The Complete Guide to Physical Security (Hardcover, New): Paul R. Baker, Daniel J Benny The Complete Guide to Physical Security (Hardcover, New)
Paul R. Baker, Daniel J Benny
R3,974 Discovery Miles 39 740 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

To adequately protect an organization, physical security must go beyond the "gates, guns, and guards" mentality that characterizes most security programs. Creating a sound security plan involves understanding not only security requirements but also the dynamics of the marketplace, employee issues, and management goals. The Complete Guide to Physical Security discusses the assets of a facility people, building, and location and the various means to protect them. It emphasizes the marriage of technology and physical hardware to help those tasked with protecting these assets to operate successfully in the ever-changing world of security.

The book covers specific physical security technologies, such as intrusion detection, access control, and video surveillance systems including networked video. It addresses the reasoning behind installations, how to work with contractors, and how to develop a central station for monitoring. It also discusses government regulations for building secured facilities and SCIFs (Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities). Case examples demonstrate the alignment of security program management techniques with not only the core physical security elements and technologies but also operational security practices.

The authors of this book have nearly 50 years combined experience in the security industry including the physical security and security management arenas. Their insights provide the foundation for security professionals to develop a comprehensive approach to achieving physical security requirements while also establishing leadership roles that help further the overall mission of their organization.

R2,328 Discovery Miles 23 280 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

A practical look at extending the value of Building Information Modeling (BIM) into facility management--from the world's largest international association for professional facility managers

Building owners and facility managers are discovering that Building Information Modeling (BIM) models of buildings are deep reservoirs of information that can provide valuable spatial and mechanical details on every aspect of a property. When used appropriately, this data can improve performance and save time, effort, and money in running and maintaining the building during its life cycle. It can also provide information for future modifications. For instance, a BIM could reveal everything from the manufacturer of a light fixture to its energy usage to maintenance instructions.

"BIM for Facility Managers" explains how BIM can be linked to facility management (FM) systems to achieve very significant life-cycle advantages. It presents guidelines for using BIM in FM that have been developed by public and private owners such as the GSA. There is an extensive discussion of the legal and contractual issues involved in BIM/FM integration. It describes how COBie can be used to name, capture, and communicate FM-related data to downstream systems. There is also extensive discussion of commercial software tools that can be used to facilitate this integration.

This book features six in-depth case studies that illustrate how BIM has been successfully integrated with facility management in real-life projects at: Texas A&M Health Science CenterUSC School of Cinematic ArtsMathWork's new campusXavier UniversityState of Wisconsin FacilitiesUniversity of Chicago Library renovation

"BIM for Facility Managers" is an indispensable resource for facility managers, building owners, and developers alike.

Corporate Property Management - Aligning Real Estate With Business Strategy (Paperback): V. Edwards Corporate Property Management - Aligning Real Estate With Business Strategy (Paperback)
V. Edwards
R1,631 Discovery Miles 16 310 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

Corporate property is routinely identified as the second biggest cost within a business organization after staff. Effective management of such a major asset requires a fundamental understanding of both the operation of the property markets and the operational requirements of the business occupier.

This primer on strategic property management focuses on how property held as a corporate asset can be used to add value to the primary business activity of an organization. Rather than separate the needs of the business form the management of the business estate, the aim of Corporate Property Management is to enable the reader to directly support the primary business function through strategic management of corporate property, thereby adding value to the business as a whole.
The book introduces a generic framework designed to assist in the analysis of any corporate property portfolio, working as a practical aid to decision making. The book is structured around this framework, providing a detailed review of its application and uses. This is then developed further through extensive use of five in-depth case studies that covers a wide variety of property types and property users - Borders bookshops; Cancer Research high street shops; The Youth Hostel Association; Clifford Chance's move to Canary Wharf and the Ardtornish Rural Estate in Scotland.

Internet of Things for Facility Management - Strategies of Service Optimization and Innovation (Paperback, 1st ed. 2021): Nazly... Internet of Things for Facility Management - Strategies of Service Optimization and Innovation (Paperback, 1st ed. 2021)
Nazly Atta
R1,985 Discovery Miles 19 850 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book proposes strategies for FM services optimization and innovation, based on innovative models of IoT application and big data management within FM processes, able to support FM stakeholders in: orienting and managing big data flows and their sources (sensor, RFID, etc.); changing FM services demand/offer and developing new approaches to FM agreements; drawing new supply chains based on network approaches; and outlining new profiles of competences for FM stakeholders. The book demonstrates that FM stakeholders (e.g. Real Estate owners, FM providers, service suppliers, etc.) increasingly need new support tools for understanding the features of the current offer of innovative ICT solutions in order to become promoters of FM innovation, and it provides them with an analytical-procedural framework useful for defining and implementing IoT-based FM services.

