Chosen and curated by London-based creative director Alex Eagle, this collection of stylish interiors is the next best thing. With a spotlight on objects that personalize each home, this playful volume is rich in inspiration for creating that perfect blend of modern luxury and bohemian chic. Exploring the homes, tastes, and lifestyles of brilliant creatives around the world--from adventurer David de Rothschild to heiress Marie Louise Scio (owner of Il Pellicano), this book pairs vibrant photos of interiors with texts about their owners' worlds, providing insight into how these spaces cultivate unique ways of living, working, and socializing. R791 Discovery Miles 7 910 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

A stunning look inside the gorgeous homes and creative spaces of Martha’s Vineyard, capturing the true soul of Vineyard life and the artisans who live thereWhile the Hamptons has stolen all the attention as the chic summer spot, a secret society of tastemakers and creatives have chosen the lower-key island of Martha’s Vineyard to hone their crafts and make their homes. The picturesque island just six miles off the coast of Cape Cod has a long history as a geographical muse for artists and writers: Lillian Hellman and William Styron wrote while overlooking the Vineyard Haven harbor, and Thomas Hart Benton painted the winding roads of what is known as “Up-island” more than 100 years ago.Vineyard Folk reveals how a new generation continues to build on these creative legacies, resulting in homes as unique and diverse as their creators. Directly informed by their personalities and the varied island landscapes, the result is a mix of weathered, sea-side ambience, cutting-edge design, and New England tradition. From modern glass houses overlooking the red cliffs of Aquinnah and jewel-box fishing cottages in Menemsha to rambling farmhouses behind Chilmark’s hand-built stone walls, the candy-colored Victorians of Oak Bluff’s historical African American community, and stately 19th-century whaling Captain mansions in Edgartown, all the homes have stories to tell and inspiration to share. Contributor list: Nettie Kent and Colin Ruel: painter and jewelry designer / Menemsha and Chilmark; Allen Whiting: painter-farmer / W Tisbury; Mark Chung and Eric Coles: store owners, designers, and curators / Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluff; Micah Thanhauser: ceramist / Tisbury; Rose Styron: poet, writer, and human rights advocate / West Chop; Lexie Roth and Eva Faber: chef, actress, singer-songwriter, and food-truck owner / Tisbury, camp behind Micah Thanhauser; Gogo Ferguson and David Sayre: jewelry designer and building designer, jack of all trades / Chilmark; Carly Simon: singer-songwriter and painter / Tisbury; Zach Pinerio: woodworker / Chappaquidick; John Forté and Lara Fuller: musician, producer, pot farmer, and photographer / Chilmark; Valerie Francis: art curator, Knowhere Gallery / Oak Bluffs; Kara Taylor: painter and gallerist / Chilmark; Margot Datz: painter, illustrator, and muralist / Edgartown; Julie Taymor and Elliot Goldenthal: playwright, director, screenwriter, and composer / Chilmark and Squibnocket; Juli Vanderhoop: baker/chef of Orange Peel Bakery, Wampanoag Indian, and town select person / Aquinnah; Amy Brenneman and Brad Silberling: actor, screenwriter, and director / West Tisbury waterfront; Brooke Adams and Tony Shalhoub: actress/artist and actor / Chilmark; Krishana Collins: flower farmer / Chilmark; Kate Taylor: singer-songwriter and painter / Aquinnah and Chilmark

Nature Inside - Plants and Flowers in the Modern Interior (Hardcover): Penny Sparke Nature Inside - Plants and Flowers in the Modern Interior (Hardcover)
Penny Sparke
R1,231 Discovery Miles 12 310 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

The story of how plants and flowers have shaped interior design for over 200 years From ferns in 19th-century British parlors to contemporary "living walls" in commercial spaces, plants and flowers have long been incorporated into the design of public and private spaces. Spanning two centuries, Nature Inside explores the history and popularity of indoor plants, revealing the close relationship between architecture, interior design, and nature. Studying the international modern interior through the lens of plants in the human environment, author Penny Sparke attributes a degree of the interest in indoor plants to urbanization, and, more recently, the climate crisis, which serve as ongoing reminders that people must maintain a connection to, and respect for, the natural world. While architectural and interior design styles have evolved alongside the popularity of various plant species, the human need to bring nature indoors has remained constant.

