Batman Begins (2005)
In the wake of his parents' murder, disillusioned industrial heir Bruce Wayne travels the world seeking the means to fight injustice and turn fear against those who prey on the fearful. He returns to Gotham and unveils his alter-ego: Batman, a masked crusader who uses his strength, intellect and an array of high-tech deceptions to fight the sinister forces that threaten the city.

The Dark Knight (2008)
Batman, aided by Commissioner Gordon and new District Attorney Harvey Dent, has managed to rid Gotham's streets of the organised crime gangs that once ravaged the city. Things seem to be looking up, although on the personal front, Bruce Wayne discovers he has a rival in his affections for main squeeze Rachel Dawes in the shape of the new DA who, as a political climber, likes to keep his cards close to his chest. But just when the authorities think they're finally making progress in their fight against crime, the appearance on the streets of a sinister new figure, with a demented grin and a passion for chaos, causes panic among the good people of Gotham, and leads to a battle of wits between Batman and the Joker which threatens to get extremely personal.

The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane.

A sprawling epic tracing the fortunes of several generations of an American pioneer family as they move West and cope with the Civil War. The film's several sections were made by different directors, including Henry Hathaway and John Ford. Spencer Tracy narrates, while Henry Fonda, Gregory Peck, James Stewart and John Wayne top the all-star bill. Not to be confused with the 1970s television series.

Sergio Leone's epic spaghetti Western starring Charles Bronson and Henry Fonda. Frank (Fonda) is a sadistic outlaw hired by a crippled railroad baron (Gabrielle Ferzetti) to murder a farmer named Brett McBain (Frank Wolff) and his family in order for his boss to inherit the land. When McBain's new wife Jill (Claudia Cardinale) arrives from Utah to find her family slaughtered, she vows to get revenge on the perpetrator, with the help of another outlaw named Cheyenne (Jason Robards) and a mysterious man known only as 'Harmonica' (Bronson).

Blake Edwards' screen adaptation of Truman Capote's novella stars Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly, an eccentric high-class escort working in New York. When young writer Paul Varjack (George Peppard) - the kept man of a wealthy older woman - moves into Holly's apartment block, he finds inspiration when he falls in love with her. Daring in its day, it is believed by some that Peppard was chosen because he bore an uncanny resemblance to Capote himself.

When Romeo (Leonardo DiCaprio), a Montague, attends a Capulet ball in disguise, he falls in love with the beautiful Juliet (Claire Danes). Although already engaged to Dave Paris, whom she does not love, Juliet vows to marry Romeo. They ask the kindly Father Laurence to perform the ceremony in secret, but bloodshed and tragedy threaten the couple's future together.

During World War II, seven Allied agents are selected to rescue an American general from the impenetrable German fortress Schloss Adler. In charge of the team is British Major Smith (Richard Burton), with American Lieutenant Schaffer (Clint Eastwood) as second in command. Parachuting into the enemy territory in German uniforms, the squad discover one of their number dead on arrival, and Smith suspects that he may have a traitor amongst his unit. Alistair Maclean wrote the screenplay and the film is reported to be amongst director Quentin Tarantino's favourites.

John Moxey directs this cult British horror starring Christopher Lee. In the 1600s the town of Whitewood, Massachusetts tries Elizabeth Selwyn (Patricia Jessel) for being a witch. Desperate to save herself, she makes a pact with Lucifer in exchange for her soul. Fast forward three hundred years and young student Nan Barlow (Venetia Stephenson) is researching witchcraft in history for her college thesis. She decides to take a trip to Whitewood following a recommendation from her professor Alan Driscoll (Lee). Born and raised in the town, Driscoll suggests she lodge at the Ravens Inn, run by the mysterious Mrs Newless (Jessel). However, Nan soon finds that things are not all they seem in Whitewood and that Mrs Newless might be hiding a terrifying secret.

