We live in an era of personalized medicine and the knowledge about
pathophysiology of diffuse gastric cancer has had many advances.
Thus, the role of this work is to clarify what is new from
diagnosis to treatment of this disease in order to treat patients
in the most tailored manner as possible. Almost all phase III
trials in gastric cancer have been performed without taking in
consideration histologic subtypes, i.e. they have disregarded the
differences between diffuse gastric cancer and general gastric
cancer. However, the clinical practice reveals that diffuse gastric
cancer is a completely distinct disease, with an aggressive course
and generally worse prognosis. The loss of cohesion between tumor
cells due to the loss of E-cadherin synthesis is the critical point
on the oncogenesis of diffuse gastric cancer and is at the root of
its marked heredity. This book intends to give special attention to
Diffuse Gastric Cancer as a particular oncological entity,
differentiating it from general gastric cancer, exploring and
discussing all its peculiarities, and addressing the basic aspects
(pathology and genetics) along with the most recent therapeutic
alternatives for this condition.

This book reviews the latest advances in treating ulcerative
colitis. Its structure is designed to reflect the natural
presentation of the disease; accordingly, it starts with the
symptoms and the clinical picture, before addressing the use of
radiological and endoscopic studies that are performed to make a
diagnosis, and the role of the pathological examination. The book
also includes detailed information on the medical treatment of the
disease, written by some of the most expert gastroenterologists in
the field, while also paying considerable attention to the latest
medical treatments and to expected future developments. The book
describes various surgical techniques for ulcerative colitis in
detail, providing readers with concrete guidelines on which is the
most appropriate operation to perform in any given case. It also
presents extensive information on the most important operation, the
formation of the IPAA (ileal pouch-anal anastomosis), together with
helpful tips and tricks. A closing chapter addresses the long-term
complications that can occur after a pouch formation, and what to
do for each case. As such, the book offers a unique and
comprehensive guide for surgeons, gastroenterologists, researchers
and students alike.
Surgery has traditionally been the standard of care for the
treatment of neoplastic lesions in the gastrointestinal tract. With
advances in endoscopic resection techniques, there has been a
paradigm shift in how to approach many of these precancerous and
early cancerous lesions. Potential advantages of endoscopic
resection include its minimally invasiveness which often translates
into quicker patient recovery. In recent years, there have been
major strides in safety and efficacy of minimally invasive
endoscopic approaches with ongoing advances in therapeutic
endoscopy. Advanced Techniques for Endoscopic Resection in the GI
Tract by Drs. Peter V. Draganov, Takuji Gotoda, and Dennis J. Yang
provides an in-depth analysis of the current state of advanced
endoscopic techniques for the evaluation and resection in the
gastrointestinal tract. Each chapter in the book addresses specific
topics such as: - Endoscopic evaluation of lesions - Technical
aspects of the procedure - Management of adverse events -
Post-procedural care and follow-up Advanced Techniques for
Endoscopic Resection in the GI Tract provides a comprehensive
review of all the different aspects of advanced endoscopic
resection in the gastrointestinal tract which makes it ideal for
interventional GI endoscopists and general gastroenterologists, as
well as surgeons.
Endoscopic access to the small intestine has long presented a
challenge to physicians. This book describes the principles,
insertion technique, and clinical applications of double-balloon
