support children in developing a clear and fluent style of writing.
Using precursive and cursive handwriting styles, the programme
progresses from introducing the movements and patterns needed to
form letters, through to the development of a personal style.
Through the workbook, children explore different contexts in which
a well-formed handwriting style plays an important part. They are
asked to use both print and joined styles to transform material
from a range of curricula and everyday situations for presentation
to others. By this stage, children will be developing at least
three handwriting styles: 1. A neat, 'best form 2. A speedier and
sometimes less neat form 3. A clear, well-formed print style

This book 'Queen Summer Or The Tourney Of The Lily And The Rose'
was written and illustrated by Walter Crane and originally
published in 1891. In the form of an epic poem about the
allegorical figure Queen Summer its extensive colour illustrations
are enchantingly neoclassical in style. The book is similar to some
of Crane's masques which he wrote to be performed by the Arts and
Crafts Guild and some of which are also published by Pook Press.
Many of the earliest children's books, particularly those dating
back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and
increasingly expensive. Pook Press are working to republish these
classic works in affordable, high quality, colour editions, using
the original text and artwork so these works can delight another
generation of children. About the Illustrator: Walter Crane
(1845-1915) was one of the earliest contributors to children's
literature and one of the most influential illustrators in the
development of children's colour picture books. Crane began working
for Edmund Evans in 1864 producing bright, colourful books which
revolutionised the type of children's books available. He created a
series of 'Toy Books' between 1865-1875 which contained fairy
stories, nursery rhymes and other tales of adventures. His Arts and
Crafts illustrations came to typify children's books for decades to
come.
A friendly and inspiring introduction to art history, telling the
stories of the world's greatest paintings and artists from
prehistory to the modern day The Story of Paintings begins with the
cave paintings of our Stone Age ancestors and continues through to
the modern day. Mick Manning and Brita Granstroem take your on a
tour of their personally selected gallery which showcases the work
of some of the world's most famous artists and few a less
well-known ones. The artists featured include van Eyck, da Vinci,
Bruegel, Rembrandt, Velazquez, JMW Turner, Van Gogh, Monet,
Matisse, Georgia O'Keefe, Picasso, Frida Kahlo and Jackson Pollock
as well as Dame Laura Knight and Kalan Khan. The friendly text and
illustrations help children to appreciate the art, highlighting
interesting biographical details and picking out key details to
spot. The book's large format means the art is reproduced on a
wonderfully impactful scale. This really is a book to give and
treasure. The creative team of Mick Manning and Brita Granstroem
are well-known for their ground breaking children's information
books. Their many awards range the TES Information Book Award for
What's Under the Bed? and the English Association Non-fiction award
for Charlie's War Illustrated.
