Book Description Of Greek and Hebrew, Hebrew strikes the most fear
in the heart of the Bible student. The alphabet does not look
anything like English. The vocabulary offers almost no points of
contact with English. The verb system is utterly alien. And the
lexicons, grammars and textbooks are wrapped up in a
meta-language--spiked with Latin--that is daunting in itself. For
those who feel that studying the English Old Testament is a
challenge, the thought of reading it in Hebrew is extreme. Hebrew
students need all the help they can get. If you are beginning your
study of Hebrew and the Hebrew Bible, this pocket dictionary by
Todd J. Murphy is for you. From ablative to zaqeph qaton, it
defines the tangled terms that infest Hebrew textbooks, grammars
and lexicons. Here is a book that will deliver you from the perils
of the Piel and the thicket of metathesis. It is an indispensable
glossary that will cut through that technical language--neither
Hebrew nor English--that hovers like ground fog over the study and
discussion of biblical Hebrew. Now you can devote more time to
enjoying biblical Hebrew in all its richness.
This book is carefully designed to inform and train readers in the
techniques of content-based ESL instruction and to assist them in
developing and implementing content-based materials and programs
appropriate to their educational institutions and situations. Every
chapter presents a balance of theory and practice, focusing on a
detailed description, with clear examples of classroom practices
including information, suggestions, and instructional tools. Each
chapter addresses assessment issues as they apply to the particular
methodology described.

In this collection of aphorisms and short essays, E.M. Cioran sets
about the task of peeling off the layers of false realities with
which society masks the truth. For him, real hope lies in this
task, and thus, while he perceives the world darkly, he refuses to
give in to despair. He hits upon this ultimate truth by developing
his notion of human history and events as "a procession of
delusions," striking out at the so-called "Fallacies of Hope." By
examining the relationship between truth and action and between
absolutes, unknowables, and frauds, Cioran comes out, for once, in
favor of "being."
This book demystifies the terminology of modern courtrooms and hospitals, untangles some of the most complex examples of Latin abbreviation, and allows readers to explore the classical roots of law, medicine and the ministry.

This book investigates first language (L1) and second language (L2)
use in Chinese university classrooms, focusing on the experiences
of four Chinese EFL teachers who were teaching non-English major
students at four different proficiency levels. It examines these
four teachers' actual use of L1 and L2, including the distribution
of their L1 and L2 use; the circumstances, functions and
grammatical patterns of their language use; and their language use
across different frames of classroom discourse. It also explores
their attitudes and beliefs regarding this issue in depth, as well
as their own perceptions of and reasons for their language use and
possible influencing factors. Through its detailed analysis of the
teachers' language use, as well as their respective beliefs and
decision-making techniques, this book contributes to L2 teachers'
professional development and L2 teaching in general, especially
with regard to establishing a pedagogically principled approach to
L1 and L2 use.

constructions of modern Nepali, is to present a full description of
both the spoken and written forms of modern standard Nepali, and to
enable the student to understand, speak and read most of its

its historical sources, formal organization and social and
stylistic functions. The author examines both the relation between
social and lexical change, and attempts to intervene in the
development of the French language, as well as covering external
influences on the language, word formation, semantic change, and
style and register. Each chapter is concluded with notes for
further reading and suggestions for project work, specifically
designed to increase awareness of lexical phenomena, and enable the
student-reader to use lexicographic databases of all kinds. A
detailed index directs the reader to initial definitions of key
