The Radiology Technologist's Handbook to Surgical Procedures (Hardcover): Anthony C. Anderson The Radiology Technologist's Handbook to Surgical Procedures (Hardcover)
Anthony C. Anderson
R6,757 Discovery Miles 67 570 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

In the past several years, the rapid development of sophisticated imaging modalities has made radiology the fastest growing specialty in medicine. It is important for the radiologic technologist to keep pace with technology's advancements.

The influx of freestanding outpatient facilities and the demands of insurance companies, HMOs and third party reimbursement have brought about change. Medical facilities have begun to call upon nurses, surgical technicians, and other non-radiologic personnel to assist with patient positioning during surgical procedures requiring imaging-creating a need for a concise, how-to guide to performing surgical procedures.

The Radiology Technologist's Handbook to Surgical Procedures provides a quick reference for using fluoroscopic and x-ray equipment during surgical procedures. This book includes detailed descriptions and photographs taken in actual clinical settings.

By using this manual as a foundation, the radiologic technologist will be able to master many of the operating room x-ray procedures.

An Introduction to Radiobiology 2e (Paperback, 2nd Edition): A.H.W. Nias An Introduction to Radiobiology 2e (Paperback, 2nd Edition)
A.H.W. Nias
R3,473 Discovery Miles 34 730 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This new edition of A.H.W. Nias’ successful book provides an updated and revised introduction to quantitative radiobiology, particularly, to those aspects of the subject which have a practical application. Radiation is used to cure cancer but can also cause it. Radiation is also used in medical diagnosis and in nuclear power stations. In these areas, where questions of benefit and detriment arise, the biological effects of the radiation can now be predicted. There are few aspects of life where risk estimates are so firmly founded on quantitative data. This is not only because of the precision with which radiation dose can be measured but also because of the large body of radiobiological observations which have been made since X-rays were discovered. Written by a scientist with many years experience in the field, An Introduction to Radiobiology will appeal to a wide variety of readers who need to understand the mechanisms by which ionizing radiation causes cellular damage. It will be of interest to technologists in radiation therapy, nuclear medicine and diagnostic radiography, cancer research students and technicians, medical physicists, trainee radiotherapists and nuclear medicine specialists.

Reviews of the First Edition: "In summary, this is an excellent general text that should fill an important gap in many teaching needs, especially those where the major focus is on the biological effects of radiation on humans." Journal of the National Cancer Institute "This is undoubtedly one of the better introductions to the subject which I have read, and I would certainly recommend it not only to beginners but also to mature students of the subject." The British Journal of Radiology

Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) continues to undergo exciting technological advances that are rapidly being translated into clinical practice. It also has evident advantages over other imaging modalities, including CT angiography and ultrasonography. With the aid of numerous high-quality illustrations, this book reviews the current role of MRA of the body. It is divided into three sections. The first section is devoted to issues relating to image acquisition technique and sequences, which are explored in depth. The second and principal section addresses the clinical applications of MRA in various parts of the body, including the neck vessels, the spine, the thoracic aorta and pulmonary vessels, the heart and coronary arteries, the abdominal aorta and renal arteries, and peripheral vessels. The final section considers the role of MRA in patients undergoing liver or pancreas and kidney transplantation. This book will be an invaluable aid to all radiologists who work with MRA.

Radiology Life Support (RAD-LS) - A Practical Approach (Paperback): William Bush Jr Radiology Life Support (RAD-LS) - A Practical Approach (Paperback)
William Bush Jr
R1,013 Discovery Miles 10 130 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

'Radiology Life Support' focuses on the adverse effects and life-threatening emergencies caused by reactions to the contrast media used in every modern radiology department. Such reactions are relatively infrequent yet can be severe and are therefore difficult to identify and then handle safely without training. All radiologists will experience at least a few such reactions throughout their career. This book teaches proper recognition and treatment of adverse contrast reactions, proper use of sedation and analgesic agents, proper management of an airway in an emergency situation and principle concepts in basic and advanced life support (including early defibrilation). The text is based on the successful training course run by the editors and sponsored by the American Roentgen Ray Society. Adverse reactions to contrast agents are somewhat difficult for physicians without practice to identify and then handle effectively. This volume is a useful aid to the identification process.

F. Cohadon, V. V. Dolenc, J. Lobo Antunes, H Nornes, J.D. Pickard, …
R4,051 Discovery Miles 40 510 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

As an addition to the European postgraduate training system for young neurosurgeons we began to publish in 1974 this series of Advances and Technical Standards in Neurosurgery which was later sponsored by the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies. This series was first discussed in 1972 at a combined meeting of the Italian and German Neurosurgical Societies in Taormina, the founding fathers of the series being Jean Brihaye, Bernard Pertuiset, Fritz Loew and Hugo KrayenbtihI. Thus were established the principles of European co operation which have been born from the European spirit, flourished in the European Association, and have throughout been associated with this series. The fact that the English language is well on the way to becoming the international medium at European scientific conferences is a great asset in terms of mutual understanding. Therefore we have decided to publish all contributions in English, regardless of the native language of the authors. All contributions are submitted to the entire editorial board before publi cation of any volume. Our series is not intended to compete with the publications of original scientific papers in other neurosurgical journals. Our intention is, rather, to present fields of neurosurgery and related areas in which important recent advances have been made. The contributions are written by specialists in the given fields and constitute the first part of each volume.
