New Theory and Design of Ellipsoidal Heads for Pressure Vessels (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2021): Jinyang Zheng, Keming Li New Theory and Design of Ellipsoidal Heads for Pressure Vessels (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2021)
Jinyang Zheng, Keming Li
R4,631 Discovery Miles 46 310 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book is the first monograph focusing on ellipsoidal heads, which are commonly used as an end closure of pressure vessels in chemical, petroleum, nuclear, marine, aerospace and food processing industries. It provides a comprehensive coverage of stress, failure, design and fabrication of ellipsoidal heads. This book investigates in detail buckling/plastic collapse behaviors of ellipsoidal heads using nonlinear finite element methods and experiments. Buckling/plastic collapse experiments are performed on 37 ellipsoidal heads which cover various geometric parameters, material and fabrication methods. In particular, modern measurement technologies, such as 3D laser scanning, are used in the experiments of these ellipsoidal heads including large heads with a diameter up to 5 metres. Moreover, this book presents new formulas for accurate prediction of buckling/plastic collapse pressures of ellipsoidal heads. Using elastic-plastic theory, this book proposes a new failure mechanism-based method for design of ellipsoidal heads. Compared to other methods in current codes and standards based on elastic or perfectly plastic theory, the new design method can fully develop the head's load-carrying capacity, which reduces head thickness and thus cost. Also, this book studies control on fabrication quality of ellipsoidal heads, including shape deviation, forming strain and forming temperature. It is useful as a technical reference for researchers and engineers in the fields of engineering mechanics, engineering design, manufacturing engineering and industrial engineering.

Systems-Level Packaging for Millimeter-Wave Transceivers (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2019): Mladen Bozanic, Saurabh Sinha Systems-Level Packaging for Millimeter-Wave Transceivers (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2019)
Mladen Bozanic, Saurabh Sinha
R2,682 Discovery Miles 26 820 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book provides a system-level approach to making packaging decisions for millimeter-wave transceivers. In electronics, the packaging forms a bridge between the integrated circuit or individual device and the rest of the electronic system, encompassing all technologies between the two. To be able to make well-founded packaging decisions, researchers need to understand a broad range of aspects, including: concepts of transmission bands, antennas and propagation, integrated and discrete package substrates, materials and technologies, interconnects, passive and active components, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of various packages and packaging approaches, and package-level modeling and simulation. Packaging also needs to be considered in terms of system-level testing, as well as associated testing and production costs, and reducing costs. This peer-reviewed work contributes to the extant scholarly literature by addressing the aforementioned concepts and applying them to the context of the millimeter-wave regime and the unique opportunities that this transmission approach offers.

Mathematical Modeling of Inland Vessel Maneuverability Considering Rudder Hydrodynamics (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020): Jialun Liu Mathematical Modeling of Inland Vessel Maneuverability Considering Rudder Hydrodynamics (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020)
Jialun Liu
R2,673 Discovery Miles 26 730 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book demonstrates that different rudder configurations have different hydrodynamic characteristics, which are influenced by the profile, the parameters, and the specific configuration. The author proposes new regression formulas to help naval architects quickly estimate the rudder-induced forces and moments in maneuvering. Furthermore, the author proposes and validates an integrated maneuvering model for both seagoing ships and inland vessels. Using the proposed regression formulas and maneuvering model, the specific impacts of rudder configurations on inland vessel maneuverability are studied. In turn, the book demonstrates the application of Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) simulations to obtain rudder hydrodynamic characteristics, and the integration of the RANS results into maneuvering models as an accurate estimation of rudder forces and moments needed to quantify the impacts of rudder configurations on ships' maneuvering performance. In addition, the author proposes new criteria for the prediction and evaluation of inland vessel maneuverability. Simulations of ships with various rudder configurations are presented, in order to analyze the impacts of rudder configurations on ship maneuverability in different classic and proposed test maneuvers. Offering essential guidance on the effects of rudders for inland vessel maneuverability, and helping practical engineers make informed design choices, the book is of interest to researchers and academics in the field of naval engineering, as well as students of naval architecture. Industrial practitioners working on ship design may also find it beneficial.

Kenneth B Ackerman
R7,970 Discovery Miles 79 700 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This is a fourth edition of a work first published in 1983. It contains the same number of chapters as the third edition, published in 1990. However, it has a substantial amount of new material. Major changes in warehousing in the last seven years have caused appropriate changes in the content of this text. Nearly three decades have passed since our first published writing about warehousing. The goal of our early writing was to develop a better understanding between the third-party warehouse operator and the user of these services. Today the emphasis has changed to a work that provides the tools that every warehouse manager needs. This book intends to be a comprehensive handbook consisting of everything we know that would help the manager of warehouses. Much of the information is based upon materials previously used in Warehousing Forum, our monthly subscription newsletter. While the work is designed primarily as a handbook for manag ers, it also serves as a guide for students. It is based upon my experience, both as a warehousing manager and executive, and later as a management advisor. The work is designed as a management reference for anyone involved in operating, using, constructing, or trading in industrial warehouses."
