Handbook of HIV Medicine represents the knowledge, skill and experience of more than sixty experts in HIV medicine, making it the definitive reference book for southern Africa.
This third edition remains invaluable for doctors, medical students, and primary health care workers, presenting an updated approach to critical issues. It is ideal for quick reference in urban and rural clinics and hospital wards.
The handbook is targeted specifically at the needs of the developing world and contains guidelines on antiretroviral therapy, HIV emergencies, and adult and paediatric HIV medicine.
Cancer glycobiology is a blazing hot area of cancer research with
aberrant post-translational glycosylations on lipids and proteins
considered critical for cancer development and metastasis. The
NIH/NCI Alliance of Glycobiologists for Cancer Research is a
consortium of (10) tumor glycobiology laboratories funded to
investigate how cancer-associated glycans (CAG) impact the
development and metastasis of cancer. The hope of this momentous
effort is to discover CAGs for use as novel biomarkers to detect
early-stage cancer or its aggressive behavior or, alternatively, as
novel molecular targets with the promise of a curative approach to
cancer therapy. The mission of the 'Alliance' is to study structure
and function of CAGs in cancer development and to provide
clinically useful biomarkers for detecting cancer early or the
potential of metastasis. This charge has stimulated extensive
collaborations across US and International institutions to
accelerate discovery of glycan-based biomarkers to the forefront of
NCI's efforts to diagnose early-stage cancer and provide curative
anti-cancer therapies. The main goals of these research efforts
are: 1. To identify and study how cancer-associated glycans
functionally impact cancer growth and metastasis 2. To identify
cancer-associated glycans that can serve as biomarkers for the
detection or progression of cancer 3. To develop cancer-associated
glycans as novel therapeutic targets for the treatment and cure of
cancer This volume consists of (9) chapters, one from each funded
laboratory, that reviews new methods and mechanisms highlighting
glycoconjugates and their roles as cancer biomarkers and/or
anti-cancer therapeutic targets.
Strategies to Mitigate the Toxicity of Cancer Therapeutics, Volume
155 in the Advances in Cancer Research series, highlights new
advances in the field, with this new volume presenting interesting
chapters, each of which is written by an international board of
authors.
A companion book to the best-selling Immunity Food Fix, The
Immunity Food Fix Cookbook delivers 75 delicious superfood recipes
that support your body's natural defenses. Studies have shown that
nutrition impacts immunity and disease development. What you put on
your plate can either heal you or hurt you. The Immunity Food
FixCookbook gives you superfood recipes that naturally support
robust immunity. Aside from being accessible and delicious, food is
less expensive than medication and free of side effects and, unlike
supplements, has the most complete form of the nutrient. While
adding the top immune-supportive foods to your diet individually
can provide benefit, recipes and meals give you the opportunity to
combine different immune superfoods for maximum nutrient density,
absorption, and flavor appeal. Recipes are organized around the 5
key pillars of immune support: reversing inflammation,
detoxification, antioxidants, digestion and microbiome health, and
hormone balance and signaling. Supporting your immunity has never
been so appealing. Inside, you'll find delicious whole food
recipes, including gluten-free, dairy-free, and grain options.

The Immune System is a concise yet thorough human-oriented
introduction to how the human immune system works. It provides an
up-to-date presentation of the field, written in an accessible
style, replete with relevant medical examples. Plentiful
illustrations and micrographs complement and illuminate the
explanations. The Fifth Edition is supported by InQuizitive,
Norton's award-winning, easy-to-use adaptive learning tool that

Volume Immunodeficiency Diseases in Springer's gold-standard
reference work on medical immunology focuses on infectious
diseases. In tandem with its three counterpart volumes it offers
the most wide-ranging and authoritative repository of knowledge on
infectious diseases, with readily accessed contributions by the
world's leading authorities on the subject. The encyclopedia covers
the material from all angles, with more than 1000 pages of essays
on the genetics, physiology, metabolism, pathogenesis and applied
microbiology of all known infectious diseases, and includes access
to an e-reference work that will include ongoing updates reflecting
the latest advances in the field. An outstanding new resource of
immense value to a wide range of medical researchers and
practitioners, the encyclopedia features a user-friendly
subdivision of diseases according to their affective locus in the
human body. The sections cover integumentary, skeletal,
respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive transmissible
pathogens. This high-profile encyclopedia will be an essential
addition to academic libraries worldwide.
This is a timely and essential companion to the recently published
Antimicrobial Resistance in the 21st Century, Second Edition.
Antimicrobial resistance is a major threat to global population
health, with government reports projecting it could result in over
10 million deaths in the next 35 years. Development of new agents
to combat this threat is one of the WHO's top priorities, but in
2017, it conceded that the current drug development pipeline was
insufficient to mitigate the threat. This book discusses recent
progress and bolster new agent discovery and development, by
providing researchers and students who will soon enter the field
with a thorough guide to the advancements made in the last
decade. Coverage includes new systemic antimicrobials
approved since 2010, with detailed analysis of antibiotics,
antivirals, antifungals, and antiparasitics, as well as agents in
development for future use. Discussion of each drug will include
its chemical nature, pharmacology/pharmacokinetics, antimicrobial
spectrum, dosage, adverse reactions, drug interactions, microbial
resistance, indications, clinical efficacy compared to older
agents, and lists of similar agents with cost
comparison. This volume is designed for researchers and
students of infectious disease and medical microbiology, as well as
clinicians in need of a comprehensive guide to newly developed
agents.Â
