The Urinary Sediment - An Integrated View (Hardcover, 2nd Revised edition): Giovanni Fogazzi, Claudio Ponticelli, Eberhard Ritz The Urinary Sediment - An Integrated View (Hardcover, 2nd Revised edition)
Giovanni Fogazzi, Claudio Ponticelli, Eberhard Ritz
R8,514 Discovery Miles 85 140 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This is the second edition of a full colour reference atlas published first to excellent reviews in 1994. Every renal unit needs to have a reference text of this kind and urine microscopy is an important diagnostic aid in nephrology. After the 'Historical Introduction' by J Stewart Cameron, chapter 1 descibes the methods used to prepare and analyse the urine samples. Chapter 2, which is the most important section of the book, describes with the help of 249 illustrations (over 200 in full colour) the elements of the urinary sediment. Chapter 3 deals with the urinary sediment of the normal subject, while chapter 4 deals with the urinary changes which are observed in the main diseases of the kidney and urinary tract. Chapter 5 describes the changes of the urinary sediment caused by drugs. Chapter 6 is about the interpretation of the urinary findings shown in the previous chapters. Chapter 7 covers the new systems to analyse the urinary sediments. An appendix shows how to adjust the microscope to analyse the urine specimens. The primary audience is practising nephrologists and nephrologists in training, and also those in internal medicine rotating through the renal unit who perform routinely the analysis of the urinary sediment. Clinical pathologists would also find this an attractive and useful book. The illustrations are outstanding and additional clinical information has been added in this new edition. From review from the Lancet of the first edition in comparison with a competing title: 'Every nephrologist knows and teaches that urine microscopy is an important diagnostic aid. What has been urgently needed is a colour guide to the subject.....I preferred the pictures in the European book. They were of high quality, not repetitive and with clear legends...if I wanted to teach myself.. then the European book was well ahead. The latter is also accompanied by an elegant introductory essay by JS Cameron on the history of urine analysis. Every renal unit needs at least one of these books.' The Lancet

Prostate MRI Essentials - A Practical Guide for Radiologists (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020): Temel Tirkes Prostate MRI Essentials - A Practical Guide for Radiologists (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020)
Temel Tirkes
R3,033 Discovery Miles 30 330 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book is a basic, practical guide to performing and interpreting state-of-the-art prostate MRI, utilizing the latest guidelines in the field. Prostate MRI has become one of the fastest growing examinations in the radiology practice, and this demand has continuously increased within the past decade. Since it is relatively new, MRI of the prostate is predominantly being performed at academic institutions, however there is a growing demand within the lower-tier health care institutions to offer this examination to their patients. This is an ideal guide for radiologists who want to enhance or initiate prostate MRI service for their referring clinicians and as a manual for technologists and those who are in training. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in men, exceeded only by lung cancer. The best predictor of disease outcome lies with correct diagnosis, which requires precise imaging and diagnostic procedures aided by prostate MRI. Urologists, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists all agree that multi-parametric prostate MRI is essential for evaluation of prostate cancer. However, the technical aspects of prostate MR imaging are not as straightforward as for the other imaging modalities and constantly evolving. Its small size presents a real challenge to the radiologist, who needs to do the T2 and diffusion weighted images and perform a dynamic contrast enhanced sequence correctly. These images may also need to be analyzed on an independent workstation. Due to the absence of a current reference manual, when a radiologist wants to establish a prostate imaging service, he/she needs to attend dedicated prostate MR workshops or dive into the literature search alone, only to get more confused about what to do and how to do it. With this book, expert authors were asked to give clear guidance to those who want to enhance or initiate their prostate imaging service. With this much-needed, concise, practical guidance, radiologists can perform and interpret multi-parametric prostate MRI in a standardized fashion, in concordance with PI-RADS v2.1 that can be applicable to all available hardware platforms (GE, Philips, Siemens, Toshiba). Additionally, they can perform post-processing for possible targeted biopsy and interpret post-therapy and PET studies. The book discusses imaging protocols (planning and prescription) and sequence parameters with representative images for each MRI sequence. This handbook-style practical manual can be used in the radiology reading room by those interpreting the MR exam as a reference as well as at the MRI scanner by the technologists as a guide. Coverage of basic prostate anatomy, pathology, Urologists' point of view, MRI guided radiation treatment planning and molecular imaging is also included. Throughout the book, authors will discuss basics, pitfalls, and provide tips in image acquisition and interpretation, alongside several case examples.

Pelvic Floor Exercises for Erectile Dysfunction (Paperback): G Dorey Pelvic Floor Exercises for Erectile Dysfunction (Paperback)
G Dorey
R1,539 Discovery Miles 15 390 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This text reaches beyond the boundaries of mainstream physiotherapy into a novel area for physiotherapists and nurses. It provides information on the prevalence and risk factors for erectile dysfunction, the anatomy and physiology of normal erectile function and the role played by the pelvic floor muscles in men. A successful randomised controlled trial exploring pelvic floor muscle exercises and manometric biofeedback for both erectile dysfunction and post-micturition dribble is clearly reported. This is the first time that erectile dysfunction has been associated with post-micturition dribble due to poor pelvic floor musculature.

The discussion covering each aspect of the trial adds knowledge to a poorly researched subject. This book provides professionals with first-line treatment guidance based on evidence for the well-being of men with erectile dysfunction and their partners. It should be of interest to all professionals working in the area of urology.

Sexual health problems are being increasingly raised by patients across many other health specialties. Hence an increasing number of practitioners are needing to understand the psychological issues underlying sexual health.

With contributions from experts around the world, this book addresses a wide range of issues including sexually transmitted diseases, sexual abuse, rape, abortion and genetic counselling.
