Originally published in 1919 as part of the Cambridge Modern French
Series, this book contains the French text of J. J. Jusserand's
book on nomadic life in the fourteenth century in England. Arthur
Wilson-Green includes a series of exercises in French at the
conclusion of the text, as well as extracts from texts in English
that cover similar topics. This book will be of value to anyone
with an interest in the French reception of English history.
The monograph is devoted to the notion of strategic intervention
and its application in the foreign language classroom, in
particular with reference to teaching grammar structures. The first
four chapters, which are theoretical in nature, address such
concepts as form-focused instruction, language learning strategies
and strategies-based instruction. The last chapter provides insight
into the results of a study investigating the grammar learning
strategies employed by advanced learners of English. Additionally,
the chapter presents the views of foreign language teachers on the
idea of introducing strategy training in the foreign language
classroom. The book closes with the discussion concerning the
implementation of strategy training and its value in
teaching target language grammar.
This book argues that a tribe of the primitive society is formed
because of kinship, while a state of the civilized society is
formed because of language. When humans communicate using language,
they extend the distance and the reaches of communication. They
expand their communities. States replace tribes. Language underlies
the formation of the state. Then, accordingly, language also
underlies the organization of the state as men create language
solutions in the organization of the state such as constitution,
election and representation. The extension of linguistic
communication distance also underlies the formation of three
juxtaposing branches of government administrative, legislative and
judicial body. It also enables men to create various forms of
civilization such as history, philosophy, literature, art, religion
and law which play a role in the construction of men's spirit that
guides the operation of the state. Language presets the whole
process of the progress of civilization.
Forty lessons designed to introduce beginning students to the
basic patterns and structures of Classical Chinese are taken from a
number of pre-Han and Han texts selected to give students a
grounding in exemplary Classical Chinese style. Two additional
lessons use texts from later periods to help students appreciate
the changes in written Chinese over the centuries.
Each lesson consists of a text, a vocabulary list featuring
discussions of meaning and usage, explanations of grammar, and
explications of difficult passages. The standard modern Chinese,
Japanese, and Korean pronunciations are indicated for each
character, making this a learning tool for native speakers of those
languages as well. Appendices give suggestions for further
readings, review common and significant words, explain the radical
system, and provide Japanese kanbun readings for all the
selections. Glossaries of all vocabulary items and pronunciation
indexes for modern Chinese and Korean are also included.
Latin Beyond GCSE covers all the linguistic requirements for the
OCR AS and A Level in Latin. It aims to bring students to a point
where they can tackle original Latin texts with confidence.

self-contained and can be used independently. This new edition is
brought in line with the new OCR specifications and benefits from a
completely redesigned layout, with added colour and images. The
answer key is available on a companion website. The first part of
the book introduces new constructions and the translation of
sentences from English to Latin, with reading passages at AS
standard. The next sections provide translation and comprehension
passages at AS and A-level, including verse unseens, scansion, and
a list of 300 common poetic words. Next come longer unadapted
extracts from a range of authors. Finally there is a reference
section including a summary of all constructions, a comprehensive
grammar, and a general vocabulary of about 1200 Latin words.
