reward (and why it matters)
- Why we find symmetrical faces more attractive
- What your taste in art says about you

The Wechsler Intelligence Scale is the most widely used intelligence test for children worldwide. WISC-V introduces new subtests, composite scores, process scores, error scores, and scaled scores as a more complex and accurate means of assessing cognitive abilities. WISC-V Assessment and Interpretation provides practical information for clinicians on selection of subtest measures, administration, and interpretation. New subtests are described along with tips for accurate administration and scoring. Full Scale IQ is identified as important for predicting relevant behaviors, and primary index scores for characterizing the child's strengths and weaknesses. Classroom indicators of low scores on each of these abilities are identified, with suggested interventions, accommodations, and instructional strategies for low scorers. Coverage includes ethnic differences for the Full Scale IQ and each primary index score, along with evidence of the profound influence of parental attitudes and expectations. Several other societal and contextual factors relevant to understanding racial/ethnic differences are presented. Two chapters review use of the WISC-V for identifying learning disabilities, testing of individuals with dyslexia, and best-practice recommendations to ensure accurate diagnosis and intervention. Concluding chapters describe advances in the Q-interactive system platform allowing administration of the WISC-V on iPads and other tablets and how clinicians can tailor assessment using select WISC-V subtests and features.

The OCD Recovery Center Comprehensive Inventory (Paperback): Christian Robert Komor The OCD Recovery Center Comprehensive Inventory (Paperback)
Christian Robert Komor
R136 Discovery Miles 1 360 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This assessment instrument was over 10 years in the making. During most of that time I was traveling the United States on seminar tours where I had the amazing opportunity to train thousands of colleagues in optimal diagnosis and treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Spectrum disorders. Occasionally we would have people with OCD in the seminar. Often the professional in the audience were not aware of how unique it was to have someone with OCD teaching how to treat OCD. The attendees with OCD got it touch and, though I would often get standing ovations, their applause at the end of the day was always the most warm and vigorous. They knew that I "got it." While I have great respect for my fellow mental health professionals who attempt to understand and assist people with OCD, the reality is you just can't fully get it unless you are one of us. There are a number of paper and pencil instruments designed to gather data from people with OCD to augment treatment planning and progress, the most common among them the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale. This special assessment instrument was developed from the point of view of the person with OCD. As such it focuses on collecting information that will lead to one very specific goal - assisting the person completing the survey in feeling better My goal in its construction was to elicit the kind of information which OCD sufferers have told me they want their treatment provides to have. In a sense taking a test, survey or inventory is participating in research - generating data. I believe all healthcare research must demonstrate the ability to improve the human condition or it should not be sanctioned. Hopefully The OCD Recovery Center Comprehensive Inventory accomplishes that. The OCDRC-CI is designed in sections so that separate assessments can be made of the range of symptoms the individual is experiencing, the intensity of those symptoms, the conditions which might work for or against them in the healing process, and the presence of Special Characteristics as well as co-existing obsessive compulsive spectrum problems. Your feedback as a user is always welcome so feel free to be in touch. I hope the OCDRC-CI will be helpful for you and those you share it with.

Statistics is the field of knowledge concerned with data collection, data analysis, and data interpretation and presentation. Methodology comprises the many and varied structured ways in which research is conducted - answering the fundamental question: How does the researcher effectively gather information for particular purposes? Both are core topics underlying the discipline of psychology and the other social, physical, and medical sciences. Moreover, a basic understanding of the language of statistics and research methods is required for any serious student, scientist, and practitioner in these fields. The APA Dictionary of Statistics and Research Methods is a focused reference resource that explores the lexicon of these two profoundly interrelated areas. It provides Over 4,000 entries offering clear and authoritative definitions; Balanced coverage in such core areas as research planning and design, psychometrics, quantitative and qualitative measurements, and data analysis; Hundreds of incisive cross-references that deepen the user's understanding of related topics; More than 100 illustrations of some of the common and uncommon data display methods; A Quick Guide to Use that explains stylistic and formal features at a glance; and Appendixes listing common abbreviations and statistical symbols

Rossella Guarna, Felice Perussia
R425 Discovery Miles 4 250 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

PsyLogy Tables are the complete technique of projective tables which upgrades, bringing to a new and more sophisticated level, the old and often criticized boards of the Rorschach and the TAT. PsyLogy Tables are the innovative tools that allow you to finally take a step forward in the field of cognitive science and psychodynamics. We introduce here the official format of the original 41 PsyLogy Tables, selected after a long analytical and experimental screening of the constructs that characterize the deep psychological sensitivity of the people of our time. PsyLogy Tables build on more than one hundred years of research on the psychology of personality and on psychological analysis. After nearly a century of old painted boards, PsyLogy Tables are finally taking into account the visual sensibility of our time and the progress we have made in scientific research in psychology. PsyLogy Tables are the new projective psychotechnique. PsyLogy is the indispensable tool for any psychologist who has chosen to be contemporary.
