Surgical Guide to Circumcision (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2012): David A. Bolnick, Martin Koyle,... Surgical Guide to Circumcision (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2012)
David A. Bolnick, Martin Koyle, Assaf Yosha
R3,346 Discovery Miles 33 460 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Surgical Guide to Circumcision is a compendium of the who, what, where, why, and most importantly, the how of circumcision. Given that one third of the world's males have undergone this most ancient of surgical procedures, a contemporary resource on the subject is in order. Most circumcisions are elective with no acute medical necessity; that is, most are done for cultural reasons. Thus, in addition to being a standard surgical guide for those who perform circumcision, this book is an anthology of circumcision, from its prehistoric roots to its present day admixture of religion, culture, and medicine. Surgical Guide to Circumcision is a fully illustrated, step-by-step guide to the most common techniques of circumcision and addresses aspects such as informed consent, religious and cultural sensitivities, pre-exam, post-care, pain control, and prevention and management of potential complications. Written by experts in the field, Surgical Guide to Circumcision will appeal to family physicians, pediatricians, obstetricians, midwives, nurses, urologist, and anyone with a general interest in circumcision.

Immune Infertility - The Impact of Immune Reactions on Human Infertility (Paperback, 2009 ed.): Walter K. H. Krause, Rajesh K.... Immune Infertility - The Impact of Immune Reactions on Human Infertility (Paperback, 2009 ed.)
Walter K. H. Krause, Rajesh K. Naz
R5,390 Discovery Miles 53 900 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Infertility is defned as the inability to conceive after having unprotected intercourse for a year. Infertility is increasing worldwide and has various causes both in the male and the female partner. Immune reactions to sperm can contribute up to 2-30% of infertility. The sperm has both autoantigenic as well as isoantigenic potential, and is thus capable of p- ducing antisperm antibodies (ASAs) and sperm-reactive T cells in both infertile men and women. Also, over 75% vasectomized men produce autoantibodies to sperm that can cause a problem in regaining fertility even after successful re-anastomosis in vasovasostomy. Early claims regarding the incidence and involvement of ASAs in involuntary human infertility were probably overemphasized because of unreliable techniques and naivety concerning the complexity of the immune response and antigenic nature of the sperm cell. These factors, the lack of well-designed and controlled experimental studies, and the dearth of effective therapeutic modalities resulted in the confusion of the occurrence and importance of ASAs in human infertility. Consequently, evaluation of infertile couples for ASAs and their possible role in infertility was not considered a signifcant proposition. The development of more accurate assays and the discovery of mucosal immunity capable of responses independent of systemic immunity have caused inclusion of sperm cells and genital tract secretions in the analysis of ASAs.

Multidisciplinary Management of Prostate Cancer - The Role of the Prostate Cancer Unit (Paperback, 2014): Vincenzo Gentile,... Multidisciplinary Management of Prostate Cancer - The Role of the Prostate Cancer Unit (Paperback, 2014)
Vincenzo Gentile, Valeria Panebianco, Alessandro Sciarra
R1,946 Discovery Miles 19 460 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Prostate cancer is the most common neoplasm in men and its management is very complex, in terms of both diagnosis and treatment. In recent years the value of multidisciplinary management within a prostate cancer unit has been increasingly recognized. Such a multidisciplinary approach within a specialized unit involves a variety of specialists, including urologists, oncologists, radiotherapists, radiologists and pathologists. This book describes in detail the advantages of multidisciplinary management of prostate cancer. It opens by explaining the nature of the required multidisciplinary team and the potential benefits of the prostate cancer unit as a structure for the delivery of specialist multidisciplinary care. Epidemiological aspects favoring multidisciplinary management are described and each element of care within the context of the prostate cancer unit is then discussed; also has been described the role of advanced imaging (Multiparametric MRI) in the management of PCa. Early diagnosis, risk classification, treatment decision making, surgery, radiotherapy, medical therapies and health care support are all fully considered. This book will be informative and enlightening for all who are involved in the management of patients with prostate cancer. "

Practical Urology in Spinal Cord Injury (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 1991): Keith F. Parsons, John M.... Practical Urology in Spinal Cord Injury (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 1991)
Keith F. Parsons, John M. Fitzpatrick
R1,444 Discovery Miles 14 440 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

In keeping with the aims of other books in this Series the Editors have concentrated on the practical aspects of management -in this case of the urinary tract in patients with spinal cord injury. It is well accepted that the management of such patients is best done by those with special experience in this field. Nevertheless, it is essential that urologists should be well informed on matters relating to the neuropathic urinary tract since not all patients will be managed in special centres and, whether their problems are acute or chronic, the wrong clinical decision can lead them into a lifetime of problems. The plan of this book is directed towards examining particular problems and providing definitive answers. Even in this enlightened age of medical progress there are many clinical situations where there is often a choice of treatment. Readers of this Series will be aware that, despite an apparent abundance of information on a topic, it is sometimes not possible to reach a firm conclusion on a management problem. Keith Parsons and John Fitzpatrick are to be congratulated on ensuring that for this subject there are good clear guidelines. The data in the book are up to date and the excellent approach to the subject makes it a valuable addition to Clinical Practice in Urology.

Spermatogenesis - Fertilization - Contraception - Molecular, Cellular and Endocrine Events in Male Reproduction (Paperback,... Spermatogenesis - Fertilization - Contraception - Molecular, Cellular and Endocrine Events in Male Reproduction (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 1992)
E. Nieschlag; Edited by (associates) S Nieschlag; Edited by Ursula F. Habenicht
R2,834 Discovery Miles 28 340 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Investigations into the mechanisms of spennatogenesis, sperm matura tion and fertilization provide the basis of our understanding of male re productive physiology. Since in recent years molecular and cellular en docrinology has provided particularly important contributions to our knowledge, the European Workshops on Molecular and Celluar Endo crinology of the Testis, held regularly during even years since 1980, have become a prominent forum for researchers in the field to discuss recent findings and exchange new ideas. The most recent of these Testis Workshops, the 7th, was held on May 5 - 10, 1992 at Castle Elmau in the Bavarian Alps. The main lectures of this Workshops form the core of this book. In order to provide a broader view of the current status of male re production research, this volume also contains the proceedings of the Schering Foundation Workshop on "Basic Mechanisms of Reproduc tion and Male Fertility Control" which was held in Berlin on October 31 to November 2, 1991. The topics of the two meetings were planned to complement each other. By combining the proceedings of both workshops, it became possible to produce a book that covers a wide spectrum of current highlights in male reproduction research and pro vides the reader with an up-to-date review of the field. The timeliness of the book is emphasized by the fact that it was al ready available when the 7th European Testis Workshop took place.
