The User's Manual is a transformative guide to the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the 21st century, showing how these differ from those underlying Western medicine, what that means in practice and how we can help our bodies to heal themselves and thereby achieve a longer, healthier life. Books about TCM tend to be thousands of years old, very detailed and without reference to contemporary scientific knowledge. As a former computer engineer, Alex Wu draws parallels between the way a computer functions and the functioning of the human body in order to interpret the key concepts within Chinese medicine so that they become significantly easier to understand for today's readers. As he explains, Chinese medicine provides a dramatically different point of view to that of Western medicine, in particular its foundation belief that the body has a powerful self-healing system that must be nurtured and encouraged, not stifled with symptom-suppressing treatments. Taking the simple examples of gout, psoriasis, the common cold and today's obesity epidemic, the author explores the TCM and conventional medical approaches, showing how promoting body energy and self-healing can resolve the `incurable'. Alex Wu says: `Many readers have used the simple methods described in this book to achieve a healthy lifestyle and thereby improve their health within a short time... Modern medicine has not made significant advances in many chronic conditions for many years. It may be that the problem stems from its basic philosophy.' Here is an opportunity to look at health and medicine from a completely different point of view.

'This is an amazing up-close experience of the shamanic world based on the author's own real life experiences travelling through South Central and North America. Highly recommended.' - Yoga Magazine In 2010, Nick Polizzi did something unimaginable. He assembled a group of eight desperately ill patients from around the world and brought them into the heart of the Amazon rainforest to put the mysterious medicines of native shamans to the test. The healing journey that unfolded would change their lives - and his own - forever. In The Sacred Science, we join Nick as he explores these primordial traditions and learns firsthand what it takes to truly heal ourselves of physical disease, emotional trauma and the sense of 'lostness' that so many of us feel in these modern times. We venture into a place where the ordinary rules we live by, even survival instincts, don't apply - where 'the only thing to do is to step forward and be ready for anything'. Nick is not a guru or shaman; he is an ordinary guy who pieced together an illuminating journey, one experience at a time. In this riveting true story, we're shown the many layers that must be peeled away in order for us to find the truth of who we are and why we're here. This book is a bridge between the flashy, fast-moving modern world and the forgotten ways of a healthier, earth-connected ancestral past. You'll find practices and principles of native wisdom that you can put to use in your own life, and you'll gain a new understanding of what it means to heal. In the end, what will become of the eight patients who set out on this path with Nick? Will the exotic jungle medicines and harrowing rites of passage destroy them or give them a new lease on life? Five will return with remarkable healing results. Two will return disappointed. One won't return at all.
This book is a dictionary of British (native, naturalised and cultivated) plants and the folklore associated with them. Unlike many plant-lore publications Vickery's Folk Flora tells us what people currently do and believe, rather than what Victorians did and believed. The result is a vivid demonstration that plant folklore in the British Isles is not only surviving but flourishing; adapting and evolving as time goes by, even in urban areas. Each entry includes: - The plant's English and scientific (Latin) name, as well as significant local names. - A brief description of the plant and its distribution, and, in the case of cultivated plants, a history of their introduction to the British Isles - Information on the folklore and traditional uses of the plant, arranged where possible in a sequence starting with general folk beliefs (superstitions), use in traditional customs, use in folk medicine, other uses, and legends concerning individual representatives of the plant. In addition to the major entries there are a number of minor entries for feast days, diseases and other subjects which direct readers to relevant major entries, e.g. St. George's Day, on which red roses are worn; dandelions are gathered; and runner beans are planted.

Most cancer research dollars have been wasted by asking the
wrong questions, looking in the wrong places, and recycling the
same failed approaches while expecting different results.
Conventional cancer treatments damage health, cause new cancers,
lower the quality of life, and decrease the chances of survival. In
fact, most people who die from cancer are not dying from cancer,
but from their treatments

Everyone wants to know how to free themselves from the thyroid trap. As the thyroid has gotten more and more attention, though, these symptoms haven't gone away-people aren't healing. Labeling someone with "Hashimoto's," "hypothyroidism," or the like doesn't explain the myriad health issues that person may experience. That's because there's a pivotal truth that goes by unnoticed: A thyroid problem is not the ultimate reason for a person's illness. A problematic thyroid is yet one more symptom of something much larger than this one small gland in the neck. It's something much more pervasive in the body, something invasive, that's responsible for the laundry list of symptoms and conditions attributed to thyroid disease. In Medical Medium Thyroid Healing, Anthony William, the Medical Medium, reveals an entirely new take on the epidemic of thyroid illness. Empowering readers to become their own thyroid experts, he explains in detail what the source problem really is, including what's going on with inflammation, autoimmune disease, and dozens more symptoms and conditions, then offers a life-changing toolkit to rescue the thyroid and bring readers back to health and vitality. Henry, archdeacon of Huntingdon, England (c 1088-c 1154) has been admired for centuries as the author of the monumental Historia Anglorum. The recent discovery of the Anglicanus ortus opens a new window onto this important English author as well as onto the uses of poetry and the knowledge of medicine in medieval England. Written entirely in Latin verse, the Anglicanus ortus describes the medicinal uses of 160 different herbs, spices and vegetables. Henry drew on centuries of learned medicine to compose this work, employing the medical knowledge of ancient authors like Pliny the Elder and Dioscorides and of medieval scholars like Walahfrid Strabo, Macer Floridus and Constantine the African. This critical edition is based on the five extant manuscripts and includes a complete English translation on facing pages and a commentary on every poem. An extensive introduction describes the manuscript witnesses in detail, examines Henry's poetic skill and use of sources, and establishes the place of the Anglicanus ortus in a pivotal era in the history of medicine and natural philosophy.
