In this 10th volume of the economic history of colonial NSW, the
matter of population growth is reviewed, with population gains
coming from favorable economic drivers and economic cycles,
exploration, immigration, natural increase and British investment.
The historical approach to Statistical Data gathering, its origins
and reliability, is outlined as are the statistics used and their
interpretation. The early musters (of convicts) is discussed
together with commentary on the supporting datas derived from the
numbers of convicts 'on the store'. With the Aboriginal economy
outperforming the white colony from 1788 to the early 1820s, the
operation of the Aboriginal economy is also discussed and the
circumstances of its depopulation. Adding to the population history
is a statement that traditional reporting of the history is:
*Britain settled the continent for;'strategic' advantages and to
find a source of raw materials for its industries, as well as being
an outlet for its trading and a takeover of local resources under
its expanding economic system. *Economic development took place in
their new colony, beneficial mainly to British interests including,
industry, trade, insurance and investment. As important as trade
and investment became to the new colony, the main aspect of the
population history is the transfer of human capital in the form of
over 160,000 convicted persons under a transportation program from
the United Kingdom.
The question of economic transformation is an immediate and
practical one for the English-speaking Caribbean. In the
postindependence period, Caribbean governments seemed blissfully
unaware that the inability to transform their economies was leading
to serious unemployment problems. The statistics are quite stark.
Unemployment rates in the Caribbean range from 6% in the more
prosperous states to 23% in the less prosperous ones. This use of
economic transformation and job creation continues to be a major
challenge in the first decade of the twenty-first Century. This is
the subject that is treated with impressive urgency in this volume
entitled Economic Transformation and Job Creation: The Caribbean
Experience.

This Book is aimed for everyone interested in projects; engineers,
marketing and/or financial men. Feasibility of projects is first
defined. Then we fly over the marketing and technical feasibility
aspects before defining the financial feasibility. My preferences
in term of formula are detailed as well as the variables in this
formula; cash flows, interest rates, exchange rates, lifetime of
the project. After collecting all prior figures from the marketing,
technical, organizational and legal aspects, one may align these
figures in a financial feasibility study. A few examples from a
simple one to more complex ones are evoked.
Firms increase commitment to foreign markets with growing
experience in international business. The basic premise of the
internationalization process theory is that knowledge is acquired
through experience abroad. Maud Oortwijn's research work finds how
this learning process within the firm is reflected in the
managerial host country assessment. Managers perceive the new host
country more optimistic with increasing experience in international
business. International Business scholars often report on
macro-economic factors and post-entrance business performance. This
research studies 25 firms on 54 foreign entry commitment choices
while in the process of decision making for foreign entrance. This
also allows for unique insight in the Go/No-Go decision. Some firms
decide to cancel or postpone plans, while others continue with
different entry modes.
Information and communication systems are an essential component of
our society, forcing us to become dependent on these
infrastructures. At the same time, these systems are undergoing a
convergence and interconnection process that, besides its benefits,
raises specific threats to user interests. Citizens and
organizations must feel safe when using cyberspace facilities in
order to benefit from its advantages. Network Security and Its
Impact on Business Strategy provides innovative insights into the
impact of m-commerce, m-learning, and m-knowledge management
technologies and the risks their usage has on different
organizations, such as online stores, higher education
institutions, multinational corporations, health providers, and
more. Highlighting topics including cyberterrorism, smart security,
and cyber ethics, this book is designed for IT and security
specialists and consultants, managers and risk managers,
corporations, health providers, researchers, academicians, and
students.
