Medical Arabic is a valuable resource for students interested in
learning medical Arabic at ACTFL level Advanced Low. Effective
communication is essential in health care, and communication is
most effective when both parties share a common language, therefore
resulting in a comfortable relationship between health care
provider and patient. This textbook is intended for those with
prior knowledge of Arabic language and grammar. It is designed to
provide students with the linguistic and cultural competencies and
medical Arabic terminology necessary to communicate in medical
settings such as a hospital, clinic, or a community health care
facility. Students will be able to ask questions in Arabic and
provide answers in common medical situations, conduct patient
interviews, and understand a wider variety of possible responses
from patients. The book provides clear explanations of medical
vocabulary and concepts as they occur in the reading materials to
encourage active interaction with the text. The book's drills are
designed as either in-class exercises or homework. The answer key
for the book exercises is also provided as a downloadable
e-resource. Written by dynamic authors who taught Arabic as a
foreign language for several years and reviewed by physicians and
professionals in the field, the book is an essential guide for
students in medical school, biology, and other science majors.
Students will find Medical Arabic more than merely a textbook but
rather a pathway to enhance their communication skills effectively.
The Romanistische Arbeitshefte (Romance Studies Workbooks), edited
by Georgia Veldre-Gerner and Volker Noll since 2004, have been
constant and reliable companions for students of Romance Studies
for fifty years. In their conception, they are designed as a
reflection of the present state of research with an orientation
towards application and the specific needs and difficulties of
students. Thus they provide a reliable instrument for getting to
grips with various areas of Romance linguistic studies and
encourage students to utilise their newly-acquired knowledge with
integrated exercises.

It gives detailed information on the procedures which designers follow. The book is a description of research and will therefore interest applied linguists and students in the field. It is written in a clear and comprehensible way, and should appeal to all those who want to learn to write good language teaching materials.
Aimed at young learners and false beginners who may have done an O
Level or GCSE in the past and are returning to French after a gap
of a few years, this title offers a two-track approach: flexible
tutor-led activities for use in class, together with user-friendly
activities for private study. Combining lively content with clear
grammatical explanation the course provides enough material for 24
weeks of study and assumes a weekly pace of 2 hours in class and 2
hours at home. The course comes with audio tapes containing
listening activities for self study.
geschriebene/gesprochene Gegenwartssprache) ergibt. So wird ein
UEberblick uber Wandel und Konstanz im deutschen Wortbildungssystem
erreicht. Die detaillierte Darstellung der Lexeme und die
Ergebnisse zu Korrespondenz und Konvergenz wortgebildeter Woerter
im Korpus stellt zudem einen Beitrag zur mhd. Lexikologie dar.
Migration verandert unsere Gesellschaft nachhaltig. Sprache spielt
dabei die zentrale Rolle. Sprachlich-kommunikative Prozesse
Einheimischen? Wie hangen Sprache, Bildungs- und Berufssituation
der Migranten zusammen?
The study is principally based on empirical data; it examines
language development processes in the four regionally contiguous
cities of Emmerich, Geldern, Nijmegen and Wesel in the early modern
age. Using the linguistic study of variables and historical
sociolinguistics, the author traces the processes initiating the
formation of the linguistic boundary between German and Nederlans
in the area of Rhine and Meuse. In this, the viability is tested
both of the "classic" theories of German language standardisation
(territorial influence, influence of printing and of Luther's
language) and of more recent explanatory approaches (significance
of the cities and the multilingualism of the upper classes). The
study has an important contribution to make to the historical
linguistic description of the early stage in the genesis of the
modern national languages of German and Dutch.

A standard work of historical word formation research. Still
unsurpassed, it sums up the results of predecessors in this area
(the classical works of J. Grimm and W. Wilmanns and the
presentations of H. Paul and F. Kluge) in a clear and
understandable manner. Prof. Dr. Kurt Gartner"
What does the grammatical category tense have to do with orality,
and how can this relationship be investigated in historical
context? This study explores this question based on a detailed
empirical investigation of the Middle High German tense system.
Here the textual and functional distribution of the tenses are
traced back to a binary structured system depending on two
different discourse modes, thus showing an indirect relationship
between tense and a oehistorical oralitya .
Packed with contemporary dialogue, engaging readings, active
vocabulary, and an assortment of hands-on activities, NEUE
HORIZONTE, 8e skillfully instills both communicative and
grammatical competency using a diversified methodology that adapts
well to a variety of teaching and learning styles. The new edition
combines a vibrant new four-color design with its signature clear
grammar presentations, practical vocabulary lessons, beautiful
prose and poetry, and more. Immersing readers into a complete
language-learning experience, its unique integrated treatment
stresses a balance of communicative competence, cultural awareness,
and mastery of language structures.
The study focuses on the correlations existing between the
conceptual properties of the modalities of visual and auditory
perception and the semantic-syntactic behavior of the verbs of
perception ver/voir, oA-r/entendre, mirar/regarder, and
escuchar/A(c)couter. In part one of the book, the author argues
that visual perception and auditory perception differ in terms of
extra-linguistic criteria. Part two draws upon empirical material
to advance syntactic evidence for a connection between the
cognitive features of visual and auditory perception and the
syntactic behavior of verbs expressing such perception.
This volume covers more than 200 years of recording specific
language in German explanatory dictionaries. For the first time,
the comparative analysis of six dictionaries from the 18th to the
20th century provides reliable data which subject areas were
covered lexicographically and which special methods of marking were
used. Nautical language serves as an example to show constancy and
changes in adding new specific vocabularies in the above mentioned
time period. A broad overview of specific language research since
the 19th century rounds off the book.
Using significant examples, this volume offers an overview of the
ever growing range of electronic information resources for scholars
of German studies. Modern forms of library catalogues,
bibliographies and article databases, as well as web catalogues,
virtual special libraries, digital libraries, subject portals,
electronic encyclopaedia and dictionaries are all dealt with in
detail. In addition, scholarly search engines, information services
and German studies reviews are taken into account, as are the
different forms of scholarly communication on the Internet.
The Intertext series has been specifically designed to meet the needs of contemporary English Language Studies. The core book, Working with Texts, is the foundation text which provides an introduction to language analysis. It is complemented by a range of 'satellite' titles which provide students with hands-on practical experience of textual analysis through special topics. They can be used individually or in conjunction with Working with Texts. Drawing on literary and linguistic theory for analysis of texts, The Language of Advertising covers all aspects of advertising language, from the interrelation of language, image and layout to the discourse between 'reader' and advertisement. The second edition has been substantially rewritten to incorporate recent developments in the field. Features include: * a range of new advertisements, from Orange to Young Person's Railcard * new material on internet advertising and its influence on paper texts * new material on advertising designed to be seen 'on the move' * new activities to support student-directed study * updated Further Reading sections and a list of URLS for students to visit.
This monograph on the verb have in the function of a full verb
asserts that have-constructions in the syntactic analysis are to be
placed in relationship with absolute with-constructions (cf. Mit
den Fussen auf dem Tisch erwarte ich meine Schwiegereltern Literal
translation: With my feet on the table I expect my
parents-in-law]). Furthermore, the study also contributes to a
better understanding of the syntax and semantics of adjectives. The
findings are interpreted within the context of generative and
optimal theoretical models."
