The world is a mad place and the various vicissitudes of life appear to make it more so. The inherent mutability in nature can swing from the serendipitous to surreal malignity within a matter of moments. In this day and age, events can be ephemeral or appear so prolonged we are left, agonisingly, to wonder if they will ever terminate at all. To be lost in such a bewildering universe, when it feels impossible to gather oneself, to take stock of the changeability or to bear the interminable, we feel impotent, overwhelmed and wrongfully abused. Sanity and Solitude is one man's ramble through these frightful absurdities and contradictions that appear to confront us at every turn. To understand insanity one has to travel oneself to the very fringes of insanity itself for better or for worse. "We are the clouds that veil the midnight moon; How restlessly they speed, and gleam, and quiver, Streaking the darkness radiantly --yet soon Night closes round, and they are lost forever." (Percy Bysshe Shelley)
Thought Vibration or the Law of Attraction in the Thought World by William Walker Atkinson In this New Thought classic, Atkinson looks at the law of attraction in the thought world. He points out the similarities between the law of gravitation and the mental law of attraction. He explains that thought vibrations are as real as those manifesting as light, heat, magnetism and electricity. The difference is in the vibratory rate which also explains the fact that thought vibrations cannot usually be perceived by our 5 senses. Contents: Law of attraction in the thought world; Thought-waves and their power of reproduction; About the mind; Mind building; Secret of the will; How to become immune to injurious thought attraction; Transmutation of negative thought; Law of mental control; Asserting the life force; Training the habit mind; Psychology of the emotions; Developing new brain cells; Attractive power-desire force; Law, not chance. Your Invisible Power by Genevieve Behrend This is a really inspiring book. It gets you focused on your dreams and goals with very simple to understand directions. View the Table of Contents. Read Chapter 1. "Auerbach and Silverstein write at a level that can be
understood by beginners but is sophisticated enough for
scholars...informative and interesting." Qualitative Data is meant for the novice researcher who needs guidance on what specifically to do when faced with a sea of information. It takes readers through the qualitative research process, beginning with an examination of the basic philosophy of qualitative research, and ending with planning and carrying out a qualitative research study. It provides an explicit, step-by-step procedure that will take the researcher from the raw text of interview data through data analysis and theory construction to the creation of a publishable work. The volume provides actual examples based on the authors' own work, including two published pieces in the appendix, so that readers can follow examples for each step of the process, from the project's inception to its finished product. The volume also includes an appendix explaining how to implement these data analysis procedures using NVIVO, a qualitative data analysis program.
Civilization, Beyond Our Fall explores the realities behind the rise and fall of historic civilizational ideals, especially on the fate of the Western vision. The book begins with the rise, durability, and fall of the historic civilizational profiles of humankind. It continues with the decline of the West, which from our perspective began with World War I and has continued at a faster pace in the 21st century. Itzkoff's prognosis for the next century or two is one of a dismal world of chaos, war, and deep pessimism throughout the world. The book concludes with a prediction of a world of scientific rationalism that will discard the ideologies, irrationalism, and selfishness that now characterize our elites. Here we leave dystopian realities for the perennial human hope of reason and for highly creative communities.
As much as we may not want to admit it, death is a part of life. When Jesse Kalfel discovered that his mother wanted to be cremated rather than buried, he queried some of his friends concerning how they wanted their bodies handled after death. Many of them also expressed an interest in cremation but had not given much thought to what should be done with their ashes. In "So You're Cremated ... Now What?" Kalfel provides many commercially available scattering possibilities along with some of his own creative suggestions. Would you like to distribute your earthly remains by being packed into fireworks or have them shot into space? How about placing your ashes inside a time capsule or scattering them around exotic locales in the world? Would you like your final remains turned into a real diamond or cast into a pink flamingo lawn sculpture? Read "So You're Cremated ... Now What? Over One Hundred Creative Ways to Scatter Your Ashes and Other Useful Information" and gain insights about a serious topic written in a lighthearted manner. If you're considering cremation of your final remains, this book presents various options and provides a way to discuss the subject with loved ones.
