Life skills is a critically important subject to teach at the Foundation Phase level as it is at this unique time in young learners' development that an important grounding for later life can be established. Never will teachers have a better opportunity to shape learners' knowledge, skills and values and to prepare them for the challenges of being a citizen of the 21st century. Focusing attention towards the Africanising of the Foundation Phase Life Skills curriculum, this book addresses the ways in which teachers can structure their inclusive classroom practices to match the fundamental elements of social responsibility and human development in order to support learners' holistic development, both as citizens of South Africa and participants in a global community. Teaching Life Skills in the Foundation Phase is based on sound pedagogical principles, providing many practical ideas to Foundation Phase teachers and student teachers (grades R-3). For easy reference between classroom practice and formal studies, this book is structured according to the CAPS Foundation Phase curriculum and focuses on the following knowledge areas: Beginning knowledge (the teaching of natural sciences, technology and social sciences); Creative arts education (the teaching of visual and performing arts); Physical education (movement); Personal and social wellbeing (addressing social issues such as sexuality education, health education, violence and abuse); Teaching Life Skills in the Foundation Phase is aimed at teachers, school managers and parents.

Asking the question is not a bad thing; it could push you to envision your potential and become a better person. Perhaps you are a teacher, parent or counselor struggling to help someone determine what stage they are at in life. They need help and guidance, but there just aren't many resources out there that spell out the difference. In this book, you'll consider 75 key words that illustrate the gap. Delve into issues such as trust, truth and pride. You'll examine what it means to be an adult in ways you never did before. It's also important to understand the myths that revolve around manhood. You don't have to be violent, a playboy or bossy to leave boyhood behind. Rather, you need the courage to throw away stereotypes. Find out the key differences between being a child and an adult, and determine whether or not you or someone you know is ready to make the leap in "The Difference Between a Boy and a Man."

From all over the world, picture book illustrators sent original images and personal messages, in postcard form, for Migrations, an exhibition at the Biennial of Illustration, Bratislava, in 2017, curated by the University of Worcester's International Centre for the Picture Book in Society. Over fifty of the cards are reproduced in this very special book. The book is divided into themes of Departures, Long Journeys, Arrivals and Hope for the Future. The facsimile postcard text includes personal messages of hope from the illustrators, as well as quotes from writers including Emily Dickinson, WB Yeats, John Clare, and Anita Desai. Robert Macfarlane has written a poem specially for the postcard drawn by Jackie Morris. Illustrators include Christopher Corr, Marie-Louise Gay, Piet Grobler, Petr Horacek, Isol, Jon Klassen, Neal Layton, PJ Lynch, Roger Mello, Jackie Morris, Jane Ray, Chris Riddell, Axel Scheffler and Shaun Tan. In total, illustrators from 28 countries have contributed. Migrations carries a powerful message about human migration, showing how cultures, ideas and aspirations flow despite borders, barriers and bans.
In this original interpretation of the "Harry Potter" sensation, Edmund M Kern argues that the attraction of these stories to children comes not only from the fantastical elements embedded in the plots, but also from their underlying moral messages. This fresh, instructive, and upbeat guide to "Harry Potter" will give parents many useful and educational suggestions for discussing the moral implications of this continuously popular series of books with their children.
