Multicultural Organizations in Asia (Hardcover): Heidi Dahles, Loh Wei Leng Multicultural Organizations in Asia (Hardcover)
Heidi Dahles, Loh Wei Leng
R3,985 Discovery Miles 39 850 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

A new study of how Asian Pacific organizations and private enterprises are expanding into markets beyond their national bases by transforming themselves in multinational and transnational directions. It shows how multicultural relations are fundamental to such shifts. It explains the organizational processes that characterize economic restructuring and the transgression of state borders by organizations seeking economic opportunities. It shows how these ambitions require boundaries to be overcome both inside and outside of organizations. This study also details the trend towards fluidity and complexity of boundaries - both physical and symbolic - within and without of organizations due to the speeding up of key processes. This, however, does not imply that boundaries are disappearing. Organizational change always challenges identities and sets new targets for this very identification. Mergers, acquisitions and strategic alliances all generate new organizational forms and necessitate the redefinition and renegotiation of organizational boundaries. The manifold ways in which organizational boundaries are affected by economic restructuring and at the same time affect social processes within and between organizations, in particular in the context of the booming economies of the Asia Pacific area is the focus of this volume. This book was previously published as a special issue of the Asian Pacific Business Review.

Leadership and Management in Organisations (Paperback): Elearn Leadership and Management in Organisations (Paperback)
Elearn
R1,563 Discovery Miles 15 630 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

John Kotter of the Harvard Business School is one of a number of experts who believe that organisations are over managed and under led, at least partially because people do not appreciate the differences between management and leadership. We start this book by challenging mental models of leadership and management. Agility has become a prerequisite for organisations in a business environment that is characterised by change. Two trends in particular have been evident. First hierarchical systems of management are yielding to a new leadership movement which has at its core shared vision and individual empowerment in place of consistency and control. Second, leadership is no longer the preserve of those in positions in the management hierarchy. Increasingly it is dispersed through the organisation. By developing awareness of these and other influential trends, those who have a responsibility for leading and managing in some form will be better equipped to flex their style and to play the diverse roles required of the managerial leader in contemporary organisations.

RFID Metrics - Decision Making Tools for Today's Supply Chains (Hardcover): William Oliver Hedgepeth RFID Metrics - Decision Making Tools for Today's Supply Chains (Hardcover)
William Oliver Hedgepeth
R3,386 Discovery Miles 33 860 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

In today's hyper-competitive business climate, organizations are always under pressure to adapt to new technological trends or "hot" business process models. Radio frequency identification (RFID) is one such trend that promises to revolutionize logistical systems and provide total-lifecycle tracking of products. However, blindly adopting RFID technology without thoroughly considering its impact is just as dangerous as not adopting it at all. Based on the author's experience testing and implementing RFID technology in both industrial and military cases, RFID Metrics: Decision Making Tools for Today's Supply Chains explains how to evaluate the need for this technology. The author focuses on the problems RFID is meant to solve, if such problems exist in your organization, and the metrics you can use to make effective decisions. After establishing what RFID is and how it fits into the systems concept, the book discusses current RFID applications around the world, reveals key metrics for decision making as well as how to develop new metrics unique to RFID, demonstrates a war game for exploring RFID, and presents statistical methods for analyzing the data collected from the war games or gathered during implementation. While other books focus on the nuts and bolts of the technology, RFID Metrics is the first book to outline a detailed method for analyzing and deciding if RFID is right for your organization.