Werner Seiferlein, Christine Kohlert
R2,762 Discovery Miles 27 620 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

People who work in an office spend at least a third of their lifetime in these spaces. The planning of office and administration buildings can therefore contribute a great deal to the satisfaction and well-being of future users. The book looks at the health-relevant factors that affect people in office and administration buildings and therefore deserve special attention in the planning process. In doing so, the authors are guided by a concept of health as defined by the World Health Organization: Accordingly, health encompasses mental as well as social and physical well-being and thus goes far beyond the factors laid down in legal norms and guidelines. In this volume, architects and designers, physicians and ergonomists deal with all aspects of interior design seen from a health perspective: What role does colour design play, what significance do light, air and noise have? What does a demand-oriented building technology look like and how is the office furniture adequately designed? Which medical and hygienic aspects have to be considered? How can offices be designed in terms of work-life balance and how will the office change in the course of digitalisation? The book serves as a guideline that can be applied chapter by chapter in the planning of health-promoting office spaces - depending on the interests of the reader. Problems that arise are discussed using examples, and checklists help you with planning and implementation. The guide is aimed at building owners, architects, engineers, but also at lawyers, psychologists and doctors as well as university members in the field of economics and engineering.

R3,045 Discovery Miles 30 450 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book present the state of the art in Total Productive Maintainance (TPM) and its benefits. The authors present a survey applied to 368 manufacturing industries in order to determine their level of execution of TPM. Then a series of causal models are presented. For each model, the authors present a measure of the dependency between the critical success factors and the benefits obtained, allowing industry managers to differentiate between essential and non-essential activities. The content also allows students and academics to obtain a theoretical and empirical basis on the importance of TPM as a lean manufacturing tool in the context of industry 4.0.

On the Fracture Behaviour and the Fracture Pattern Morphology of Tempered Soda-Lime Glass (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020): Navid... On the Fracture Behaviour and the Fracture Pattern Morphology of Tempered Soda-Lime Glass (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020)
Navid Pour-Moghaddam
R1,602 Discovery Miles 16 020 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The main criteria for assessing the load-bearing behaviour and risk potential of monolithic glass are its fragmentation and the morphology of the fragments. These depend strongly non-linearly on the strain energy density present in the glass at the time of fracture, which can be converted into fracture energy. Thus, the design and optimization of structural glazing in engineering requires both knowledge of the relevant parameters and mechanisms during the fracture process in glass and an understanding of the characteristics of the fracture structure. Based on fracture mechanics considerations and comprehensive experimental investigations, various aspects and physical quantities of fracture behaviour as well as characteristics and parameters of fracture pattern morphology of fragmented, tempered soda-lime glass were studied and correlated with the stored strain energy. The relationship between fragmentation behavior and strain energy was elaborated using the energy criterion in Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics (LEFM) related to the initial strain energy before fragmentation and in the post-fracture state. Furthermore, a machine learning inspired approach for the prediction of 2D macro-scale fragmentation of tempered glass was developed and elaborated based on fracture mechanics considerations and statistical analysis of the fracture pattern morphology. A method was deduced and applied in which the fracture pattern of tempered glass is predicted and simulated by Voronoi tessellation of point patterns based on Bayesian spatial point statistics fed with energy conditions in LEFM.

Decision Support System for the Location of Healthcare Facilities - SitHealth Evaluation Tool (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020): Marta... Decision Support System for the Location of Healthcare Facilities - SitHealth Evaluation Tool (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020)
Marta Dell'Ovo, Alessandra Oppio, Stefano Capolongo
R1,597 Discovery Miles 15 970 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The book examines an integrated approach for addressing decisions about the location of healthcare facilities. Supported by Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA), the approach provides comprehensive information on territory, taking into account the spatial dimensions. Due to the multiple criteria involved, site selection for urban facilities is a crucial topic in planning decision processes, especially for healthcare facilities. Healthcare provision policies generally fail to address the distribution of facilities within cities, entrusting decisions to various stakeholders. Moreover current evaluation tools focus on the intrinsic performances of healthcare structures, disregarding the extrinsic characteristics, namely those related to the location. Starting with a cross-disciplinary literature review, the book describes a multi-methodological approach for decision-making regarding the location of healthcare facilities, and presents an innovative evaluation tool that simultaneously considers functional, locational, environmental and economic issues, providing a comprehensive overview of the areas under investigation.
