Die respiratorische Insuffizienz stellt eines der zentralen Probleme des Patienten auf der Intensivstation dar. Durch Verbesserung der Technik in der maschinellen Beatmung und in den augmentierenden Verfahren sowie in der medikamentoesen Therapie ist es in den letzten Jahren gelungen, grosse Fortschritte in der Behandlung dieser Patienten zu erzielen. Im Band 5 des Intensivmedizinischen Seminars sind die wichtigsten Vortrage der 11. Wiener Intensivmedizinischen Tage, deren Hauptthema die Beatmung war, dargestellt.
