This book is a knowledge-based text that covers the anatomy,
neurophysiology, and neuropharmacology needed to carry out the
necessary management and cerebrospinal protection during
neuroanesthesia. Especially to make the subject of neuroanesthesia
more approachable, we introduce surgical measures utilized in
neurosurgery, cardiovascular surgery, neuromodulation, and related
procedures. The main purpose of neuroanesthesia/neurocritical care
is to deliver cerebrospinal protection in neurosurgical and
cardiovascular surgeries. How should we select the best anesthetic
management to prevent neurological complications for patients who,
for instance, undergo different types of surgery for subarachnoid
hemorrhage, stroke, head trauma, carotid endarterectomy, or
cardiovascular surgery under cardiopulmonary bypass? These
pathological conditions include the risk of transient cerebrospinal
ischemia, and if our management is not precise, it may induce
serious neurological sequelae. Although there is an urgent need to
establish the treatment and elucidate the molecular mechanisms of
cerebrospinal injury, many components are intertwined, making this
a challenge we have not completely solved yet. This volume makes
the management of neuroanesthesia more accessible not only for
primary residents but also for specialists, providing a valuable
resource on the current perspectives of neuroanesthesia.

ADVANCED Examination Anesthesiology Core Review: Part Two-ADVANCED
Exam prepares you for the second of two new staged anesthesiology
board certification exams. This is the first board review book
tailored for the new ADVANCED examination. The book is divided into
sections that match the blueprint provided by the American Board of
Anesthesiology: Basic Science, Clinical Sciences, Organ-Based
Sciences,Clinical Subspecialties, and Special Problems or Issues in
Anesthesiology. Anesthesiology Core Review: Part Two-ADVANCED Exam
is the single best way to take the stress out of this make-or-break
exam. Short 2-4 page chapters provide critical information in an
easily digestible and memorable format. Each chapter succinctly
summarizes key concepts, covering the nearly 200 must-know topics
found on the board exam outline. The pages are heavily illustrated
to help you visualize key concepts, with space conveniently
provided throughout the book to add notes from other study
resources. Together with the first volume (Anesthesiology Core
Review Part One-BASIC), this book provides an excellent,
comprehensive resource for initial board certification.
Physics for the Anaesthetic Viva is a succinct and practical text
that comprehensively covers all aspects of the physics and clinical
measurement curriculum for the FRCA examinations. Each section
begins by explaining the basic science concepts, which are then
expanded and related to everyday practice. Illustrations are used
to enhance understanding of the concepts, and are presented in such
a way as to be easy to reproduce in the exam setting. In addition,
sample viva questions are provided at the end of each chapter to
test learning, or for use in a mock viva session. Written by
trainees for trainees, this book provides exactly what you need to
pass the exam.
Personalized Anaesthesia presents a modern vision of anaesthesia.
Integrating technology and knowledge from leading experts in the
field, this book will change the way anaesthesia is both taught and
practiced. Modern practice requires the anaesthetist to provide
patient-specific management. This is the first resource to be
organised by the desired physiological effect, rather than by drug
groupings, explaining how physiological changes can be produced and
controlled according to the characteristics of each patient and the
particular surgical context. The book integrates physiology,
pharmacology and technology, and applies these concepts in a
systematic manner to each homeostatic system. This will optimise
drug titration, effect quantification and decision making in
anaesthesia practice to match the needs of the individual patient.
Complex mathematical and scientific concepts are explained using
accessible text, colour illustrations throughout and graphs. This
is an essential text for any consultant or trainee working in
anaesthesia.
Edited and written by an international "who's who" of more than 100
authors, including anesthesiologists, nurse anesthetists, bench
scientists, a surgeon, and representatives of industry, this text
provides a comprehensive history of anesthesia, unique in its focus
on the people and events that shaped the specialty around the
world, particularly during the past 70 years when anesthesia
emerged from empiricism and developed into a science-based
practice.

Complete review for the nurse anesthesia certification exam written
by experienced nurse anesthesia educatorsMore than 800 questions
and answers provide the practice you need to excel on the National
Certification Examination This one-of-a-kind review is specifically
written to provide student nurse anesthetists with the practice
they need to prepare for the National Certification Examination.
Current and comprehensive, it will also prove to be an outstanding
refresher for seasoned CRNAs preparing for recertification.
Certification Review for Nurse Anesthesia is based upon the content
areas tested by the National Board of Certification and
Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists. Question types include
multiple choice, multiple response, and calculation. Detailed
explanations are provided for the answers, along with references to
appropriate pages in Morgan and Mikhail's Clinical Anesthesiology,
Fifth Edition, and other respected anesthesia textbooks, for more
detailed discussion of the topic. Questions are intentionally not
grouped according to specific topics in order to provide a review
that mirrors the actual test.

rigorous, high-yield review for the new ABA Part 1: BASIC
Examination The year 2014 marks the beginning of a new phase in
board certification for anesthesiology residents in the United
States. The Part 1 exam is now split into two written examinations:
Basic and Advanced. Residents who are unable to pass the Basic
examination will not be allowed to finish their training. That's
why this book is a true must read for every anesthesiology
resident. It is the single best way to take the stress out of this
make-or-break exam, focus your study on nearly 200 must-know topics
found on the board exam outline, and identify your areas of
strength and weakness. Written by program directors with many years
of board examination advising experience, Anesthesiology Core
Review Part One: BASIC Exam is designed to be the cornerstone of
your study preparation. Each chapter of Anesthesiology Core Review
succinctly summarizes key concepts in basic science and clinical
anesthesia practice. Space is conveniently provided throughout the
book to add notes from other study resources. Anesthesiology Core
Review Part One: BASIC Exam is logical divided into four sections:
Basic Science Clinical Sciences Organ-Based Sciences Special Issues
in Anesthesiology (covering important topics such as
professionalism and licensure, ethics, and patient safety) With its
expert authorship and concise yet thorough coverage, Anesthesiology
Core Review Part One: BASIC Exam is biggest step you can take to
assure effective preparation for the new ABA BASIC Examination.
As the global population lives to an increasing older age, there is
a need to research, develop and deliver appropriate anaesthesia and
pain management care to these increasingly frail and vulnerable
patients. This book provides a comprehensive and detailed overview
of all aspects of anaesthesia for the elderly patient looking at
the effect of ageing on the systems of the body and the role that
age has on drug mechanisms. Designed for both consultants and
trainees who care for elderly patients, chapters address the
clinical management of the older patient in pain, trauma, intensive
care as well as anaesthesia for all aspects of surgery. The expert
author team use their experience to provide a practical and
stimulating book which informs everyday clinical activity and
explores the unanswered questions which face anaesthetists in this
changing patient population. This book will give all consultants
and trainees a thorough grounding in this growing and demanding
area of anaesthetic practice.
