This set of two volumes comprises the collection of the papers presented at the 5th International Conference on Maritime Technology and Engineering (MARTECH 2020) that was held in Lisbon, Portugal, from 16 to 19 November 2020. The Conference has evolved from the series of biennial national conferences in Portugal, which have become an international event, and which reflect the internationalization of the maritime sector and its activities. MARTECH 2020 is the fifth of this new series of biennial conferences. The set comprises 180 contributions that were reviewed by an International Scientific Committee. Volume 2 is dedicated to ship performance and hydrodynamics, including CFD, maneuvering, seakeeping, moorings and resistance. In addition, it includes sections on ship machinery, renewable energy, fishing and aquaculture, coastal structures, and waves and currents.
With support from the Inland Waterways Association, Friends of the River Nene and others, and drawing on his longstanding connection with the river, Roger Green has thoroughly revised and updated this popular guide. Marine accidents can occur at any time and everywhere in the world, resulting in loss of life, property, environment and reputation of the companies involved. Preventing accidents and establishing a safer world without accidents is an important agenda for the maritime industry. Since the enforcement of the International Safety Management Code in 1998, companies have taken various kinds of measures to prevent accidents. Unfortunately, measures have been undertaken in a disorganized manner, and have not been effective. Experts of risk management, the safety management system, and accident models have each undertaken accident preventive measures within the scope of their specific fields, but have not looked beyond the realm of their own fields. This book discusses systematic accident prevention by integrating multi-disciplinary expertise based on academic research, the quality management system which has already proved its effectiveness in other fields, and findings of the author's research. In systematic accident prevention, the weaknesses of a system within which accidents and incidents have occurred are viewed by combining scientific accident investigation data based on the International Maritime Organization model and the accident model. The nature of every type of marine accident, such as collisions, groundings, occupational casualties, etc., are derived by combining the accident model and statistical data. System weaknesses are rectified by the risk reduction method of risk management, and the rectified performance is incorporated in improvement in the system by the PDCA cycle, which is the core of the Safety Management System. We can see the weakness in the system and reduce the number of accidents and incidents while utilizing limited resources optimally to prevent accidents and incidents.

Widely publicised disasters serve as a reminder to the maritime
profession of the eminent need for enhancing safety
cost-effectively and as a strong indicator of the existing gaps in
the stability safety of ships and ocean vehicles. The problem of
ship stability is so complex that practically meaningful solutions
are feasible only through close international collaboration and
concerted efforts by the maritime community, deriving from sound
scientific approaches. Responding to this and building on an
established track record of co-operative research between UK and
Japan, a Collaborative Research Project (CRP) was launched in 1995.
This volume includes selected material from the first four
workshops: 1st in University of Strathclyde, July 1995 organized by
Professor Vassalos; 2nd in Osaka Japan, Osaka University, November
1996 organized by Professor Masami Hamamoto; 3rd in Crete Greece,
Ship Design Laboratory of the National Technical University of
Athens (NTUA-SDL), October 1997 organized by Professor Apostolos
Papanikolaou; and 4th in Newfoundland Canada, Institute for Marine
Dynamics, September 1998 organized by David Molyneux. It contains
46 papers that represent all currently available expertise on ship
stability, spanning 17 countries from around the world. The
framework adopted for grouping the papers aims to cover broad areas
of ship stability in a way that it provides a template for future
volumes.
