Engineered Cementitious Composites for Electrified Roadway in Megacities - A Comprehensive Study on Functional Performance... Engineered Cementitious Composites for Electrified Roadway in Megacities - A Comprehensive Study on Functional Performance (Paperback, 1st ed. 2022)
Ali Aryo Bawono
R4,347 Discovery Miles 43 470 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book describes the development of an innovative solution for electrified roadway pavements based on engineered cementitious composites, which are exhibiting an extreme tensile strain capacity that is much higher than conventional concrete. This enables the pavement to work without steel reinforcement and to embed a dynamic wireless power transfer technology for charging electric vehicles. At first, the book presents a modified performance-driven design approach to improve the composites to achieve the optimum pavement design in terms of functional and structural performance. It shows that the modified composites can be used to fulfil the safety and comfort factors without neglecting the characteristics of conventional ones. Further, 3D finite element and fluid dynamics models are used to analyse the pavement properties. The validated models can predict the functional performance, including skid resistance, surface water drainage, and noise. In the remaining part of the thesis, an environmentally-friendly photocatalytic function for pavement made of engineered cementitious composites is investigated. In turn, a multi-criteria design analysis is proposed to identify the optimum functional performance of the pavements. All in all, this book reports on a comprehensive approach to design, analyse and optimize engineered cementitious composites for electrified road pavement application. A special emphasis is given on applications in Singapore and other tropical megacities.

Steel Designers' Manual 7e (Paperback, 7th Edition): B. Davison Steel Designers' Manual 7e (Paperback, 7th Edition)
B. Davison
R2,085 Discovery Miles 20 850 Ships in 9 - 17 working days

In 2010 the then current European national standards for building and construction were replaced by the EN Eurocodes, a set of pan-European model building codes developed by the European Committee for Standardization. The Eurocodes are a series of 10 European Standards (EN 1990 EN 1999) that provide a common approach for the design of buildings, other civil engineering works and construction products. The design standards embodied in these Eurocodes will be used for all European public works and are set to become the de-facto standard for the private sector in Europe, with probable adoption in many other countries. This classic manual on structural steelwork design was first published in 1955, since when it has sold many tens of thousands of copies worldwide. For the seventh edition of the Steel Designers' Manual all chapters have been comprehensively reviewed, revised to ensure they reflect current approaches and best practice, and brought in to compliance with EN 1993: Design of Steel Structures (the so-called Eurocode 3).

Stochastic Structural Dynamics - Application of Finite Element Methods (Hardcover): CWS To Stochastic Structural Dynamics - Application of Finite Element Methods (Hardcover)
CWS To
R2,982 Discovery Miles 29 820 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

One of the first books to provide in-depth and systematic application of finite element methods to the field of stochastic structural dynamics The parallel developments of the Finite Element Methods in the 1950 s and the engineering applications of stochastic processes in the 1940 s provided a combined numerical analysis tool for the studies of dynamics of structures and structural systems under random loadings. In the open literature, there are books on statistical dynamics of structures and books on structural dynamics with chapters dealing with random response analysis. However, a systematic treatment of stochastic structural dynamics applying the finite element methods seems to be lacking. Aimed at advanced and specialist levels, the author presents and illustrates analytical and direct integration methods for analyzing the statistics of the response of structures to stochastic loads. The analysis methods are based on structural models represented via the Finite Element Method. In addition to linear problems the text also addresses nonlinear problems and non-stationary random excitation with systems having large spatially stochastic property variations. * A systematic treatment of stochastic structural dynamics applying the finite element methods * Highly illustrated throughout and aimed at advanced and specialist levels, it focuses on computational aspects instead of theory * Emphasizes results mainly in the time domain with limited contents in the time-frequency domain * Presents and illustrates direction integration methods for analyzing the statistics of the response of linear and nonlinear structures to stochastic loads Under Author Information - one change of word to existing text: He is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)...

Modeling and Computing for Geotechnical Engineering - An Introduction (Hardcover): M.S. Rahman, M.B. Can Ulker Modeling and Computing for Geotechnical Engineering - An Introduction (Hardcover)
M.S. Rahman, M.B. Can Ulker
R5,861 Discovery Miles 58 610 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

Modeling and computing is becoming an essential part of the analysis and design of an engineered system. This is also true of "geotechnical systems", such as soil foundations, earth dams and other soil-structure systems. The general goal of modeling and computing is to predict and understand the behaviour of the system subjected to a variety of possible conditions/scenarios (with respect to both external stimuli and system parameters), which provides the basis for a rational design of the system. The essence of this is to predict the response of the system to a set of external forces. The modelling and computing essentially involve the following three phases: (a) Idealization of the actual physical problem, (b) Formulation of a mathematical model represented by a set of equations governing the response of the system, and (c) Solution of the governing equations (often requiring numerical methods) and graphical representation of the numerical results. This book will introduce these phases. MATLAB (R) codes and MAPLE (R) worksheets are available for those who have bought the book. Please contact the author at [email protected] or [email protected]. Kindly provide the invoice number and date of purchase.
