500 light meals is a book full of delicious recipes which are designed to be healthy and low in calories. This is not specifically a diet book, but instead is designed to support and to inspire those who want to watch their food intake, but do not want to count each calorie. For this reason the meals in the book are not calorie counted but as a rough guide, per por tion, main courses are well under 500 calories, lighter dishes under 350, and desser ts and baked goods, no more than 300 calories. The objective behind the recipes is to cook some familiar and some new and creative meals using less fat and sugar than usual but without compromising on flavor and texture. The recipes generally use minimal amounts of cooking oils or low-fat cooking sprays, non-fat or low-fat dair y products, and lean meats, as well as utilizing clever tricks and substitutions to omit or reduce high-fat and high-cholesteral ingredients. These techniques are mentioned many of the introductions to the recipes and can be adapted for use in other recipes which you like to make, helping you to become a lighter, healthier cook.

AS HEARD ON THE CHRIS EVANS BREAKFAST SHOW - "It's not just for runners. It's for life! It's a great story." When Chris McDougall stumbled across the story of Churchill's 'dirty tricksters', a motley crew of English poets and academics who helped resist the Nazi invasion of Crete, he knew he was on the track of something special. To beat the odds, the tricksters-starving, aging, outnumbered-tapped into an ancient style of fitness: the lost art of heroism. They listened to their instincts, replaced calories with stored bodily fat and used their fascia, the network of tissue which criss-crosses the body, to catapult themselves to superhuman strength and endurance. Soon McDougall was in the middle of a modern fitness revolution taking place everywhere from Parisian parkour routes to state-of-the-art laboratories, and based on the know-how of Shanghai street-fighters and Wild West gunslingers. Just as Born to Run got runners off the treadmill and into nature, Natural Born Heroes will inspire casual athletes to dump the gym membership for cross-training, mud runs and free-running.
You might run for fitness. You might run for speed. But ultimately, running is about much more than the physical act itself. It is about the challenges we face in life, and how we measure up to them. It is about companionship, endurance, ambition, hope, conviction, determination, self-respect and inspiration. It is about how we choose to live our lives, and what it means to share our values with other people. In this year-long memoir, which might be described as a historian's take on Haruki Murakami's What I Talk About When I Talk About Running, the celebrated historian Ian Mortimer considers the meaning of running as he approaches his fiftieth birthday. From injuries and frustrated ambitions to exhilaration and empathy, it is a personal and yet universal account of what running means to people, and how it helps everyone focus on what really matters.
"In pursuing the mental side of endurance, Jurek uncovers the most
important secrets any runner can learn."--Amby Burfoot, author of
"The Runner's Guide to the Meaning of Life"

The Secrets to Healing, Resilience and Immunity With the Most Powerful Natural Medicine in History From the bestselling author of Keto Diet Long before the first pharmaceutical companies opened their doors in the 1850s, doctors treated people, not symptoms. And although we've become used to popping pills, patients have finally had it with the dangerous side effects, addiction and over-prescribing - and they're desperate for an alternative. Here's the good news: that alternative has been here all along in the form of ancient treatments used for eons in traditional Chinese, Ayurvedic and Greek medicine. Ancient Remedies for Modern Life is the first comprehensive layman's guide that will bring together and explain to the masses the very best of these time-tested practices. Bestselling author Dr. Axe explores the foundational concepts of ancient healing - eating right for your type and living in sync with your circadian clock. Readers will learn how traditional practitioners identified the root cause of each patient's illness, then treated it with medicinal herbs, mushrooms, CBD, essential oils and restorative mind-body practices. What's more, they'll discover how they can use these ancient treatments themselves to cope with dozens of diseases, from ADHD to diabetes, hypothyroidism, autoimmune disease and beyond. Through engaging language and accessible explanations, Ancient Remedies for Modern Life offers readers everything they need to know about getting, and staying, healthy - without toxic, costly synthetic drugs.
