Jaya: An Advanced Optimization Algorithm and its Engineering Applications (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed.... Jaya: An Advanced Optimization Algorithm and its Engineering Applications (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2019)
Ravipudi Venkata Rao
R2,668 Discovery Miles 26 680 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book introduces readers to the "Jaya" algorithm, an advanced optimization technique that can be applied to many physical and engineering systems. It describes the algorithm, discusses its differences with other advanced optimization techniques, and examines the applications of versions of the algorithm in mechanical, thermal, manufacturing, electrical, computer, civil and structural engineering. In real complex optimization problems, the number of parameters to be optimized can be very large and their influence on the goal function can be very complicated and nonlinear in character. Such problems cannot be solved using classical methods and advanced optimization methods need to be applied. The Jaya algorithm is an algorithm-specific parameter-less algorithm that builds on other advanced optimization techniques. The application of Jaya in several engineering disciplines is critically assessed and its success compared with other complex optimization techniques such as Genetic Algorithms (GA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Differential Evolution (DE), Artificial Bee Colony (ABC), and other recently developed algorithms.

Nonstationary Resonant Dynamics of Oscillatory Chains and Nanostructures (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed.... Nonstationary Resonant Dynamics of Oscillatory Chains and Nanostructures (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2018)
Leonid I. Manevitch, Agnessa Kovaleva, Valeri Smirnov, Yuli Starosvetsky
R2,697 Discovery Miles 26 970 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book suggests a new common approach to the study of resonance energy transport based on the recently developed concept of Limiting Phase Trajectories (LPTs), presenting applications of the approach to significant nonlinear problems from different fields of physics and mechanics. In order to highlight the novelty and perspectives of the developed approach, it places the LPT concept in the context of dynamical phenomena related to the energy transfer problems and applies the theory to numerous problems of practical importance. This approach leads to the conclusion that strongly nonstationary resonance processes in nonlinear oscillator arrays and nanostructures are characterized either by maximum possible energy exchange between the clusters of oscillators (coherence domains) or by maximum energy transfer from an external source of energy to the chain. The trajectories corresponding to these processes are referred to as LPTs. The development and the use of the LPTs concept a re motivated by the fact that non-stationary processes in a broad variety of finite-dimensional physical models are beyond the well-known paradigm of nonlinear normal modes (NNMs), which is fully justified either for stationary processes or for nonstationary non-resonance processes described exactly or approximately by the combinations of the non-resonant normal modes. Thus, the role of LPTs in understanding and analyzing of intense resonance energy transfer is similar to the role of NNMs for the stationary processes. The book is a valuable resource for engineers needing to deal effectively with the problems arising in the fields of mechanical and physical applications, when the natural physical model is quite complicated. At the same time, the mathematical analysis means that it is of interest to researchers working on the theory and numerical investigation of nonlinear oscillations.

Approaches to Entropy (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2019): Jeremy R. H. Tame Approaches to Entropy (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2019)
Jeremy R. H. Tame
R3,106 Discovery Miles 31 060 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This is a book about thermodynamics, not history, but it adopts a semi-historical approach in order to highlight different approaches to entropy. The book does not follow a rigid temporal order of events, nor it is meant to be comprehensive. It includes solved examples for a solid understanding. The division into chapters under the names of key players in the development of the field is not intended to separate these individual contributions entirely, but to highlight their different approaches to entropy. This structure helps to provide a different view-point from other text-books on entropy.

Powerful Pulsed Plasma Generators - Research and Application (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2018):... Powerful Pulsed Plasma Generators - Research and Application (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2018)
Victor Kolikov, Alexander Bogomaz, Alexander Budin
R3,332 Discovery Miles 33 320 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book presents experimental and theoretical results on extremely powerful plasma generators. It addresses pulsed electrical mega-ampere arcs and the mechanisms of energy transfer from the arc into hydrogen, helium and air under pressures up to 250 MPa and currents up to 2 MA. Extreme plasma parameters and increased energy density in the arc were achieved. It was found experimentally that increasing the initial gas pressure to hundreds of MPa leads to improved arc stability, high efficiency of energy transfer from arc to gas, and plasma enthalpy growth. The data obtained data provides the basis for the development of electrophysical devices with high energy density, e.g. high intensity sources for visible, UV and X-ray irradiation for laser pumping, generators of high enthalpy plasma jets, and plasma chemical reactors.

Energy Limits in Computation - A Review of Landauer's Principle, Theory and Experiments (Paperback, Softcover reprint of... Energy Limits in Computation - A Review of Landauer's Principle, Theory and Experiments (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 2019)
Craig S. Lent, Alexei O. Orlov, Wolfgang Porod, Gregory L. Snider
R4,011 Discovery Miles 40 110 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book is a single-source reference to the issues involved in the Landauer principle, which has gained new prominence recently, due to the large amount of heat generated by today's computers. If Landauer's principle is correct, there may be ways to build computers that dissipate far less power (corresponding to heat generated) than today's computers. This book brings together all sides of the discussions regarding Landauer's principle, both theoretical and experimental, empowering readers to gain better understanding of dissipation in computation, and the limits if any to progress in computation related to energy dissipation. It represents the best and most thorough examination of the important issue of Landauer's principle that is available in one volume. Provides an in-depth investigation of the Landauer principle and how it relates to the possible existence of lower bounds on dissipation in computation; Gathers together both sides of the discussion: those who agree with Landauer and his conclusions, and those who think that Landauer was not correct, offering fresh perspective on the issues in the new light of experiments; Offers insight into the future of silicon CMOS and the limits if any to progress in computation related to energy dissipation.