Service Oriented Enterprises (Hardcover): Setrag Khoshafian Service Oriented Enterprises (Hardcover)
Setrag Khoshafian
R3,730 Discovery Miles 37 300 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Extending beyond the technical architecture to the very philosophy of how a business should operate, the Service Orientation approach establishes fluidity across boundaries to provide agility, transparency, and fundamental competitive advantage. Service Oriented Enterprises brings the concept of service orientation from the IT department to the boardroom, applying the precepts of service oriented technology to the underlying dynamics of how a business operates. Implementing a technological concept as a cultural paradigm, the SOE succeeds by combining the best features from virtual, extended, real-time, and resilient enterprises to serve not just its customers, but also its trading partners, shareholders and employees. Building primarily on the success of the Internet and the automation of business policies and processes, the Service Oriented Enterprise (SOE) is defined by three essential layers: the enterprise performance layer, the business process management layer, and the underlying service oriented architecture. This book focuses primarily on layers two and three and how the fundamental dynamics of a business can be altered when these concepts are applied to both architecture and culture. Beginning with an overview of the emerging SOE culture, the text contrasts the new service-oriented methodologies with traditional waterfall and iterative methodologies. Emphasizing Web Service strategies for description, discovery, and deployment techniques, the author goes deeper into service-oriented concepts describing the business process management suite as the central core of the SOE, and introducing the Enterprise Service Bus as the backbone for integration. The text describe how modeling, executing, and continuously improving the business process and business policies lends to the development of a common language between business and IT. The book concludes by expanding on these concepts and delving into the societal and behavioral aspects of the Service

Strategic and Organizational Change - From Production to Retailing in UK Brewing 1950-1990 (Hardcover): Alistair Mutch Strategic and Organizational Change - From Production to Retailing in UK Brewing 1950-1990 (Hardcover)
Alistair Mutch
R3,990 Discovery Miles 39 900 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

The brewing industry, through its network of public houses, has a profound impact on the lives of much of the population of United Kingdom. This book explores the shaping of the industry in the years from 1950-1990, showing how the industry has moved from being largely concerned with the technical issues of production to being a key part of the retail industries.
Utilizing resources drawn from theoretical traditions such as critical realism and new institutionalism "Strategic and Organizational Change "demonstrates the considerable differences between major companies in the industry and the ways in which they have adopted a retailing approach. At the heart of the book is an exploration of the relationship between managerial choice and the structural constraints and opportunities in which that choice was exercised. Using a much more historical approach than is normally met with in accounts of organizational strategy, the book draws on extensive archival material.
"Strategic and Organizational Change" suggests new ways of thinking about organizational strategizing in its context. Showing how ideas drawn from traditions like critical realism can be applied, the book provides a new model of how history can inform the analysis of organizational strategy. Above all Alistair Mutch presents a fascinating story of change in an industry which is taken for granted, but whose actions affect, for good or ill, the lives of millions.

Simon Moore, Mike Seymour
R3,085 Discovery Miles 30 850 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Changes in information technology have created a new and highly volatile environment for modern companies. One of the areas most affected is in crisis management. Companies are more open to hostile or anti-corporate activity, while needing to be responsive in the way they react to the variety of threats which new technology brings. These trends make companies vulnerable in many different ways, and ensure that in future, crises pack more punch, do more damage and do it faster.

It is also at the heart of planning for and managing crisis, either to manage or shape information or to expedite management attempts to solve problems and respond quickly, while rebuilding corporate and product reputation.

If you manage inventory, you probably use MRPII, a system based on a push method that embraces work and purchase order execution. MRPII helps you plan and integrate data relevant to your entire organization. But, when you have shifts in demand, you have to: 1) Realign and cancel hundreds of open manufacturing and purchase orders, and then 2) issue new orders. Another system, kanban, is designed specifically to replenish inventory in just-in-time manufacturing. As consumption occurs, the kanban manual system triggers replenishment signals to the source of supply, so that both production and the supplier are constantly reacting to actual consumption. Compared to MRPII, kanban lowers inventory and minimizes shortages. But the manual process of recalculating every part number by hand, and triggering replenishment by faxing or calling suppliers, is time consuming and non-value-adding. Automating kanban by blending the planning strength of MRPII with manual kanban pull methods enhances your flexibility and competitive position. MRP's forward projection capability is used to: recalculate kanban lot size. perform a simulation to protect against non-linear demand. inform production areas and suppliers of the anticipated demand levels for resource planning. calculate staffing requirements for flexible work cells. This system: Automatically recalculates and triggers replenishment. Integrates suppliers into the manufacturing loop. Uses bar codes to enhance speed and accuracy of the receipt process. Before moving in this direction, preparatory work is required. Work cells should be constructed with material located at the point of use. Container options and transportation methods need to be selected, kanban lot size calculations, and work cell staffing modules to develop. This book will help you deal with these and other topics. You will be able to take advantage of the author's expertise in the design, implementation and evaluation of these systems.
