Equipment Qualification in the Pharmaceutical Industry (Paperback): Steven Ostrove Equipment Qualification in the Pharmaceutical Industry (Paperback)
Steven Ostrove
R2,517 Discovery Miles 25 170 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Equipment Qualification in the Pharmaceutical Industry provides guidance and basic information for the preparation of a quality qualification program. It has been noted that there is a general lack of understanding in the industry, especially for those new to the industry, as to what constitutes a compliant qualification program. Even experienced professionals have felt a lack of security in reaching a compliant state. This book outlines a guideline for the preparation and execution of qualification protocols including the installation (IQ), operational (OQ), and performance (PQ) protocols. It discusses the importance of related qualification programs (e.g., quality systems, commissioning, computer system, and cleaning) and how to incorporate them into a fully compliant qualification program. Furthermore, it provides matrices of what could be included in each type of protocol for major types of process equipment. While primarily for people entering the pharmaceutical industry, those established in the field will benefit from the multiple examples and matrices as well as integration of related systems. Equipment Qualification in the Pharmaceutical Industry provides students and pharmaceutical scientists a guideline for the preparation and execution of qualification (installation, operational, and performance) protocols.

The editors have included state-of-the-art strategies, including transition-metal reactions involving unsaturated systems (reactions of allenes, new gold(I)-catalyzed reactions, and Prins reaction). Chapters highlight the versatility of organopalladium chemistry dealing with carbonylative transformations, C-H activation reactions, coupling processes, and the control of the ambiphilic character of organopalladium species. Finally, the book discusses new reactions leading to heterocycles based on C-H activation processes catalyzed by other metals (Rh, Ru, Co). Written by an outstanding team of authors who are leading experts in organometallic chemistry and organic synthesis, this book is a valuable resource not only for chemists mainly focused on synthesis, but also for those interested in reaction mechanisms involving transition metals.

The Epothilones: An Outstanding Family of Anti-Tumor Agents - From Soil to the Clinic (Hardcover, 2009 ed.): Karl-Heinz Altmann The Epothilones: An Outstanding Family of Anti-Tumor Agents - From Soil to the Clinic (Hardcover, 2009 ed.)
Karl-Heinz Altmann; Series edited by A. Douglas Kinghorn; Edited by Johann H. Mulzer; Contributions by Gerhard Hoefle, Rolf Muller, …
R4,033 Discovery Miles 40 330 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Epothilones have received unusual attention over the past ten years. They are novel antitumor drugs which very much like their predecessor paclitaxel (Taxol) act via microtubule stabilization. In comparison to paclitaxel and a number of alternative drugs with a similar mode of bioaction (e.g. laulimalide, eleutherobin, peluroside, discodermolide) the epothilones have significant advantages, above all very high activity in the nanomolar range and low susceptibility towards multidrug resistance. Epothilone B and several derivatives thereof are in phase I-III clinical trials; one of them (ixabepilone, BMS) is already on the market, others are supposed to appear on the market in the near future. All naturally occurring epothilones have been isolated from Sorangium cellulosum; their antitumor action is traced back to the stabilization of microtubules. In consequence, the formation of the mitototic spindle is prohibited and the cell undergoes apoptosis.

Synthesis of Medicinal Agents from Plants (Paperback): Ashish Tewari, Supriya Tiwari Synthesis of Medicinal Agents from Plants (Paperback)
Ashish Tewari, Supriya Tiwari
R4,370 R4,061 Discovery Miles 40 610 Save R309 (7%) Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Synthesis of Medicinal Agents from Plants highlights the importance of synthesizing medicinal agents from plants and outlines methods for performing it effectively. Beginning with an introduction to the significance of medicinal plants, the book goes on to provide a historical overview of drug synthesis before exploring how this can be used to successfully replicate and adapt the active agents from natural sources. Chapters then explore the medicinal properties of a number of important plants, before concluding with a discussion of the future of drugs from medicinal plants. Illustrated with real-world examples, it is a practical resource for researchers in this field. In an age of rapid environmental destruction, hundreds of medicinal plants are at risk of extinction from overexploitation and deforestation, limiting the natural resources available for active agent extraction, thereby threatening the discovery of future cures for diseases. Simultaneously, with the increasing population and advances in medical sciences, the demand for drugs is continuously increasing and cannot be met with just plants. The ability to synthetically replicate the active compounds from these plants is essential in creating an ecologically-aware, sustainable future for drug design

Junpei Matsuoka
R2,653 Discovery Miles 26 530 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book explores efficient syntheses of indole alkaloids based on gold-catalyzed cascade cyclizations, presenting two strategies for total synthesis of these natural products based on gold-catalyzed reactions of conjugated diyne or ynamide. The book first describes the total and formal synthesis of dictyodendrins A-F based on direct construction of the pyrrolo[2,3-c]carbazole core using the gold-catalyzed annulation of azido-diynes and protected pyrrole. This synthetic strategy features late-stage functionalization of the pyrrolo[2,3-c]carbazole scaffold at several positions and allows diverse access to dictyodendrins and their derivatives. Secondly, the book discusses the formal synthesis of vindorosine based on the pyrrolo[2,3-d]carbazole construction using the gold-catalyzed cascade cyclization of ynamide. Importantly, the reaction using a chiral gold complex provides the optically active pyrrolo[2,3-d]carbazole. This strategy facilitates the rapid construction of the pyrrolocarbazole core structure of aspidosperma and related alkaloids, including vindorosine. These methodologies can accelerate the medicinal application of pyrrolocarbazole-type alkaloids and related compounds.