Charles Rennie Mackintosh - The Complete Furniture, Furniture Drawings and Interior Designs (Hardcover, 4th Revised Edition):... Charles Rennie Mackintosh - The Complete Furniture, Furniture Drawings and Interior Designs (Hardcover, 4th Revised Edition)
Roger Billcliffe
R4,634 Discovery Miles 46 340 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Roger Billcliffe’s ground-breaking catalogue raisonné of the furniture of Charles Rennie Mackintosh first appeared over four decades ago.

This fourth edition has been completely revised and updated to take account of the host of discoveries and developments in Mackintosh scholarship that have taken place since the book’s first publication.

Among the 900 illustrations, many items that were previously shown in black and white now appear in colour.

An impressive and stimulating work of scholarship, this is the only comprehensive work on the furniture of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the most important British designer and architect since Robert Adam.

After an introduction in which Billcliffe perceptively analyses Mackintosh’s career and scholarly interpretations of it, the main part of the book is arranged as a chronological catalogue of Mackintosh’s work as a furniture designer. In a working life of only 25 years, Mackintosh designed over 300 items of furniture, a number all the more impressive given that the majority of pieces were produced in the periods 1897–1905 and 1916–18.

As well as the entries on individual designs and pieces, the catalogue includes essays on all Mackintosh’s major commissions for interiors and on his designs in general at specific periods of his career.

Contemporary photographs are used extensively to show interiors (many of them now destroyed) as they were at the time of their completion. Untraced pieces of furniture are listed by reference to the job books that record the details of designs by Mackintosh or the firms of which he was a member.

Design for Sustainability - A Multi-level Framework from Products to Socio-technical Systems (Paperback): Fabrizio Ceschin,... Design for Sustainability - A Multi-level Framework from Products to Socio-technical Systems (Paperback)
Fabrizio Ceschin, Idil Gaziulusoy
R1,260 Discovery Miles 12 600 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This book discusses the most significant ways in which design has been applied to sustainability challenges using an evolutionary perspective. It puts forward an innovation framework that is capable of coherently integrating multiple design for sustainability (DfS) approaches developed so far. It is now widely understood that design can and must play a crucial role in the societal transformations towards sustainability. Design can in fact act as a catalyst to trigger and support innovation, and can help to shape the world at different levels: from materials to products, product-service systems, social organisations and socio-technical systems. This book offers a unique perspective on how DfS has evolved in the past decades across these innovation levels, and provides insights on its promising and necessary future development directions. For design scholars, this book will trigger and feed the academic debate on the evolution of DfS and its next research frontiers. For design educators, the book can be used as a supporting tool to design courses and programmes on DfS. For bachelor's and master's level design, engineering and management students, the book can be a general resource to provide an understanding of the historical evolution of DfS. For design practitioners and businesses, the book offers a rich set of practical examples, design methods and tools to apply the various DfS approaches in practice, and an innovation framework which can be used as a tool to support change in organisations that aim to integrate DfS in their strategy and processes. The Open Access version of this book, available at https://www.taylorfrancis.com/books/9780429456510, has been made available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivatives 4.0 license.

Covering everything from theory to current practices, eight leading design educators present the tools and knowledge needed to implement an environmentally responsible approach for any interior design project. Indoor air quality

Environmentally responsible lighting design

Energy and water issues

Evaluation and specification of interior finishes and furnishings

United States Green Building Council and LEED certification

The author sets forth and examines a variety of essential design standards and philosophies, including LEED-CI, William McDonough's "Cradle to Cradle," Minnesota Sustainable Design Guide, and Energy Star(R). The final part of the book is dedicated to two in-depth case studies that demonstrate how the principles and practices discussed in the book have been successfully put into action. Throughout the presentation, detailed illustrations enable you to better understand how environmentally responsible design works. A bibliography at the end of the book leads you to additional resources.
