R3,259 Discovery Miles 32 590 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Designed for both in-depth study as well as quick reference, Neuroradiology Cases covers the field of brain imaging through 192 concise and clinically relevant cases. Part of the Cases in Radiology series, this book follows the easy-to-learn case format of question and answer, complete with concise summaries and a generous amount of top-quality images. Following the format of the American Board of Radiology examinations, cases are grouped into three sections: Brain, Spine, and Ear, Nose, and Throat. Within each section, cases are randomly ordered and include challenging examples of common diseases as well as typical examples of less common ones. This collection of cases is ideal for the resident preparing for the boards, the fellow for the CAQ exam, or the radiologist in need of a quick review.

Ischemic colitis is becoming increasingly one of the most important conditions involving the colon. This is due to a combination of multiple factors: (1) increasing age of the world population due to improved public health conditions and advances in medicine; (2) diagnostic advances in recognizing the condition; and, (3) education of physicians who suspect the disease in elderly individuals with colonic symptoms. The disease is a great masquerader of other conditions and can be mistaken for ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease or almost any other inflammatory disease of the large bowel. It can have shallow ulcers, deep ulcers, filiform polyps, and pseudomembrane. It can produce fistulae or toxic megacolon. The thumb printing and other acute findings are not always seen and the site of involvement may be atypical. It is therefore so important to have a book dealing with this condition extensively and in detail. This scholarly presentation based on large clinical experience significantly contributes to the knowledge of this important disease that will assume even more importance as other conditions involving the colon are successfully treated. As physicians, radiologists and even pathologists have difficulty in diagnosing this condition that appears under multiple guises the information contained here should be invaluable. Alexander R. Margulis, M. D. March 1984, San Francisco PREFACE First of all, I would like to congratulate the authors on their successful publication of this monograph with many diagnostic radiographs of new touch taken by the modern technique."

It gives me great pleasure to have this opportunity to write a Foreword for this new book. In the past two decades we have witnessed very significant advances in the management of the very ill patient. The great success in this field of medical endeavour is largely due to the establishment of intensive care units, but a great deal of progress can also be attributed to the major developments in technology, which affect patient management and care as well as the many sophisticated techniques of diagnosis and patient monitoring. Imaging and Labelling Techniques in the Critically III covers this new important and difficult field of diagnosis and visual monitoring. By establishing the criteria and algorhythms for the choice of the different methods available for this purpose, defining the diagnostic signs on images and resolving some of the mis conceptions and pitfalls, this book will go a long way to help the reader, particularly those involved in the care of patients in the intensive care units. This book brings together many different methods of investigation and discusses the advantages and limitations of these techniques in different clinical circumstances. Some of the techniques are well established and their usefulness in the intensive care unit is in no doubt. Some of the newer techniques such as PET scanning or NMR imaging have not yet found a defined position of usage in the critically ill patient. There is, however, little doubt that in due course this situation will change.

During recent decades there has been a revolutionary change in the life expectancy and quality of life of the hemophiliac. This has been achieved by hematologic and c1inical research, and the future for the hemophiliac depends upon further medical knowledge and research. In spite of the dramatically improved life situation of hemophiliacs, hemorrhagic complications remain a threat. The hemorrhagic disorder may influence and/or aggravate the course of trauma or other diseases in these patients. Hemophiliacs suffering from hemorrhagic complications or eligible for elective surgery should be referred to Hemophilia Treatment and Training Centers, where evaluation and examination are performed by a multidisciplinary team with experience and interest in the disease. The radio10gist is an important member ofthis team. In the past diagnostic imaging has been based mainly on conventional radiography, and this is still very important for the diagnosis ofhemophilic complications, but the diagnostic imaging of today offers a wide range of modalities-conventional radiography, computed tomography, sonography, radionuc1ide imaging, and, in its infancy, magnetic resonance imaging. Thus there is a need for a thorough description of the potential and limitations ofthese modern diagnostic techniques.

Musculoskeletal Imaging (Paperback): Philip G. Conaghan, Philip O'Connor, David A. Isenberg Musculoskeletal Imaging (Paperback)
Philip G. Conaghan, Philip O'Connor, David A. Isenberg
R1,948 Discovery Miles 19 480 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Diseases of the joints and surrounding tissues cannot be visualised without the help of imaging techniques. These range from x-rays (which have been available for over 100 years) to the highly sophisticated magnetic resonance imaging scanning. The variety of imaging techniques and indeed the quality of these images has improved radically in the past decade and this book attempts to capture the way in which rheumatologists and their colleagues can use a wide variety of techniques to analyse musculoskeletal diseases which are known to exist.
This handbook provides the reader with an insight into both which imaging techniques should be applied to particular clinical problems and how the results can be used to determine the diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal conditions. It is extensively illustrated with examples of the various imaging techniques and joints to aid understanding, and is organised by anatomical region and specific musculoskeletal disorder to allow easy access to information.