Fantasy adventure based on the bestselling graphic novel by Neil Gaiman and Charles Vess. When a young man, Tristan (Charlie Cox), tries to win the heart of his beautiful but cold object of his desire Victoria (Sienna Miller) by going on a quest to retrieve a fallen star, his journey takes him to a mysterious and forbidden land beyond the walls of his village. On his odyssey, Tristan finds the star, which has transformed into a striking girl called Yvaine (Claire Danes). However, Tristan is not the only one seeking the star. A king (Peter O'Toole)'s four sons - not to mention the ghosts of their three dead brothers - all need the star as they vie for the throne. Tristan must also overcome the evil witch, Lamia (Michelle Pfeiffer), who needs the star to make her young again. As Tristan battles to survive these threats, encountering a pirate named Captain Shakespeare (Robert De Niro) and a shady trader named Ferdy the Fence (Ricky Gervais) along the way, his quest changes. He must now win the heart of the star for himself as he discovers the meaning of true love.

Christopher Lloyd stars in this supernatural thriller based on Dan Wells' novel. The film follows sociopathic, bullied teenager John Wayne Cleaver (Max Records) as he investigates the seemingly paranormal serial killer terrorising his rural Midwestern town. After being told by his therapist that he has the psychological profile of a serial killer, John grapples with his own homicidal tendencies, that he's developed systems to curb, as he tries to use his own insights to track down the elusive killer. As he does so, he begins to suspect that his elderly neighbour Crowley (Lloyd) isn't as innocent as he seems.

Young Charlie Bucket (Peter Ostrum) wins one of the coveted 'Golden Tickets' from a Wonka Bar that allows its holder to take a trip around the eccentric Willy Wonka's (Gene Wilder) Chocolate Factory. Charlie and the rest of the winners find themselves in a magical world of chocolate rivers, Oompa Loompas, everlasting gobstoppers, lickable wall-paper, golden egg-laying geese and chilling tales to warn children not to misbehave. Roald Dahl wrote the screenplay from his own book.

Luc Besson's film about the dangers of obsession and rivalry. A lifelong rivalry between two deep sea divers (who dive without aqualungs) culminates in a series of free-diving competitions. Jacques Mayol (Jean-Marc Barr) can reach unprecedented depths without breathing apparatus, while Enzo (Jean Reno) is driven to dive by obsession. Rosanna Arquette falls for Jacques when she sees him diving in Peru, where she is working. But she is unable to get in contact with him and when he returns to Italy she hatches a plot to get work to transfer her there so that she can be close to him.

However, the resistance sends another robot (Arnold Schwarzenegger) back from the future to help keep Connor, and his future wife, alive.

Alan Parker's musical spoof of gangster films features an all-child cast with guns that fire cream. When gang warfare erupts between Fat Sam and Dandy Dan, hustler Bugsy Malone (Scott Baio), singer Tallulah (Jodie Foster) and newly arrived showgirl Blousey Brown (Florrie Dugger) find themselves caught up in the middle of it.

Bruce Willis re-teams with 'Sixth Sense' writer-director M. Night Shyamalan for this tense, atmospheric thriller. David Dunn (Willis) is the sole survivor of one of the worst train crashes in US history. Walking away without a scratch on him, Dunn is unable to explain why he should have been spared; but then, when he meets the mysterious Elijah Price (Samuel L. Jackson), he is encouraged to begin asking himself important questions. Why has he never fallen sick? Why has he never been injured? What purpose could there be to his special gifts?

Luca Bercovici co-writes and directs this American comedy horror. After moving into his late father's mansion, with his girlfriend Rebecca (Lisa Pelikan), Jonathan Graves (Peter Liapis) begins to dabble in the occult. Continuing his father's work, he inadvertently unleashes a flurry of nasty supernatural creatures and accidentally resurrects his dead father Malcolm (Michael Des Barres).

It's save the earth time again, as a group of unfeasibly hot astronauts dare to go... Danny Boyle directs his take on the earth-under-threat scenario in an often gloomy and violent fashion. This time round, it's fifty years from now, and the Sun is on its way out, threatening mass destruction here on earth. Eight sexy astronauts (including Cillian Murphy, Rose Byrne, Michelle Yeoh and Chris Evans) have been dispatched to the heart of the solar system in a ship called, ominously, the Icarus II - to kickstart the sputtering star. The notion of darkness and the fear it instills is utilized as a scaremongering theme but is alternated with jarring scenes of pure white light when the ship nears its objective. With a few jolts of unexpected terror and a moody soundtrack by Underworld, Boyle tries very hard to make you afraid of the dark again.
