Cold Press/ ’Not' surface - slightly textured surface. It is the most popular surface for watercolour painters as it allows for a little texture in your work. Good for large areas of wash but also for detail. For more than 50 years Seawhite has been supplying UK artists. They are a family business based in Partridge Green, West Sussex, not far from Brighton where the business began. They also have the Seawhite Studio - a modern painting studio with art classes run by Emily Ball.
Pastel artists will love the unique sanded surface texture of Mi-Teintes Touch as it allows for many creative possibilities and layering of pigments. Fabriano Academia drawing paper is made of high quality lignin free and acid free cellulose, guaranteeing long conservation over time. Produced with 100% of E.C.F. pulp (Elemental Chlorine Free), F.S.C. certified (©1996 Forest Stewardship Council A.C.) from forests responsibly managed respectful of environmental, social and economic standards. Its internal and external sizing renders it resistant to repeated erasures. It is recommended for artists and amateurs for sketching and drawing with pencil, charcoal, pastel, coloured pencil and ink. Its 200 g/m2 is also suitable for gouache.
Fabriano Artistico watercolour paper is mould made and is produced with 100% cotton. It is chlorine and acid free, guaranteeing long conservation and inalterability over time. The paper is sized both internally and externally, making it ideally absorbent and retaining its nature unaltered even if scratched. This paper is traditional white, without optical bleaching.
Bockingford is a beautiful English watercolour paper, traditionally made on a cylinder mould machine at St Cuthberts Mill. This is a high quality paper made using pure materials to archival standards.The surface is created using natural woollen felts that give it a distinctive random texture. Appreciated for its excellent colour lifting abilities. This is an extremely forgiving watercolour paper valued by professional and amateur artists around the world.
Suitable for all printmaking techniques, Fabriano Unica originates from the many centuries of experience gained by the Fabriano paper mills and developed in collaboration with a group of artists from the Opificio della Rosa, an international centre dedicated to the awareness and spread of traditional and innovative methods of printmaking. Fourdrinier made, 50% cotton, acid free paper. Flexible and resistant. Also suitable for drawing mediums such as graphite, charcoal and pencil.
The Hahnemühle Lana Colour range is a 45% cotton rag paper which is textured on one side and smooth on the other. The 160gsm weight paper contains 45% cotton which will allow for extra scraping and rubbing back, making it a durable surface to create your pastel paintings on. This popular paper is available in an excellent mix of soft muted tones and greys, with a number of bright colours too. The surface is acid-free (except for black) and is often used in papercutting and layered techniques. It is also suitable for oil and soft pastels, pencil, chalk, charcoal, felt tip, ink and gouache. Please note: the minimum order quantity for the paper in this range is 5 sheets.

Pastelmat is a premium card surface (360gsm / 170lb) specially developed for pastelists. Its unique velvety surface, made from a fine coating of cellulose fibers, has the ability to grab and hold multiple layers of even the softest pastels. Pastelmat significantly reduces the need for fixative, which means that colors remain vibrant and fresh once applied. It has the added bonus of being gentle on both fingers and blending tools. It is acid free and lightfast. Pastelmat is ideal for use with all dry media - pastel sticks, PanPastel, pencils and charcoal. It is also water resistant which means that it can be used with wet media – such as acrylics and watercolor for washes and mixed media techniques.This Pastelmat Pad contains twelve white Pastelmat sheets.Please note: PastelMat are sometimes subject to some small spotting and discolouration. Fabriano Black Black Card is a range of acid-free sheets and pads containing uncoated card made with ECF cellulose pulp. The card is characterised by a very deep black colour due to the high quality and lightfast pigments used in its production.Flexible and resistant it is ideal for pastel, colour pencils, markers, passe-partout and portfolio presentations.The pads contain 20 sheets of 300gsm card and are available in a selection of sizes: A4, A3, A2, 20 x 20cm and 24 x 32cm.
Fabriano Sketchbooks contain 60 sheets of 160gsm acid-free natural grain paper. Sewn bound, the black hardcover is washable. Available in landscape and portrait formats. Ideal for pencil, ink, pastel, pen and gouache.
The Hahnemühle Grey Book is a 40 sheet sketchbook bound in a lightly textured, anthracite-coloured board cover. The paper is a 120gsm light grey sketch paper which is acid-free. The paper is suitable for working with Indian ink, dip pens, fineliners and acrylic markers as well as other water-based pens with a light flow of ink. Because it is a mid-tone paper, it will take both dark tones and highlights.The paper has an extremely smooth almost glossy surface, and is not suitable for soft pastel or coloured pencil. It is a non-absorbent surface and is not suitable for even light washes.This book is thread stitched and bound so that it is possible to work on two contiguous pages, across the centre seam. The book has a red bookmark ribbon.
Somerset is a world leading traditional printmaking paper. Mould made from 100% cotton to high archival standards. The surface has a gentle texture, soft and good-tempered nature, and is a strong and stable enough sheet to ensure excellent printing. It remains flat after printing and offers durability and long life to finished editions of work. All materials are screened in the mill to ensure minimal environmental effect. No hazardous chemicals are released into the water ways. Pulps are sourced from sustainable sources (no rainforests are harmed in making the papers), and the cotton linters are a by-product from the textile industry.
Hahnemuhle Velour is an artist-quality 260gsm pastel paper which is both acid-free and archival. It is composed of an acid-free backing sheet which has been coated with inert synthetic fibres. This gives the surface a velvety feel which has sufficient tooth to hold soft pastel, as well as oil pastel, charcoal or soft pencils.Because Velour can hold a lot of pastel, it is perfect for painterly pastel artists who create works with soft edges.This is a single sheet of Hahnemuhle Velour, measuring 50x70cm in the colour Dark Grey.

Yupo is a non-porous, acid free and pH neutral, synthetic paper which is machine made in the US from 100% polypropylene. It is completely waterproof, stain-resistant and has become a unique and intriguing alternative to traditional art papers due to its strength and lifting properties. The super smooth surface allows you to build up nuances and patterns that would normally be impossible to achieve on traditional watercolour and drawing paper. Because it can be wiped clean you have the option to return to specific areas and redo them until they meet your standards, or to build up layers of paint using a similar technique to the one used with oil painting. Yupo is made from heated polypropylene pellets which are then extruded to form the base and surface layers of the paper, These layers are stretched to create a dimensionally storable and biaxial-orientated substrate. This process means that Yupo paper is exceptionally strong, opaque and has an incredibly smooth surface. This paper easily resists tearing or buckling meaning there is no need to stretch or treat in any way before you start work. Yupo has an extra smooth surface and can be used with a combination of media, including watercolours alcohol ink, acrylic paint, monotype, offset printing, debossing oil pastel, graphite and silkscreen. As an especially durable synthetic, Yupo normally enters the waste stream at a far slower rate than conventional papers. Since it is a polypropylene (PP) plastic film, it is fully recyclable and will remain inert in any approved landfill. If safely incinerated in a modern incinerator with an atmosphere of excess oxygen, it will yield only water, carbon dioxide, and ash. "Yupo is very different to normal watercolour paper(But still make sure not to get greasy fingerprints on it) it stays flat, which is a great bonus, the paint can go mad; which is fun and you can pretty much rinse a sheet under a cold tap and start again. Masking fluid doesn't bond to the surface, so make sure it's dry before you rinse anything away as water will creep slightly under the masking fluid. It's very different, it's fun to play with and well worth trying." When you have completed a piece remember to spray the surface of the Yupo paper with a matt clear varnish or finishing spray so that the work will remain stable.
