Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett's magnificent partnership became a cherished British institution. Their Christmas Specials were particularly eagerly awaited and, for many, they were the highlight of the festive television schedules. The 1987 Christmas Special proved to be The Two Ronnies last ever full show together, but by then they had left so many cherished memories.

The Christmas Specials featured extra special guests - such as Elton John, David Essex and Elaine Paige - and great Christmas fun, as well as the regular Two Ronnies fare of the opening and closing new headlines, party, allotment and pub sketches and Ronnie Corbett's shaggy dog monologues.

Starring George Clooney, John Turturro and Tim Blake Nelson as the hapless heroes, and featuring a soundtrack jam-packed with American folk standards, 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?' takes its title from the film-within-a-film in Preston Sturges' 1941 classic 'Sullivan's Travels'.

Cynical TV weatherman Phil Connors (Bill Murray) has nothing but disdain for the population of Punxatawney, Pennsylvania, the nowhere town he has to visit every year in order to cover the traditional Groundhog Day festivities. Even the attractive company of new producer Rita (Andie MacDowell) doesn't cheer him up, and his mood doesn't improve when he is stranded overnight due to a blizzard. Imagine Phil's horror, therefore, when he wakes the following morning to discover that it is Groundhog Day. Again. In the first sequel 'Porky's 2' (1983), the high school kids do battle with puritanical grown-ups and the Ku Klux Klan, winning the day through a combination of schoolboy pranks and sexual hi-jinx.

Romantic comedy starring Amy Adams as Anna Brady, a matrimonially-impatient Manhattan interior designer. When her self-absorbed cardiologist boyfriend Jeremy (Adam Scott) repeatedly fails to propose to her, she decides to follow him on a trip to Dublin, where she plans to take advantage of an old Irish custom that allows women to pop the question once in every leap year on 29 February. However, bad weather causes her flight to be diverted via Wales, where she meets rough diamond Irishman Declan (Matthew Goode). The path to true love is soon taking an unexpected and not unwelcome detour.

Again the idea proves successful - but just how long can these two go on avoiding their come-uppance? 'The Lavender Hill Mob' (1951) is a classic Ealing comedy. Nobody would ever suspect gold bullion delivery man Henry Holland (Alec Guinness) of anything other than total devotion to his job. However, with the aid of fellow lodger Pendlebury (Stanley Holloway), he gathers together a gang to carry out a heist, intending to smuggle the gold out of the country by melting it down into miniature models of the Eiffel Tower. All goes well until the consignment of models becomes muddled up with another, non-golden batch. Watch out for an early cameo by Audrey Hepburn.
