'My name Mbu is a short version of Mbuyiseli, which in isiXhosa means something like "the one who returns something."? I once asked my mom why she gave me this name. She said: "I never got anything from life; I hope to get something back from my children one day ... maybe from you."' In this moving and gripping tale of his life, Mbu recounts his childhood growing up in the shacks of some of the poorest townships in the Eastern and Western Cape; the battle to survive hunger, neglect and sleeping on the streets; the beloved older brother who took care of him as a toddler; the unwavering dream of education that kept him going; and the search for values and dignity in a world of alcohol, drugs, crime and few positive role models. Mbu's story is the story of countless other young men and women in South Africa, born into similar situations of hardship, growing up abandoned or neglected by parents themselves in need of parenting. What makes his story different is that it is a journey not of despair but transformation, lit by the kindness of friends and strangers, and Mbu's own determination not to stop hoping for a better life. Mbu Maloni lives in HOKISA Children's Home in Masiphumelele Township, Cape Town South Africa. He is currently in Grade 11, and plans to matriculate next year. This book is dedicated to a dear friend of his and serves to provide hope for the many 'street children' out there who, if they believe strongly enough in something positive, can achieve more than they are often led to believe. Lutz van Dijk is an internationally acclaimed writer, who, amongst other books, has published the bestseller "Stronger than the Storm," the novels "Romeo and Jabulile" and "Themba" (made into a movie in 2010) and "A History of Africa" (preface by Archbishop Tutu).
The book features a scrumptious collection of tried and trusted recipes for gifts from your kitchen - cakes, choux puffs, cookies, tarts, snacks and fillings with many variations, as well as several low-carb, high-fat recipes for people on special diets (Banting, paleo, keto, gluten free, sugar free). Master baker Katrien van Zyl tried to focus on easy, flop-proof recipes that you can rustle up without having to hunt for foreign ingredients. Step-by-step photographs illustrate more complicated techniques, so that anyone who can follow basic instructions will be able to achieve them. Katrien also shares packaging ideas for your baked goodies and explains ways to recycle containers and decorate them to suit any occasion. Packed with practical hints, the book further indicates for how long food will remain fresh at room temperature, as well as freezing times for those who want to start preparing for special events ahead of time. Katrien's Gifts from the kitchen is lavishly illustrated with stunning photographs showing that the most beautiful gifts can come from the kitchen. It has something for everyone, whether you are the one doing the baking, or the lucky recipient of a delicious, attractively packaged edible gift.
Pensacola may boast the world's whitest beaches, but the sands of time reveal a dark history in America's first settlement. It's no surprise that one of the nation's oldest cities is also among the most haunted, with culturally diverse spirits from the ages of the Spanish founders and British settlers through the turbulent era of the Civil War. Author and expert Alan Brown presents a survey of unexplained mysteries at Pensacola's eerie landmarks. The infamous haunted lighthouse, the ghosts of St. Michael's Cemetery and the tale of the headless woman of Ramona Street are just a few of the chilling stories recounted in Haunted Pensacola.

Everyone should read it' PHILIPPA PERRY Why have we lost our ability to focus? What are the causes? And, most importantly, how do we get it back? For Stolen Focus, internationally bestselling author Johann Hari went on a three-year journey to uncover the reasons behind our shortening attention spans. He interviewed the leading experts in the world on attention, and learned that everything we think about this subject is wrong. We think our inability to focus is a personal failing - a flaw in each one of us. It is not. This has been done to all of us by powerful external forces. Our focus has been stolen. Johann discovered there are twelve deep causes of this crisis, all of which have robbed some of our attention. He shows us how in a thrilling journey that ranges from Silicon Valley dissidents, to a favela in Rio where attention vanished, to an office in New Zealand that found a remarkable way to restore our attention. Crucially, he learned how - as individuals, and as a society - we can get our focus back, if we are determined to fight for it.

STOP TELLING STORIES. START SELLING THEM! The world is rightly obsessed with the incredible power of a good story. Unfortunately too many of us take that to mean that it is our own story that’s important. It’s not. The magic happens not when we tell our customers the story of our past, but when we sell them a new story of their future. One in which we play a part. As a salesperson (and make no mistake, you are a salesperson) you have two jobs. Job No. 2 of the storyseller is to help your clients and customers slay their dragon. Job No. 1 of the storyseller is to help them see their dragon. You are in the dragon hunting business, but dragon hunting ain’t easy – there’s work to be done. In this short and highly practical book, renowned speaker Richard Mulholland shares with you how to use powerful stories to change minds, drive sales, and solve problems. Here Be Dragons isn’t just a how-to book, it is far more a why-to, and mostly a what-to-do book.
Set in a big city in Africa, covering only a few days of Walter and Ingrid's life, the story develops in a surprising and suspenseful way. Through the struggles of the people they are trying to help, both find themselves facing unexpected challenges to their own marriage. Nothing in this book is fiction. All the stories have really happened. All of the conversations have really taken place. The people involved are still living today. The setting of these events is Africa, but the problems dealt with are relevant to all parts and to all cultures.
