Courageous Leadership - The Missing Link to Creating a Lean Culture of Excellence (Paperback): Sumeet Kumar Courageous Leadership - The Missing Link to Creating a Lean Culture of Excellence (Paperback)
Sumeet Kumar
R1,250 Discovery Miles 12 500 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Courageous Leadership: The Missing Link to Creating a Lean Culture of Excellence is one of the firsts of its kind to wade through the confusion among leaders on selecting the type of change approach that will get the best results in their organization. It educates the senior executive leaders and organizational excellence practitioners on the different characteristics of change and answers why the approach to incremental and transitional change cannot deliver the results expected from a transformational change. The author shares his experiences from leading several small and large scale organization transformations in multiple industries across different countries on how to establish a robust foundation for an excellence journey and integrate strategy into daily operations. This book elaborates on the types of courage and what it means to be a courageous leader while leading change in difficult situations, and what leaders do differently for putting the organization on a path to excellence and culture transformation. This book shares an innovative design, a methodology and an approach that combines best practices and principles from Malcolm Baldrige, Shingo, Lean, Six Sigma, Balanced Scorecard, accreditation, change management, patient and family-centered care, the Competing Values Framework, the LEADS framework, and the project management body of knowledge. The implementation of this model at a hospital in Canada propelled the organization further ahead on their transformational journey compared to other organizations that started much earlier. Sensei in Japanese means Teacher and Gyaan in Sanskrit means Knowledge. Brief sections on 'Sensei Gyaan' have been interspersed throughout the book to provide valuable tips to the readers based on author's experiential learnings over the past two decades. This book serves as a practical guide for senior executive leaders and organizational excellence practitioners, who wish to embark or are in various stages of their organizational excellence and culture transformation journey. Readers will be guided through 26 elements necessary for establishing a robust foundation and an additional set of 22 Management System elements required to create and sustain a culture of quality across the organization. For leaders in healthcare, the book provides a framework, guiding principles, and associated practices that support the implementation of the 4 core concepts of patient and family centered care namely, dignity and respect, information sharing, participation and collaboration. Included in the book are several examples with creative visuals, ready-to-use templates and standard works, models, guiding principles, and strategies based on best practices to assist leaders in their organization excellence journey.

Leadership Can Be Learned - Clarity, Connection, and Results (Hardcover): Gilmore Crosby Leadership Can Be Learned - Clarity, Connection, and Results (Hardcover)
Gilmore Crosby
R1,212 Discovery Miles 12 120 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Leadership is poorly understood because human systems are poorly understood. Like the "flat earth" theory of old, modern work culture is limited by a paradigm in which problems are understood as "clashes of personality,"' and blame is directed at the superficial level of individuals, groups, and structure. Leadership Can Be Learned: Clarity, Connection, and Results charts the course to a new paradigm of leadership and systems and how to leverage the relationship between the two. Leadership can be learned because it is a combination of art and science. Ultimately, high- performance culture and high-performance leadership mirror each other, and leaders must use their own unique strengths to foster both. Gilmore Crosby guides the reader by breaking the topic into four powerful sections. The first focuses on the transformational leadership model of Dr. Edwin Freidman, the second describes the systems theory from which that leadership model emerged, the third offers a unique exploration of emotional intelligence and critical interpersonal skills related to leadership, and the fourth and final section applies all the previous sections to attaining organizational results. This book: Delivers a clear how-to guide for leading organizations to higher performance Helps each reader understand, respect, and rise above their own authority issues Conveys a proven approach to life-long self-development so readers can continue to mature in a more objective, non-defensive, and intentional manner. In addition, it provides the skills and framework for applying this approach to effectively coaching and developing others Describes how leaders can be more effective in their interpersonal, group, and large-system interactions Teaches the approach through an engaging mix of historical examples, lessons learned through the author's experience, quizzes, and metaphors. Provides a solid foundation for leadership development programs With this book, readers will gain a new understanding of themselves and of human systems and learn how, in the words of Gandhi, to "be the change they wish to see in the world" so they and their colleagues can attain and sustain world-class results.

The Basics of Performance Measurement (Hardcover, 2nd edition): Jerry L. Harbour The Basics of Performance Measurement (Hardcover, 2nd edition)
Jerry L. Harbour
R5,468 Discovery Miles 54 680 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

You can't understand, manage, or improve what you don't measure While every smart executive now knows the truth of those words, perhaps more so than anyone, it was Jerry Harbour who turned that adage into a science. Originally published in 1997, The Basics of Performance Measurement helped pioneer the science of performance measurement and continues to serve as an industry standard. Yet, despite the book's continued relevancy, Harbour is once again stepping ahead of the curve to fully update his little yellow book. In addition to adding the wisdom of lessons learned over the past decade, he adds two new chapters to this second edition. One of these chapters discusses units of measurement. The other introduces ways to better interpret what has been measured and then translate those measurement-related interpretations into actionable knowledge. Harbour provides a six-step method for developing a performance measurement system. He shows how to design performance measurement families and how to build hierarchies tailored to different levels within an organization. He also covers collection and distribution, as well as the value of performance measure displays. When you finish this book, you will be able to undertake performance measurement with new confidence. You will also come away knowing how to present your findings with an authority that will convince stakeholders of the importance and accuracy of your results.

