Robust Control System Design - Advanced State Space Techniques (Hardcover, 3rd edition): Chia-Chi Tsui Robust Control System Design - Advanced State Space Techniques (Hardcover, 3rd edition)
Chia-Chi Tsui
R3,804 Discovery Miles 38 040 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book presents a synthesized design principle versus the existing separation principle of modern control theory of over six decades since the start. Guided by this new principle, a generalized state feedback control can be designed based on the parameters of observer and for a great majority of plant systems, and the robust property of this control can be fully realized. The robust property of the existing state feedback control which is designed separate from the parameters of its realizing observer, cannot be realized for a great majority of plant systems. By freely design and adjust the observer order, the corresponding generalized state feedback control can unify completely the existing state feedback control and static output feedback control, and can adjust effectively the tradeoff between performance and robustness. This generalized state feedback control can assign eigen-structure, and can improve performance and robustness far more effectively than the control designed using classical control theory. Equally significant, the results of this book are very simple that can be comprehended and grasped very easily. These results are introduced and illustrated from the basic level, and use only the basic mathematical tools. Ample examples and exercise problems that can be solved by hand computation, are provided. This third edition made substantial improvement on this aspect. Modern control theoreticians only formulated the feedback control design problem in various ways, the point however is to really solve this problem.

Addressing a broad range of aspects related to the pros and cons of biokerosene as a renewable fuel for aviation, the book offers a unique resource.

Governance, Policy and Juxtaposition - A Maritime Perspective (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020): Michael Roe Governance, Policy and Juxtaposition - A Maritime Perspective (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020)
Michael Roe
R3,151 Discovery Miles 31 510 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book considers governance and policy-making within the maritime sector, and focuses significantly on the dimensional context within which governance works. Recognising the importance of understanding governance and policy at times when the world is faced with social, political, and economic problems, it highlights the fact that both areas are equally significant in understanding today's political economy. By focusing on the maritime sector, a pillar industry supporting international trade activities, the book offers a unique perspective to explain the difficulties of balancing policy-making with governance in order to provide solutions. It also examines the importance of developing a governance process that encourages and accommodates juxtaposition in a way that ensures that the effect of independent policy-making is understood upon the success or otherwise of policies across a range of contexts and problems. Given the in-depth nature of the text, it is of interest to academics, researchers and professionals in the field.

Jeremy Thake
R860 Discovery Miles 8 600 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Micro-hydro is a useful way of providing power to houses, workshops or villages that need an independent supply. For many remote areas beyond the reach of a national grid, micro-hydro is the only economic option. Where flow is limited, but high heads are available, the Pelton wheel is one of the most useful turbines. The Micro-hydro Pelton Turbine Manual is written to enable the reader to design and manufacture Pelton turbines with capacities from a few hundred Watts to around 100kw, though much of the information is relevant for larger units too. Aimed at readers with a general engineering workshop background, the emphasis is on simple technology, so that the turbines can be made in small workshops with basic engineering facilities. More advanced processes are discussed for those with access to better manufacturing facilities. As well as detailing all the important aspects of design, the book covers basic theory, turbine selection, manufacture, installation, testing and problem-solving. The manual is well illustrated and contains a comprehensive appendices, containing manufacturing reference information and the derivation of equations used. Jeremy Thake, a mechanical design engineer, has worked for the appropriate technology organization, DCS, in Nepal for six years in micro-hydro systems. He currently works for the renewable energy consultancy, IT Power.