In the last thirty years, there has been a tremendous growth in the academic inquiry to understand men in their experiences as men. This growth is largely due to growing awareness of the problems that people face in trying to understand what it means to be masculine. This text introduces students to the research, theories, and basic issues in the field of Men and Masculinities, highlighting debates about the definition, origin, and the crisis in masculinity. The author provides a framework for studying the field of masculinities incorporating feminist, social constructionist, and interdisciplinary perspectives. Written in an accessible style, "An Introduction to Masculinities" provides personal anecdotes and contemporary examples to make the theoretical concepts relevant to students' lives. The text also introduces students to leading contributors and experts whose work have informed the field. The author gives the reader a context and structure by which they can critically understand and evaluate information about men and masculinities. The primary objective of this book, PLATINUM ESSAYS IN THE PHILOSOPHY OF APPLIED ECONOMICS OF DEVELOPMENT, is to present in a clear, cognizable and concise format, topics of major significance in modern economic development. This presentation is focused upon Nigeria, Africa and the world as measured, shifting concentric epicenters of economic growth and development. The author, Professor Herbert Onye Orji in this and in his four previous books, has maintained a lucid, creative substance and style of writing. Initially, he states the underlying philosophy of applied economic development in each major essay topic. He then proceeds on a parallel basis with a lucid descriptive and numero-graphic analysis of the theory, employing case studies in some instances. Professor Orji's extensive summary research reports on economic issues of global significance including sections such as George Soros and New Paradigm Shifts in the Money and Capital Markets, Endless Struggles with Boom-Bust Cycles; The Paradox of Sovereign Credit Ratings; Regional Banking and Economic Development in Africa & Asia; Foreign Direct & Portfolio Investments in Africa; Cross Border Investor Protection & Global Capital Markets Integrity; Millennium Development Goals and The Nigerian Capital Market; Building Effective PPPs for Infrastructural Services Development; The USA Securities and Exchange Commission's Power and Influence on the Global Economy; Project Finance for Large Scale Plantation Agriculture, Aircraft and Ocean-going Vessels (Separate research reports & essays); and Harmonization of Regulatory Framework Towards Enhancing the Reliability of Financial Reports, have won accolades and admiration from policy makers, international and multilateral institutions, academia and major research centers in Nigeria, throughout Africa, Asia, Western Europe, Canada and the United States. It is partly as result of this positive resonance that the author decided to produce these interconnected and interrelated topics, issues and reports in a platinum book form. Among other advantages, this book to a large extent serves as an encyclopedia for government and private sector policy makers, academia, multilateral institutions and major research centers. Some topics are current to the time of publication with projections through 2012 and further, while some essays are deliberately dated to reflect the economic and policy environment within a specific time frame. The author has indeed gone beyond the call of duty in search of solutions to the problems of economic development and global resource management.

This book explores the ways spirituality interacts with suicidal depression. This is not a book of answers nor is it a research study; rather, this is a book of questions that looks at suicide with human eyes and spiritual insight. Through the experiences and studies of the two authors, we explore the role that faith plays in the life of a depressed person who is considering suicide, as well as the cultural history and religious beliefs on suicide. There is not a single way to deal with suicide and depression. However, the unexplored areas of spirituality may provide additional insight for understanding and coping with the disease, as well as the emotional effect of such final act. In the end, we hope this book will provide a better understanding of why some suicidal people are able to utilize faith to help them overcome the lowest points of depression, and why some people, no matter the spirituality they have, find death the only solution.

The truth is we are all just a little bit crazy in some areas of our life to a whole lot of crazy. Being miss-directed is one of the things mankind has in common as the various forms of insanity work the same way in every one of us. We've all been programmed to unknowingly believe in a host of lies and it's our belief in the need to uphold the lies that do us in. There are laws that pertain to the universe. These laws cannot be broken without creating diverse consequences. With every action there is an opposite reaction of effect. And where do the decisions we make come from? They generally come from our minds. The question then becomes, "Who's controlling the mind?" If your mind is at work and in agreement with you then you would rightly say you are controlling your mind. But if you occasionally find that your mind is working against you then you should consider "you are not solely in control." Jesus referred to Satan as, "the father of lies." I intend to show how the workings of evil are constructed through the placement of lies and how these lies in combination are at work to disrupt our lives. I will show how the longest and greatest lie is packaged and how the "six major steps" that makes up "a combined package" works powerfully against you. Then I will show how the effects from the lies get all mixed in with the pain you experience and how the end results can be devastating. This book is about our need for revelation and offers the reader an opportunity to begin a personal journey with life as it truly is. This is a lifelong journey in Spirit and truth and it begins with your full recognition of the need for having God working continuously in your life.
Christopher Knight uses the notion of revelation to ask whether scientifically literate people need to be as simplistic in their religion as they are sophisticated in their science. Knight extends the dialogue begun in John Polkinghorne's and Arthur Peacocke's work to explore new possibilities. Their stress on natural processes as the form of divine immanence and the locus of divine action opens the way to Knight's rethinking the psychology of religious experience as a medium of divine revelation. |
