This study analyzes the use of motorcycles in Metro Manila with the
aim of informing government policy related to road safety and
transport planning. Motorcycles are increasingly being used for
daily commutes as well to provide logistics services. The study
explores the various drivers, characteristics, and implications of
increased motorcycle use. Taking into account these implications,
it presents a policy framework to reduce motorcycle-related crashes
and suggests that the Public Service Act be reviewed and amended as
appropriate to recognize motorcycles as a primary mode of
transport.
This study assesses how the implementation of transit-oriented
development (TOD) can help address urban development issues in
India. In the context of metro rail systems, TOD has much potential
to promote inclusive and sustainable urban mobility. It can also
enhance the livability and resilience of cities through better
integration of land use policies and the development of the
transport network. TOD presents an opportunity to utilize land
value capture mechanisms to augment cities' finances. The study
seeks to understand key achievements and challenges of TOD
implementation in selected major cities in India. It also explores
why synchronized interaction between TOD measures and land use
regulations is essential to maximize the socioeconomic benefits of
metro rail investments.
This manual sets out how to combine road safety audits with the
International Road Assessment Programme methodology in a star
ratings system. This system, Star Ratings for Road Safety Audits,
will help policy makers and practitioners involved in designing,
upgrading, and rehabilitating roads to meet safety targets and
reduce injuries from traffic accidents.
