"Der Stenzler," das klassische Lehr- und Studienbuch zur
Sanskrit-Sprache, liegt jetzt in einer verbesserten Neuauflage vor.
Sie wurde vollstAndig durchgesehen und A1/4berarbeitet.
This book assumes no prior knowledge of the language and begins with the teaching of the Persian alphabet. Grammar and vocabulary are each covered in full. The course has not adopted any method of transliteration and expects the student to read and write in Persian script from the start. It places equal emphasis on reading, writing and speaking. It aims to provide the student with the necessary skills for social interaction, as well as a basis for the study of modern literature. The course consists of 48 units and favours teaching by communicative and contextual learning. Most units begin with a reading exercise used to introduce an item of grammar and new vocabulary, followed by explanations and drill exercises aimed at consolidating the student's understanding. Each unit also contains a strong oral communication element which helps the student assimilate the theory through interaction with the teacher and other students, at first concentrating on transactional language, then moving increasingly towards more idiomatic Persian. Complete with a Persian-English and English-Persian vocabulary to all the exercises and tape recordings, this is an up-to-date textbook which can be used both by teachers or individuals wishing to learn Persian independently.
This highly original and pragmatic guide is designed for students
at intermediate levels seeking a better grade on their Spanish
exams. It offers a thirty-day revision program that is guaranteed
to improve one's results. Students are encouraged to spend anywhere
from 30 minutes to an hour with
the book as exams approach and they should see a marked improvement
in performance. Short, accessible, and user-friendly, the book
stresses three key strategies for exam improvement: eliminating
basic errors and slips of the pen, increasing and consolidating
vocabulary, and moving on from schoolbook
Spanish.
Which spelling rules require less grammatical knowledge a " the
'old' ones or the reformed ones? Sabine Mayr examines the rules
given in three popular 'old' and 'new' spelling dictionaries
(Duden, 20. ed. 1991 and 22. ed. 2000; Bertelsmann 1999) to
determine which grammatical terms they assume the users know, where
comprehension problems arise and whether or how these are solved
(e.g. which grammar gives further assistance). The comparison shows
that with the spelling reform the comprehensibility of the rules
had also improved somewhat.
These three volumes form a complete textbook for a course for
English-language speakers who want to learn Czech. The first volume
presents the basics of the Czech language by means of continuous
and systematic acquisition of vocabulary and conversational phrases
grouped around useful topics and situations. Basic Czech II is
structured similarly, but it moves students from beginning to
intermediate work, gradually delving into more complicated issues
of grammar and usage. It includes a compact disc that features
audio exercises built around texts and dialogues that the student
will have learned in the first volume. Basic Czech III is based on
a communicative and comparative approach, and is suitable for
intensive study or even for self-directed study. Grammatical and
lexical topics covered in this volume go beyond the basic level,
into intermediate and even advanced language study.

This collection assembles 25 articles published by Raymond
Arveiller as ongoing addenda to "FEW XIX (Orientalia)" in the
Zeitschrift fA1/4r romanische Philologie (ZrP) between 1969 and
1996. It thus supplements "FEW XIX (Orientalia)," which was
completed in 1967 and was therefore unable to take into account
various sources explored by Arveiller in the last 30 years. As
Arveiller died in 1996, the supplements have been assembled
unchanged in a special Supplement Volume, with only obvious
printing errors emended. It was of course indispensable to compile
a new bibliography to accommodate the numerous sources newly drawn
on by the author and quoted at the beginning of the articles in the
ZrP. The bibliography also encompasses those articles by Arveiller
on oriental elements that are not listed in the ZrP addenda. The
present volume is an indispensable supplement to "FEW Vol. XIX" and
places the study of the oriental elements in Gallo-Romance studies
on a new footing in keeping with the state of present-day research.

Innovative and evidence-based, this introduction to the main
concepts and issues in language teaching uses a 'key questions'
structure, enabling the reader to understand how these questions
have been addressed by researchers previously, and how the findings
inform language teaching practices. Grounded in research, theory
and empirical evidence, the textbook provides students,
practitioners and teachers with a complete introductory course in
language teaching. Written in a clear and user-friendly style, and
avoiding use of jargon, the book draws upon real-life teaching
experiences and scenarios to provide practical advice. A glossary
of key terms, questions for discussion and further reading
suggestions are included. The book is perfectly suited to language
teaching modules on English language, TESOL and applied linguistics
courses.
This textbook provides a comprehensive and structured vocabulary
for all levels of undergraduate French courses, including relevant
higher and further education courses. It offers a broad coverage of
concrete and abstract vocabulary relating to the physical,
cultural, social, commercial and political environment, as well as
exposure to commonly encountered technical terminology. Within each
section, words and phrases have been grouped into manageable,
assimilable units and broadly 'graded' according to likely
usefulness and difficulty. The accompanying exercises for private
study and classroom use are designed to reinforce the work done on
lists, to develop good dictionary use, to encourage independent and
collaborative learning, to promote precision and awareness of
nuance and register, and to offer the opportunity for the
development of cognate transferable skills, such as communicative
competence, teamwork and problem-solving. The division of the book
into twenty thematic sections allows it to be easily integrated
into a modular course structure.
The book describes a large fragment of a grammar of German in terms
of the HPSG paradigm. On a broad empirical basis it develops a
formally explicit theory with special emphasis on various
word-order phenomena: the relatively free position of constituents
in the midfield with reference to coherent constructions,
positioning in the verb complex, initial-field occupancy, and
extraposition. The analysis of these phenomena is embedded in a
general theory of sentence structure and a discussion of relevant
formal mechanisms.
