Routledge Handbook of Academic Knowledge Circulation (Hardcover): Wiebke Keim, Leandro Rodriguez Medina, Rigas Arvanitis,... Routledge Handbook of Academic Knowledge Circulation (Hardcover)
Wiebke Keim, Leandro Rodriguez Medina, Rigas Arvanitis, Natacha Cecilia Bacolla, Chandni Basu, …
R7,065 Discovery Miles 70 650 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Knowledge is a result of never-ending processes of circulation. This accessible volume is the first comprehensive multidisciplinary work to explore these processes through the perspective of scholars working outside of Anglo-American paradigms. Through a variety of literature reviews, examples of recent research, and in-depth case studies, the chapters demonstrate that the analysis of knowledge circulation requires a series of ontological and epistemic commitments that impact its conceptualisation and methodologies. Bringing diverse viewpoints from across the globe and from a range of disciplines, including anthropology, economics, history, political science, sociology, and Science & Technology Studies (STS), this wide-ranging and thought-provoking collection offers a broad and cutting-edge overview of outstanding research on academic knowledge circulation. The book is structured in seven sections: (i) key concepts in studying the circulation of academic knowledge; (ii) spaces and actors of circulation; (iii) academic media and knowledge circulation; (iv) the political economy of academic knowledge circulation; (v) the geographies, geopolitics and historical legacies of the global circulation of academic knowledge; (vi) the relationships between academic and extra-academic knowledges; and (vii) methodological approaches to studying the circulation of academic knowledge. This handbook will be essential reading for academics, researchers and postgraduate researchers in the humanities and social sciences interested in the circulation of knowledge.

Leadership and Organizational Sustainability - The Knowledge Management Approach (Hardcover): Elia Socorro Diaz Nieto, David... Leadership and Organizational Sustainability - The Knowledge Management Approach (Hardcover)
Elia Socorro Diaz Nieto, David Israel Contreras-Medina, Roberto Tuda Rivas
R4,202 Discovery Miles 42 020 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The book presents a new type of leadership focused on sustainable human development and organizational sustainability, which is based on the self-realization of the person of the leader, which means the satisfaction of their needs, according to the scale of Abraham Maslow, through integral human development in all aspects of life. Because speaking of a leader would seem to cite any person with the authority that confers a position that has subordinates, but the reality within organizations has shown that a leader goes further, requires commitment, awareness and concern for the good. common. What person has these haracteristics? People who have had more opportunity to develop in different areas of their being, which conceives them as more educated. The person is the basis of leadership. Education and exercise are much more important than all heredity and the genetic code. This volume explores the various ways of making explicit the dimensions of social, economic, and environmental sustainability through knowledge management that addresses the identification, collection, processing, circulation, use, exchange, and preservation of knowledge within operating systems and the context of organizations. considering issues that contribute to sustainability: human and organizational, where the leader is the main actor and the means is knowledge management.

Reshore Production Now - How to Rebuild Manufacturing and Restore High Wages, High Profits, and National Prosperity in the USA... Reshore Production Now - How to Rebuild Manufacturing and Restore High Wages, High Profits, and National Prosperity in the USA (Hardcover)
William A. Levinson
R4,448 Discovery Miles 44 480 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book addresses the vital importance of reshoring US manufacturing capability to ensure economic and military security and then discusses the proven methods that the United States used to gain manufacturing supremacy in the first place. The vital takeaway is: If the job can be made sufficiently productive, the per-unit labor cost ceases to be relevant which means a business can pay high wages, realize high profits, and deliver low prices simultaneously. The contest is then not between high wages and cheap labor, but between efficiency and inefficiency and, when automation is involved, machine against machine. Readers will be able to put these principles to work very quickly to achieve tangible results. The relatively low Federal minimum wage has meanwhile become a major issue, but inflation skyrocketed in the second quarter of 2022 when higher wages, and higher demand for goods and services, were not matched with higher productivity. The book addresses the relationship between the money supply and the velocity of money to prices, wages, and productivity. A manufacturing resurgence in the United States will not only increase our standard of living enormously but generate taxable economic activity that will help pay down rather than increase the Federal debt. Higher productivity also delivers a greater supply of goods to accompany higher wages, and thus works against inflation. This can prevent looming recessions and disruptions.

