The hey-day of the British gypsy caravan was short, only about 70
years, during which period it grew from a simple utility vehicle,
blossomed and flourished as a mobile work of art, then disappeared
from common sight. These caravans were masterpieces of woodcraft
and design, and the best of them cost as much as a small house.
Unlike any small house, almost half the cost was in the decoration.
This beautifully illustrated book presents the different types of
caravan and the great variety of art which was carved and painted
upon them and their brothers-in-transport, the old narrowboats.
While there were certain rules and conventions of style, the
decoration on and in all the types was ultimately governed only by
how much money could be spent. The caravan in particular was the
supreme status symbol among travelling people and its art the prime
means for expressing where one stood in the world.
Now in paperback, a "piercing and beautiful" (Domenica Ruta) memoir
about one woman's road to hope following the death of her troubled
brother, told through the series of cars that accompanied her
Growing up in a blue-collar family in the Midwest, Melissa
Stephenson longed for escape. Her wanderlust was an innate reaction
to the powerful personalities around her, and came too from her
desire to find a place in the world where her artistic ambitions
wouldn't be thwarted. She found in automobiles the promise of a
future. From a lineage of secondhand family cars of the late '60s,
to the Honda that carried her from Montana to Texas as her new
marriage disintegrated, to the '70s Ford she drove away from her
brother's house after he took his life (leaving Melissa the truck,
a dog, and a few mix tapes), to the VW van she now uses to take her
kids camping, she knows these cars better than she knows some of
the people closest to her. Driven from grief and toward hope,
Melissa reckons with what it means to lose a beloved sibling.
Driven is a powerful story of healing, for all who have had to look
back at pain to find the way forward.

Throughout the history of the sports car, no marque has epitomized
the excitement and passion of driving like Porsche. The Saratoga
Automobile Museum, in collaboration with architect Steven Harris,
presents 22 of the marque's rarest air and water-cooled cars. This
remarkable collection highlights the manufacturer's past seven
decades of production--from 356 Carreras and Speedsters, to
high-performance RS 911s--all captured in sensational detail by
James Lipman, a photographer favored by both manufacturers and
various popular publications such as Car and Driver, Motor Trend,
and Top Gear. The stunning imagery is accompanied by specifications
and history, as well as driving impressions from leading automotive
writers Jethro Bovingdon, Andrew English, Andrew Frankel, Richard
Meaden, and John Simister. Air & Water combines breathtaking
imagery and words to transport the reader on a thrilling journey of
being behind the wheel of these ultra-rare machines.

Porsche and motorsport always belonged together - so you would
think. But in fact, private owners were the first to be successful
with their 356s on the racing tracks. The Porsche 550 Spyder from
the 1950s was the first racing car manufactured at the plant - and
achieved great successes right from the beginning! Motorsport not
only gave Porsche the opportunity to test progressive technology
that could be transferred to roadsters, it also was the ideal
marketing tool with an enormous influence. Looking back at models
like the Porsche 917, 904 and 956, successful serial winners and
racing legends emerged from that. Just as legendary are Rene
Staud's Porsche photos. As one of the best and most famous
automobile photographers in the world, he staged the top-class
sports cars in a way so far unmatched. Beyond the racing track's
noise and dirt, the Porsche models unfold their unique magic and
show the tough developmental work behind them as well as the
timelessness of functional design. Text in English and German.

With stunning bikes, technical advancements and pivotal milestones,
the 1980s was a vibrant period for motorcycling in Britain.
Accelerating sales saw the decade begin with the old, twin-shock
Universal Japanese Motorcycles and end with race replicas,
fully-faired tourers and screaming strokers. Bike sport grew and
had a bigger influence on what was being ridden on the road.
Learners became restricted to 125s, and the Paris-Dakar Rally
spawned a new class of road-going replicas such as the Africa Twin,
the precursors of today's popular adventure bikes. And on the
street, hooligan 'LC Johnnys' evolved into Simpson Bandit-wearing
'streetfighters' and day-glo-bedecked road racers on GSX-Rs. Having
ridden and written about virtually every new bike since the 1970s,
Phil West looks back at fifty motorcycles that were all hugely
loved and lusted over during the decade that inspired a generation
of bikers.
