Sonography has emerged as a substantial diagnostic tool today. This handbook aims to cover ultrasound physics, abdominal and obstetric sonography, color Doppler, high resolution sonography and USG guided interventions with multiple choice questions and case reports for practical orientation.
This book is a comprehensive guide to the use of modern radiation therapy techniques for prostate cancer and other common and rare genitourinary malignancies. It will be an ideal resource for clinicians and trainees wishing to delve more deeply into the practical and technical aspects of radiotherapy for these malignancies and will serve to enhance day-to-day management in clinical practice. The first section is devoted to prostate cancer and includes coverage of low dose rate and high dose rate brachytherapy, conventionally fractionated, moderately hypofractionated, and ultra-hypofractionated external beam radiotherapy, and proton therapy. The second section focuses on radiotherapy considerations in relation to bladder cancer, testicular cancer, renal cell carcinoma, and rare malignancies such as penile cancer and urethral cancer. Radiotherapeutic treatment of patients with genitourinary malignancies now involves unprecedented precision and complexity, and this book will enable readers to exploit fully the exciting advances that have been achieved in recent years.
Radioembolization is a widely used treatment for non-resectable primary and secondary liver cancer. This handbook addresses the radiation biology, physics, nuclear medicine, and imaging for radioembolization using Yttrium-90 (90Y) microspheres, in addition to discussing aspects related to interventional radiology. The contents reflect on and off-label treatment indications, dose-response relationships, treatment-planning, therapy optimization, radiation safety, imaging follow-up and many other facets of this therapy necessary for both novice and advanced users alike.
In "Avoiding Errors in Radiology: Case-Based Analysis of Causes and PreventiveStrategies," the authors provide 118 real-life examples of interpretation errorsand wrong decisions from both diagnostic and interventional radiology. Ineach case, the authors discuss in detail the context in which the errors weremade, the resulting complications, and strategies for future prevention. Thecases are organized by body region, beginning with the cranium and thenmoving to cases of the breast, chest and abdomen, spinal column, musculoskeletaland vascular systems. Features: 118 case studies facilitate analysis and discussion of causes of errors and offer preventive strategies to transfer into daily practice 956 high-quality images and explanatory drawings illustrate the cases and pinpoint errors of interpretation and in decision making "Avoiding Errors in Radiology" is a must-have reference for anyone involved ininterpreting images for diagnosis and in making decisions in interventionalradiology.

Intraoperative electron radiation therapy (IOERT) is an advanced technique that permits the precise delivery of radiotherapy for the treatment of cancer. IOERT complements the surgical procedure by providing an additional biological treatment margin, and can be used in the treatment of unresected cancer, residual neoplastic disease or tumor bed areas at high risk of recurrence. This atlas comprehensively documents the techniques involved in IOERT and the positive long-term results that can be achieved in patients with a variety of tumors, including head and neck, gastrointestinal and gynecological cancers, pediatric cancers, and sarcomas. The didactic, case solution approach, supplemented by many detailed and informative illustrations, serves to demonstrate the high value of IOERT in different contexts. This book will be invaluable to all specialists in cancer treatment, including surgeons.
In spite of years of clinical research and trials of a variety of new and promising therapies, cancer remains as a major cause of morbidity and mortality. Use of ionizing radiation in treatment of cancer quickly followed the discovery of X-rays and radioactivity at the dawn of the last century. The limited success of radiotherapy has been attributed to several factors if which the intrinsic radioresistance of tumor cells, their fast reproduction, and tumor hypoxia are the major causes.
"Cancer Radiotherapy Protocols" gives a timely account of modern radiotherapy planning, an important tool in the armory of oncologists who manage patients with cancer. Leading experts in the field explain how to plan the radiotherapy of cancer patients across the range of tumor sites. Bringing an original approach, the book not only describes a method for delivery of radiotherapy, but also the notes on problems encountered and methods to overcome these problems. The text provides a reference for, and is particularly focused on, radiation oncologists in training and will be of use for established radiation oncologists and for radiographers and physicists as well. This volume supports the training and development of radiotherapy skills in an up to date, precise and safe manner. |
