The paper is gelatin-sized, and then air-dried, so that the colours retain a fine rendering even after being scraped and erased. Its natural whiteness (no optical bleaches), mildew protection and neutral PH mean that the paper has a very long shelf-life.

The Hahnemühle Grey Book is a 40 sheet sketchbook bound in a lightly textured, anthracite-coloured board cover. The paper is a 120gsm light grey sketch paper which is acid-free. The paper is suitable for working with Indian ink, dip pens, fineliners and acrylic markers as well as other water-based pens with a light flow of ink. Because it is a mid-tone paper, it will take both dark tones and highlights.The paper has an extremely smooth almost glossy surface, and is not suitable for soft pastel or coloured pencil. Stillman & Birn Delta softcover sketchbooks are flexible, yet strong with sewn bindings and are finished with rounded corners to prevent the edges from fraying. Ivory, extra-heavy weight 270gsm paper has a cold-press surface that is suitable for all dry media and ink.