Lean and Agile Project Management - How to Make Any Project Better, Faster, and More Cost Effective, Second Edition (Hardcover,... Lean and Agile Project Management - How to Make Any Project Better, Faster, and More Cost Effective, Second Edition (Hardcover, 2nd edition)
Terra Vanzant Stern, PhD
R1,269 Discovery Miles 12 690 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

When project managers are faced with budget cuts and fewer resources, waste elimination becomes a priority in maintaining effectiveness. This does not mean shortening or abandoning traditional project cycles. In fact, fast results on critical assignments can only be completed with strong plans and a detailed work breakdown structure. The connections, or lack thereof, are what strongly impact performance and quality. Lean and Agile, as covered in this book, are meant to enhance traditional project management, not replace the science. A strong foundation in traditional project management is necessary to appreciate the benefits of adopting Lean and Agile. Lean and Agile Project Management: How to Make Any Project Better, Faster, and More Cost Effective defines the wastes and issues found in project management and demonstrates how they can be addressed by engaging Lean thinking and Agile techniques. This book also: * Shows how to apply Lean principles to project management (PM) * Teaches the application of simple Six Sigma metrics in PM * Discusses the adoption of Agile techniques in PM in order to stay on task and remain flexible * Helps readers discover the theoretical synergies between popular PM programs * Promotes an understanding of how Lean people skills can help a person become a better leader and manager Since the publication of the first edition of this book, the bodies of knowledge have all been systematically updated. In addition, through conducting peer groups and detailed workshops, the Author has simplified many of the basics, and they are now much easier to understand. Essentially, the Author believes traditional project management can benefit from adding Lean and Agile, but she has simplified the model for greater efficiency.

Michael Bremer, Brian McKibben
R1,676 Discovery Miles 16 760 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Written by two experts who have dedicated their careers to quality improvement, Escape the Improvement Trap: Five Ingredients Missing in Most Improvement Recipes separates itself from other improvement books by looking at why most companies rarely achieve anything more than an average level of improvement maturity. They identify five critical ingredients required for successful improvement: 1. A meaningful business value proposition and strategy that drives key improvement actions 2. An engaging environment where people can do their best work 3. A focus on meaningful metrics while avoiding irrelevant details 4. Process improvement efforts that maximize cross-functional process performance and foster deeper process understanding, innovation, and execution of best work practices 5. An executive mindset that focuses on customer value, people development, process performance, and business improvement outcomes, not solely on savings The authors consider a variety of situations at Independence Enterprise, a fictional company, based on their own very real experiences. They elaborate on the principles that should come into play, look at what Independence Enterprise is doing right and wrong, and suggest deployment actions to help you apply the principles to your own organization.

Lean Misconceptions - Why Many Lean Initiatives Fail and How You Can Avoid the Mistakes (Hardcover): Cordell Hensley Lean Misconceptions - Why Many Lean Initiatives Fail and How You Can Avoid the Mistakes (Hardcover)
Cordell Hensley
R1,127 Discovery Miles 11 270 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

It has been reported that about 70% of performance-improvement initiatives fail to achieve desired results. The primary causes are unrealistic expectations regarding effort and results and too much focus on short-term improvements instead of long-term capability building. Too many consultants and organizations stress the tools and the results they can achieve without considering the long-term implications. Success relies on focusing on both short-term gains and long-term culture change - That is, using the tools as the mechanism for change versus the objective of the change. Lean Misconceptions: Why Many Lean Initiatives Fail and How You Can Avoid the Mistakes focuses on continuous improvement as well as the tools organizations can use to achieve long-term growth. Readers will gain new knowledge while also challenging their peers, seniors, subordinates, and their own thinking on Lean.

Electronics Packaging Forum - Volume One (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 1990): James E. Morris Electronics Packaging Forum - Volume One (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 1990)
James E. Morris
R1,421 Discovery Miles 14 210 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This is the first volume of an annual monographic series devoted to the diverse aspects of electronics packaging technology. Each book is to be based on that year's presentations at the annual Electronics Packaging Symposium, which is run at the State University of New York at Binghamton by the Continuing Education Division of the T. J. Watson School of Engineering, Applied Science and Technology in cooperation with local professional societies (IEEE, ASME, SME, IEPS) and UnlPEG (University-Industry Partnership for Economic Growth. ) Electronics Packaging has been receiving significant visibility in recent years as it has become obvious that the near-future limitations to the continued development of high performance electronic chips will arise from technological problems in their packaging. The two most obvious of these are the escalating difficulties of removing Joule heat from circuits packed ever more closely together, and the problem of providing more and more electrical contacts to smaller and smaller packages. As recognition of these problems has developed, organizations such as NSF, SRC and MCC have joined with industry in calling for increased research effort in the area. The Materials Research Society and other professional scientific groups have introduced Electronics Packaging sessions into their conference programs, and the International Electronics Packaging Society (IEPS) is expanding rapidly. The field is inherently multi-disciplinary, incorporating several of the traditional sub-areas of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Physics and Chemistry.
