IT STANDS TO REASON THAT IF OUR FOODS ARE NOW LIGHTER AND MORE DYNAMIC, OUR WINES SHOULD BE ALSO. A longtime champion of the victimized wine consumer, Willie Gluckstern debunks the myths and misinformation surrounding the (allegedly) complex subject of wine. His straightforward advice includes:
Plus, the straight poop on oak, "the MSG of wine," a few well-chosen words for greedy restaurants and retailers ("Those bastards!"), and an unprecedented exposé of mass-market Champagne, including how to find the good stuff by cracking the secret label code. Irreverent, informative, and controversial, The Wine Avenger is indispensable for beginners as well as enthusiasts.
This book is a representation of how I view the world of cooking. I hope your minds are open for this culinary journey we are about to explore. This book is about bringing families together. As a child we had family dinners and I believe that this is something more people should return to. Keep in touch with our families and friends. Often times we only meet up at funerals or weddings. Let's bring the love back into the families, the good back into food and the joy back into life. I am a just a man on a mission to spread love through the power of great food. CHEF JAIMEUS J. BARNES

From David Chang, currently the hottest chef in the culinary world, comes this his first book, written with "New York Times" food critic Peter Meehan, packed full of ingeniously creative recipes. Already a sensational world star, Chang produces a buzzing fusion of Korean/Asian and Western cuisine, creating a style of food which defies easy categorisation. That it is fantastic, there is no doubt, and that it is eminently cookable, there is also no doubt! In the words of Chang himself, it is 'Bad pseudo-fusion cuisine'. The vibrant, urban feel of the book is teamed perfectly with clear and insightful writing that is both witty and accessible. Backed by undeniably informed technique and a clearly passionate advocation of cutting-edge fusion cooking, Chang's "Momofuku" is a stunning, no-holds barred, debut. The epitome of no-holds barred fusion food, beloved by most foodies on the planet, lauded by the likes of Anthony Bourdain and Martha Stewart...the inimitable David Chang will be over in the UK to promote the book on publication.

This early work is an interesting read for cookery enthusiasts and historians alike. A cookery book with a difference: You won't find in its pages how to make a suet pudding or how to fry fish and chips, but you will find many dishes that you may previously have thought of as 'ordinary' but which, with the help of cider, can take on a new and piquant flavour. Contents Include: Author's Note, Recipes, Drinks, Herbs and Flavourings, Growing Herbs and Their Storage, Cookery and Household Hints, Specimen Menus, Wines to Serve with Meals. Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. We are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.
When Shelley Leroux first visited her fiance's parents, they were eating hare. After her future father-in-law took one bite, he said to his wife (while still holding his knife and fork), "I wanted a Saskatchewan hare. This is an Alberta hare." While Leroux wondered if she should marry this picky man's son out of fear he would be the same, she had no idea she would soon learn how one man distinguished the difference between two hares-simply through taste. And so began Leroux's foray into the international world of cooking and tasting fabulous foods. In her collection of recipes and stories spanning more than eighty-five years, Leroux shares not only entertaining anecdotes about her life, but also simple recipes that tantalize the palate and celebrate flavors from around the world, including Belgium, Asia, and the United States. From Waterzoie de Volaille to Oriental Meatballs to Cape Cod Turkey, Leroux provides a delicious recipe for every palate-all while amusing with stories about unsuccessful dinner parties, yacht club sailboat races, the Pygmies, and vintage airplanes. The anecdotes and recipes included in "The Secret Ingredient" will encourage both novice and experienced cooks to explore international flavors right in their very own kitchens
Calera Uchigakiuchi Schlesinger, known affectionately to her family and friends as "Cal," is the adopted child of an entrepreneurial, Japanese mother and an artistic, cosmetic plastic surgeon, American father. She attends a Catholic girl's school, Sacred Hearts Academy, in Honolulu and has studied Shotokan karate for the past seven years. Cal has a cat named Burt and the sign on her bedroom door is "The Swamp," for good reason. She is an artist (she and her father, Larry, love the story of, Alice in Wonderland, and Cal's paintings based on it are pictured in this book). She and her mother, Arlene, love to cook-especially for friends and family. Cal also loves photography and took all the photos of the recipes for this book. Cal's pride in being creative also extends to the kitchen (when things don't work out quite the way a recipe said it would). As with art, so it is with food; it's very important to think creatively-and Cal's creativity has transformed meals from "doubtful" to "delicious." Through that experience she has come up with her own unique recipes to be part of something more than a simple "meal" and make it a special time with family and friends. Since in Hawaii, family is everything, Cal wanted to share some of her simple, yet delightful, recipes with other teenagers so they too can cook for their families. You're holding the result in your hands

Erma Gray is a pioneer and leader in the world of entrepreneurship-and has worked hard all of her life to be the best at anything she put her mind to. Her mother and grandmother were known and respected in the community as great cooks. Erma had no choice but to start out cooking with her mother at an early age. Her mother was a perfectionalist and Erma had to help her mother prepare the meals daily. Therefore, Erma learned how to prepare, cook, and serve her family with delicious, healthy, satisfying meals that were wholesome and yet simple for anyone to make. From Mississippi to Texas, Erma's southern soul food style cooking has made room for her with individuals, families, groups, and businesses. Erma is no stranger to the kitchen. Her phones never stop ringing after people sample a taste of Erma's cooking. You'll want to contact her for a special occasion or event. She knows how to take a simple meal and make it taste fabulously delicious. People in Dallas and Ft. Worth call Erma when they want the best and need to impress for a special occasion. My mother always told me that too much of anything can hurt or harm you. Your body was not designed to overindulge itself. I think that people try so hard to make sure that their food taste good, but, overdo it by adding too much grease, salt, sugar and extra spicy preservatives. I focus on flavor, not just on adding seasoning. There are members in my family who deal with health issues. Therefore, I cook food that everyone can eat and enjoy. The trick is knowing how to put in the right amounts of seasonings so that the food will look good and taste good. Follow me, step by step. Don't deviate, and get off course. You'll enjoy healthy cooking at its best and so will your family. Stop making people sick with salty, greasy food that is clogging up their arteries and digestive system. I want you to experience the flavor, the texture, and the taste as you bite into these wonderful meals. If you have bad teeth or no teeth at all, I want you to experience the taste of flavorful, tender meats that are mouth watering, delicious and easy to eat. Once you learn my simple recipes and simple cooking hints, you will want to prepare more meals for your entire family. Another thing that I want to address is young, newly wed couples crying out for help in the kitchen. You would be surprised to know that there are a lot of couples that cannot cook. If they don't learn how to cook, their finances will continue to decrease if they continue to eat out on a daily basis. As this cycle continues, their children will form the same habits. Remember, we are all creatures of habits. Therefore, we must work hard, but learn how to cultivate good cooking and eating habits. Erma has a variety of recipes for everyone to enjoy. She has recipes for meals that can be ready in 30 minutes or less. Also, she has included her mouth watering desserts that will stimulate your taste buds and satisfy your cravings. Erma has her favorite selections of holiday foods and tips that have made meals flavorful, attractive, and awesomely delicious. Her method of cooking combines her family's secrets with her personal style, fresh ingredients, and the formula for making every meal a success. My recipes are recommended to anyone and especially to couples that do not cook because they can't cook, but are tired of eating out all the time and would like to learn the art of successful cooking. If you learn how to cook, you can save money and spend quality time with your loved ones or friends. I especially want to focus on young married couples getting off to a good start in the kitchen. The kitchen can be a great place for unity and communication. I believe that the world would be a better place if families could come together and enjoy one another.
