This Reader aims to help students start reading original Sanskrit
literature. When we study ancient languages, there often is quite a
gap between introductory, grammar-based classes and independent
reading of original texts. This Reader bridges that gap by offering
complete grammar and vocabulary notes for 40 entertaining,
thought-provoking or simply beautiful passages from Sanskrit
narrative and epic, as well as over 130 subhasitas (epigrams).
These readings are complemented by review sections on syntax, word
formation and compounding, a 900-word study vocabulary, complete
transliterations and literal translations of all readings, as well
as supplementary online resources. The Reader can be used for
self-study and in a classroom, both to accompany introductory
Sanskrit courses and to succeed them.
This book is written for K-12 teachers and educators to understand
the school experiences and life journeys of the English Language
Learners (ELLs) through four Chinese ELLs by documenting their
transitional experiences into an American school. Traditionally,
Chinese students are perceived as the model minority in American
schools who are academically successful. Yet, this book provides a
new perspective by documenting the life journey and school
experiences of the four Chinese ELLs. The book gives a detailed
account of the four ELLs in transition from Chinese language and
culture into American school and culture. Interview, observation,
and documentary data at their homes and American school reflect
this transitional journey. The book helps K-12 teachers and
educators understand that Chinese students also come from different
family backgrounds and have different previous schooling
experiences. This will help teachers and educators better working
with Chinese and all ELLs who adapt the new school environment.
This book is reader-friendly and carefully crafted with six
chapters. Each chapter focuses on one Chinese ELL with genuine
research data. The book begins with an introduction to provide
basic information of the four ELLs and concludes with the final
chapter that provides an update on the ELL students. This book can
also be used as reading texts by college students in teacher
education and training programs. The book is targeted for the TESOL
organizations. The TESOL has one of the largest memberships with
over 12,000 members representing 156 countries (TESOL Brochure,
2017). This book also benefits various attendees of professional
education conferences.
Despite their removal from England's National Curriculum in 1988,
and claims of elitism, Latin and Greek are increasingly re-entering
the 'mainstream' educational arena. Since 2012, there have been
more students in state-maintained schools in England studying
classical subjects than in independent schools, and the number of
schools offering Classics continues to rise in the state-maintained
sector. The teaching and learning of Latin and Greek is not,
however, confined to the classroom: community-based learning for
adults and children is facilitated in newly established regional
Classics hubs in evenings and at weekends, in universities as part
of outreach, and even in parks and in prisons. This book
investigates the motivations of teachers and learners behind the
rise of Classics in the classroom and in communities, and explores
ways in which knowledge of classical languages is considered
valuable for diverse learners in the 21st century. The role of
classical languages within the English educational policy landscape
is examined, as new possibilities exist for introducing Latin and
Greek into school curricula. The state of Classics education
internationally is also investigated, with case studies presenting
the status quo in policy and practice from Australasia, North
America, the rest of Europe and worldwide. The priorities for the
future of Classics education in these diverse locations are
compared and contrasted by the editors, who conjecture what
strategies are conducive to success.

Exotic Territory: A Bilingual Anthology of Contemporary Paraguayan
Poetry seeks to address a dearth of information in the
English-speaking world about Paraguayan poetry of the past forty
years. The twelve outstanding poets included here-Jose Luis
Appleyard, Moncho Azuaga, Gladys Carmagnola, Susy Delgado, Oscar
Ferreiro, Renee Ferrer, Joaquin Morales, Amanda Pedrozo, Jacobo
Rauskin, Elvio Romero, Ricardo de La Vega, Carlos Villagra
Marsal-represent a wide diversity of themes, styles, and
perspectives in this little-known nation. Most of them have
published extensively, have been recognized through literary awards
