Coach Education and Development in Sport - Instructional Strategies (Hardcover): Bettina Callary, Brian Gearity Coach Education and Development in Sport - Instructional Strategies (Hardcover)
Bettina Callary, Brian Gearity
R4,143 Discovery Miles 41 430 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Global interest in quality sport coaching is at an all-time high, but until now, there hasn't been a go-to resource to help national governing bodies, sport organizations, or coach educators within universities to structure coach education, learning, and development. Coach Education and Development in Sport fills that gap, offering a comprehensive guide of instructional strategies used by world leaders in coach education. Each chapter is written by experienced scholar-practitioners, seamlessly integrating personal experience and insight with current research to show how and why to use an instructional strategy in a specific context that can be adopted or adapted to fit many sport contexts. Covering essential topics such as reflective practice, social learning, online technology, diverse populations, and more, the book provides the fundamentals of tried and trusted instructional strategies to develop coaches from youth, club and collegiate sport to elite, professional, and Olympic levels. It is a complete resource for fostering coaching excellence in small- and large-scale programming, and from volunteer to part-time or full-time coaches. Designed to stimulate ideas and provide flexible, practical tools, this book is an essential read for anybody working in sport, including coach developers, sport managers, coaches, mentors, athletic directors, sport psychology consultants, and teachers or professors.

Team Sports Training - The Complexity Model (Hardcover): Javier Mallo Team Sports Training - The Complexity Model (Hardcover)
Javier Mallo
R4,134 Discovery Miles 41 340 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Team Sports Training: The Complexity Model presents a novel approach to team sports training, examining football (soccer), rugby union, field hockey, basketball, handball and futsal through the paradigm of complexity. Under a traditional prism, these sports have been analysed using a deterministic perspective, where the constituent dimensions of the sportsmen were independently examined and treated in isolation. It was expected that the body worked as a perfect machine and, once all the components were maximised, the sportsmen improved their performance. If the same closed recipe was applied to all of the players who formed part of the squad, the global team performance was expected to be enhanced. As much as these reductionist models seem coherent, when contrasted in practice we see that the reality of team sports is far more different from the closed conditions in which they were idealised. Team sports contain variable, heterogeneous and non-linear constraints which require the development of a different logic to organise their training. During the last few years, ecological psychology, the dynamical systems theory or the constraints-led approach have opened interesting fields of research from which many conceptual foundations can be applied to team sports. Based on this contemporary framework, the current book presents the study of the players and the teams as complex systems, using coordination dynamics to explain the emergence of the self-organisation episodes that characterise them. In addition, this thinking line provides the reader with the ability to apply all of these innovative concepts to their practical training scenarios. Altogether, it is intended to challenge the reader to re-think their training strategy and to develop an original theory and practice of training specific to team sports.

Tally Rye
R283 Discovery Miles 2 830 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Personal Trainer and Broadcaster Tally Rye is one of the key figures in the global intuitive fitness movement. In her first book, Train Happy she encouraged us to change the way we think about exercise, teaching readers to approach movement with a mindset of self-care rather than self-punishment and in doing so to rediscover the joy in eating and moving more mindfully. In The Train Happy Journal, Tally builds upon the core principles of intuitive movement from self-care, body acceptance and body positivity to intuitive eating with interactive exercises and journal prompts to help readers reflect upon their relationship with fitness, think about how it has been influenced by Diet Culture and ultimately get them feeling good about moving their body. The journal is interwoven with colourful illustration and expert advice as well as inspiring quotes and testimonies from a cross section of representational voices - with room for the reader to document the inner work intrinsic to a successful intuitive movement journey.

The 36 Deadly Bubishi Points - The Science and Technique of Pressure Point Fighting - Defend Yourself Against Pressure Point... The 36 Deadly Bubishi Points - The Science and Technique of Pressure Point Fighting - Defend Yourself Against Pressure Point Attacks! (Paperback)
Cardwell; Foreword by McCarthy
R415 R334 Discovery Miles 3 340 Save R81 (20%) Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Learn how to target the weaknesses of an attacker and effectively exploit them in order to defend yourself. The 36 Deadly Bubishi Points gives detailed explanations on how the pressure points of traditional Chinese medicine found in the Bubishi, the venerable "Bible of Karate," are used in attacking an opponent and how to defend yourself against such attacks. This book closely examines these vital points and the science behind them. While much has been written about the vital points and their medicinal importance, thanks to the popularity of practices such as acupuncture, martial research on the subject has been lacking. Cardwell discusses the vital points from the perspective of an experienced martial artist--including how the body's vital points are related to the 8 extraordinary vessels and 12 meridians which circulate energy throughout the body. Through detailed step-by-step instructions and over 96 photographs and illustrations, The 36 Deadly Bubishi Points shows how this knowledge can be employed in self-defense. Respond to an attacker by employing these ancient methods in modern, violent situations.

School Physical Education and Teacher Education - Collaborative Redesign for the 21st Century (Hardcover): Ann Macphail, Hal... School Physical Education and Teacher Education - Collaborative Redesign for the 21st Century (Hardcover)
Ann Macphail, Hal Lawson
R4,132 Discovery Miles 41 320 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Setting a common international agenda for physical education, this book asks how physical education and physical education teacher education can be reconfigured together so that they are responsive to changes in today's fast-paced, diverse and uncertain global society. It argues that only a revolutionary move away from national policy silos can reinvigorate physical education and lead to improved, equitable outcomes for children and youth, and both novice and veteran teachers. Drawing on developing success stories in diverse places, this book emphasizes three important strategies: international-comparative analyses, which facilitate cross-border knowledge generation, innovation, professional learning and continuous improvement; solid, dynamic partnerships between teacher education programmes and exemplary school physical education programmes; and knowledge-generating teams consisting of exemplary teachers and teacher educators. Each chapter provides viable alternatives and rationales framed by unique national and local contexts. Significantly, these chapters announce that the work that lies ahead - and starts now - is a collective action project. It necessitates collaborative research and development among policy leaders, researchers, teacher education specialists, physical education teachers and, in some cases, school-age students. This is essential reading for all researchers with an interest in physical education or teacher education, and an invaluable source of new perspectives for physical education students, pre-service and in-service teachers, and educational administrators and policymakers.

Sport, Events, Tourism and Regeneration (Paperback): Nicholas Wise, John Harris Sport, Events, Tourism and Regeneration (Paperback)
Nicholas Wise, John Harris
R1,288 Discovery Miles 12 880 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Investments in sport, events and tourism in cities and wider regions are part of nascent regeneration strategies linked to transitioning economic bases and place images. While it is important to consider physical regeneration, there is a range of subsequent benefits and opportunities brought about through regeneration that considers social impacts, communities and how investments and developments influence how people interact in transformed spaces. This book brings together a collection focusing on the diverse range of approaches and perspectives of regeneration. Twelve chapters outline and bring together critical perspectives of regeneration from scholars in different parts of the world. This collection critically assesses some of the key factors impacting upon regeneration initiatives in relation to sport, events and tourism. By doing so, this book assesses if new opportunities have arisen from developments, increasing the demands and needs of locals and tourists, or if transformations result in exclusion - thus challenging who regeneration is for. This book will be valuable reading for students and academics interested in tourism studies, events planning, sport and leisure studies or development studies, as well as the wider social sciences.