John Vail Farr, Isaac J. Faber
R3,933 Discovery Miles 39 330 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The rise of the information age and the digital economy has dramatically changed engineering. With tremendous advances in computing and communication systems, causing major organizational upheaval, all fueled by complexity, globalization, short cycle times, and lean supply chains, the functions of engineers have significantly changed. Engineers must be technically savvy and have product management and costing skills all while working in a distributed and often unstable environment. This new edition textbook is updated to cover the integration of cost, risk, value, scheduling, and information technologies going beyond basic engineering economics. Engineering Economics of Life Cycle Cost Analysis, Second Edition offers a systems and life cycle or total ownership cost perspective. It presents advanced costing techniques such as simulation-based costing, decision analysis, complex systems costing, software, big data, and cloud computing estimation. Examples and problems demonstrating these techniques with real-world applications are also included. All engineers will find this book useful, but it is mainly written for systems engineers, engineering management, and industrial engineers along with graduate courses on advanced engineering economic analysis and cost management, and financial analysis for engineers. To assist with classroom teaching, the textbook provides an instructor's manual for qualified course adoption and downloadable Excel solutions.

Strategies for Supply Chain Risk Management (Hardcover): Li Yi, Ju'e Guo, Kin Keung Lai Strategies for Supply Chain Risk Management (Hardcover)
Li Yi, Ju'e Guo, Kin Keung Lai
R4,477 Discovery Miles 44 770 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Examining the negative consequences that arise from supply chain risks, such as production interruption and profit shrinkage, this book systematically explores firms' responses to these risks in different practical situations. In particular it focuses on sourcing strategies of firms under supply chain risks and the different mitigation tools they use, such as supplier development and multisourcing. Supply chains have expanded extensively as firms attempt to find new markets and cheap resources all over the world. Under the pressure of cost reduction, many firms try to take advantage of outsourcing of their raw materials and critical components. Though firms can reap significant benefits due to the globalization of supply chains and the widespread use of outsourcing, they have to deal with increasing and intensifying supply chain risks. In general, supply chain risks are various and may be originated from natural disasters, machine breakdowns, labor strikes, fires, etc. These risk incidents can cause serious damage to firms' profit performance. The analysis and insights from this book can be utilized by firms to alleviate the impact of supply chain risks in the sourcing process. It will also be of interest to researchers and students studying supply chain management.

Think Risk - A Practical Guide to Actively Managing Risk (Hardcover): Shital Thekdi, Terje Aven Think Risk - A Practical Guide to Actively Managing Risk (Hardcover)
Shital Thekdi, Terje Aven
R4,050 Discovery Miles 40 500 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Risk is the single most prevalent and enduring factor that influences every individual, organization, and society. We often seek protection from negative risk events, but also seek to take advantage of opportunities arising from positive risk events. We may feel overwhelmed by messages encountered in daily interactions with media and society, contributing to a sense of ambiguity over how to act in response to risk-related information and misinformation. We seek to leverage evidence and reason to find our own balance between both positive and negative outcomes in an uncertain world. This ground-breaking book delivers practical concepts and tools that empower readers to leverage innovations in risk science to improve their abilities to interpret, assess, communicate, and handle risk. It provides a practical non-quantitative approach to understanding risk and to making better decisions involving risk. Think RISK covers several key themes in risk science: a) The main goals and strategies for understanding and managing risk b) How readers can inform their risk stances by considering their own individual values and mission c) The difference between risk and safety, and how that difference is critical for managing risk d) The role of psychological factors when understanding and managing risk e) The role of communication when understanding and managing risk, and f) The general importance and incentives for effectively understanding and managing risk. Written for business professionals in all private and public sectors, this book will also be relevant to non-business professionals such as medical practitioners and policymakers and would be an ideal fit for executive education and seminar-style courses in universities, corporate books clubs and training seminars. Because it's based on foundational and scientifically accepted ideas and principles, the book should remain relevant for many years.

This book is the eighth volume in a series entitled "Contemporary Logistics in China," authored by researchers from the Logistics Research Center at Nankai University. In the spirit of the seven preceding annual volumes, this book carries on the ideal of providing a systematic exposition on the logistics development in China for the English-speaking community at large. Specially, this volume captures China's logistics development at a crucial turning point. This present report consists of ten chapters, organized into three sections. The introductory section, consisting of three chapters, depicts the current development status of the logistics market, the logistics facilities and technology, and the regional logistics market. The second section addresses the logistics characteristics of four rapidly expanding industries in China-the third-party logistics, the highway logistics, the express logistics, and the multimodal transport. The final section, consisting of three chapters, discusses some hot logistics topics in China. Chapter 8 studies the capital operation in China's logistics industry. The next chapter deals with the development of intelligent logistics in China. The last chapter of this section presents the development of regional logistics along the Belt and Road routes. As with the previous volumes, the ultimate aim of this book is to present a timely portrait of the rapid growth of China's logistics market and the status quo of its logistics industry. In so doing, the book offers an in-depth analysis of critical issues involved in the ongoing dynamic and multi-faceted development, and provides a valuable reference resource for interested readers in the academic and professional fields.
