Xiaofeng Wu, Matthias Beller
R5,843 Discovery Miles 58 430 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

The series Topics in Current Chemistry Collections presents critical reviews from the journal Topics in Current Chemistry organized in topical volumes. The scope of coverage is all areas of chemical science including the interfaces with related disciplines such as biology, medicine and materials science. The goal of each thematic volume is to give the non-specialist reader, whether in academia or industry, a comprehensive insight into an area where new research is emerging which is of interest to a larger scientific audience. Each review within the volume critically surveys one aspect of that topic and places it within the context of the volume as a whole. The most significant developments of the last 5 to 10 years are presented using selected examples to illustrate the principles discussed. The coverage is not intended to be an exhaustive summary of the field or include large quantities of data, but should rather be conceptual, concentrating on the methodological thinking that will allow the non-specialist reader to understand the information presented. Contributions also offer an outlook on potential future developments in the field.

Discrimination of Mobile Supramolecular Chirality - Acylative Molecular Transformations by Organocatalysis (Hardcover, 1st ed.... Discrimination of Mobile Supramolecular Chirality - Acylative Molecular Transformations by Organocatalysis (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2022)
Ayumi Imayoshi
R4,668 Discovery Miles 46 680 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book proposes a novel concept for molecular recognition. In the field of asymmetric synthesis approaching the mature science, asymmetric discrimination and catalytic synthesis of chiral supramolecules still stand as unsolved problems. The extreme difficulty in asymmetric synthesis of such supramolecules may result from the mobile nature of supramolecular chirality. Here the author shows the first highly enantioselective synthesis of mechanically chiral supramolecules. In the presence of a chiral organocatalyst, a mechanically planar chiral rotaxane was obtained with p erfect enantiopurity (>99% ee) with an excellent selectivity. The dynamic and flexible recognition mode enabled asymmetric synthesis of supramolecules with conformational flexibility and mobility. The recognition mode of the catalyst is a contrast to the traditional static and rigid recognition mode of the typical conventional catalysts. The concept of dynamic molecular recognition will be adopted as a novel concept in a wide range of fields beyond the field of organic chemistry, including material chemistry, biochemistry, and medicinal chemistry.

Strategies and Tactics in Organic Synthesis provides a forum for investigators to discuss their approach to the science and art of organic synthesis. Rather than a simple presentation of data or a secondhand analysis, this classic provides stories that vividly demonstrate the power of the human endeavor known as organic synthesis and the creativity and tenacity of its practitioners. Firsthand accounts of each project tell of the excitement of conception, the frustration of failure, and the joy experienced when either rational thought or good fortune gives rise to the successful completion of a project. This book series shows how synthesis is really done. Readers will be educated, challenged, and inspired by these accounts, which portray the idea that triumphs do not come without challenges. This innovative approach also helps illustrate how challenges to further advance the science and art of organic synthesis can be overcome, driving the field forward to meet the demands of society by discovering new reactions, creating new designs, and building molecules with atom and step economies that provide functional solutions to create a better world.

J Gawronski
R7,836 Discovery Miles 78 360 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

The many exciting advances made in asymmetric synthesis over the past two decades have been due, in great part, to applications of tartaric and malic acid derivatives. Because of their unparalleled usefulness in synthesizing nonracemic acyclic and heterocyclic compounds, tartaric and malic acids are now considered indispensable "tools of the trade" for chemists working in natural products, fine chemicals, and pharmaceutical research.
Tartaric and Malic Acids in Synthesis provides chemists with a concise, yet comprehensive, review of the chemical properties and synthetic applications of derivatives of tartaric and malic acids. Intended as a source of information and inspiration, it contains a gold mine of ideas on the use of tartaric and malic acids in synthesis not only as chiral building blocks, but as chiral ligands, auxiliaries, and resolving agents as well. Throughout, the primary focus is on four-carbon building blocks derived from tartaric and malic acids and their synthetically useful reactions. Designed for ready reference, this book follows a simple, hierarchical organization-moving from derivatives of carboxy groups to derivatives of hydroxy groups, and, finally, to products of reduction of the carboxy groups-and includes:
* Hundreds of reaction schemes and figures.
* More than 70 tables with data and references for 2,000 compounds.
* Over 2,500 references to primary, secondary, and patent literature sources.
Tartaric and Malic Acids in Synthesis is a valuable working resource for chemists involved in the design of enantioselective syntheses. It is also an excellent supplementary text for graduate students of synthetic organic chemistry and naturalproducts chemistry.
