More Notable Names in Anaesthesia edited by Alistair McKenzie is a
follow-on volume to Notable Names in Anaesthesia edited by J. Roger
Maltby (2002). It includes eponyms used on a daily basis in the
practice of anaesthesiology. Some of these in alphabetical order
are: Aintree intubation catheter, Heidbrink valve, Luer-lock, PCA,
pulse oximeter, Ritchie whistle, Seldinger wire, Sprotte spinal
needle, TCI, Vienna score and Yankauer sucker. The origins of these
names and short biographies of the men and women are readily
available by dipping into the alphabetical arrangement. The book
also features numerous eponymous awards and lectures arranged by
societies and colleges of anaesthesiology across the globe as well
as famous museums and textbooks. There are 72 entries, but some
include more than one name, so the total number of biographies is
74, provided by eleven authors; McKenzie himself contributed 62 of
the entries. More Notable Names in Anaesthesia should appeal to
both medical and veterinary anaesthetists, operating department
practitioners, nurses, medical students and anyone passionate about
the history of medicine.
Do you want to improve your teaching skills in graduate medical
education? This book provides suggestions and practical examples
for teaching in the Pre-Anesthesia Clinic, the Operating Room, the
Pain Clinic, and the ICU. Designed to help the reader become a more
efficient and effective teacher, it also provides best practice
suggestions for teaching airway management, regional anesthesia,
transesophageal echocardiography, and newer technologic
advancements such as point-of-care ultrasound. Based on research in
education, this book provides information for all medical
educators, including creating the optimal learning environment,
teaching clinical reasoning, using multimedia and simulation,
making the classroom interactive, and the significance of
test-enhanced learning, while presenting specific examples of each.
Chapters include teaching professionalism, preparing residents to
be teachers, teaching quality and safety, providing feedback, and
teaching residents how to read the literature. This volume
emphasizes providing practical suggestions from recognized leaders
in each of the areas discussed.
This text is a comprehensive revision tool for trainees preparing
for examinations in anaesthesiology. Presented in question and
answer format, the book provides a selection of 50 long and short
cases in line with current curricula. Each case presents a
different topic covering anaesthesia associated with a range of
different disorders in all systems of the body, and in different
sectors of the population. Cases cover both routine and more
complicated procedures in common and less common disorders. The
text is further enhanced by more than 60 photographs and diagrams
to assist learning and revision. Key points Comprehensive revision

neonate; Anesthesia for the patient on mechanical circulatory
support; Anesthesia for the patient with severe liver failure;
Anesthesia for the patient on renal replacement therapy; Anesthesia
for neurosurgical emergencies; Anesthesia for obstetrical
disasters; Anesthesia for the patient in septic shock; Anesthesia
for a patient with extensive trauma; Anesthesia for endocrine
emergencies; Anesthetic management in malignant hyperthermia;
Anesthesia for electroconvulsive therapy; Anesthesia for the

There currently is a clear tendency to an increasing number of
accidental injuries in elderly people, in sport injuries and car
crashes also in countries which recently joined the European Union
and candidates to join the European Union. Patients expect very
good functional results even after serious injuries. But in
contrast to this development, Trauma Surgery as an independent
field, is not yet established in all European countries. Therefore,
it seems mandatory to compile a book that covers the
state-of-the-art in Trauma Surgery. The book also serves to
harmonise the practice of Trauma Surgery within the European Union,
and to prepare for the exam of the U.E.M.S.

Automated Drug Delivery in Anesthesia provides a full review of
available tools and methods on the drug delivery of anesthesia,
bridging the gap between academic development, research and
clinical practice. The book takes an interdisciplinary approach,
pulling information about tools developed in other disciplines such
as mathematics, physics, biology and system engineering and
applying them to drug delivery. The book's authors discuss the
missing element of complete regulatory loop of anesthesia: the
sensor and model for pain pathway assessment. This is the only book
which focuses specifically on the delivery of anesthesia.
